If you get quality parts, you're going to spend some money. If you pay to use a machine shop to properly finish it, that's more money. Any in the end, IF you have a suppressor that brings the noise down, it's going to weigh 2-3x as much as a manufactured can. The only reason to Form 1 a suppressor is if you're a professional machinist AND just want to screw around. Both conditions must apply. Otherwise you are always better off buying a manufactured suppressor.

>>30140808
Yes, you pay money and they do the rest. Literally. If you're in Texas and have a CHL, they will ship it straight to your door when it is approved.

I like my gen1 pretty well. Only complaint is it isn't quite long enough (my ACS-L is a full inch longer at full extension, and yeah I removed that screw in the UBR). I have it on an SPR-style rifle so the weight of the gen1 helps balance it out.

Haven't shot the MBT, but I've shot the SSA, SSA-E, SSF, SD-C, SD-E, HSNM-M, HSNM-DMR, and HSNM-SR.

Of them, the HSNM-M has the lightest pull at a measured 2.9lbs total (it's a 2-stage) but the SD-E had the best feel for me (I don't like 2-stages and do like flat triggers) and a pretty good measured pull of 3.2lbs. The HSNM-DMR actually feels heavier than the SD-C. It's similar to the SSF but has a much shorter reset. The HSNM-SR is very niche, has zero overtravel but a ton of takeup in the first stage.

I know triggers are heavily personal preference, but I'd rank them SD-E, HSNM-M, SD-C, SSA-E, HSNM-DMR, SSA, SSF with the HSNM-SR in its own niche category.

ask those guys in three gun if they would rather use a rifle, pistol and shotgun or run those stages all with an AR and ACOG.

>>
>>30141870
Yeah, shooting quickly and accurately has nothing to do with real life, that's why SF soldiers shoot 3gun in their spare time and why SOF units are issuing variable power scopes instead of fixed x4 optics. Heck, there are SF guys going out and buying their own variable power scopes. You think a guy who gets paid $80k annually would spend $2500 on an optic that will get beat to shit for work, for no reason?

Not to mention that most of the triptards here will never need to fire a shot in anger, and that a red dot would be a lot better in a home defense scenario anyways.

pic related, it's a SF guy's gun with personally owned optic. Note 3 gun fuckery including Arredondo magwell.

You realize the eyebox on a good 1-6x optic is so big you can shoot it on 1x as fast as a red dot, right? And you have just as much optical clarity and actually more magnification than an ACOG on the top end. Seriously anyone who pays variable power money for an ACOG in 2016 is retarded.

BAC is neither exclusive to ACOGs, nor really very useful. If it were, Trijicon wouldn't have made a habit of slapping MRDS on top of ACOGs.
>>
>>30141997
Doesn't make ACOGs good. The reality is that many SOF units are getting away from them so long as budgets allow.

>>30142010
Where did I say I would mess around with the 2x, 3x, etc. powers? You shoot 1x up close, any distant targets (past 200-250, size dependent) just slam that bitch to 6x and you're fine. And if you really think BAC is as effective as a proper 1x you're smoking crack. It's been tried over and over and it just isn't as effective as seeing the target and reticle with the same eye. There's a reason they sell the versions with piggyback MRDS.

Also, does Trijicon's website tell you about phoria?

That does look fun at least. It looks like a fun stage to blow off steam and not take your score too seriously if you don't care about actually winning.

Because typically when being competitive, I try to beat the last score I had. Because the best way to be the best is to improve yourself in my opinion, rather than beat everyone else.

That's a totally illogical argument. You realize that 30 years ago your only options were the ACOG and the Aimpoint, because even the Bushnell holosight had yet to be invented? Of course they were used, nobody knew how to make a variable power rugged enough for military use at that time. That being said, by the late 90s Delta had already started doing T&E on variable power scopes. It's not the 80s anymore, why use ACOG when much better value is to be had?

Army allows personal optics that are .mil approved.

So basically ACOGs, EOTechs, and Aimpoints. Probably Elcans too.

Really the only reason to do this is if your unit has fucked you sideways without an optic, or they give you an optic that does not suit your role.

I actually don't. To be honest, if all the competitive shooters thought ACOGs were the heat, and the SF guys thought variable power scopes were best, I would side with the top competitors every single day of the week. When the vast majority of both fields like variable power scopes and the few people who like ACOGs are tripfags, I think it's an open-and-shut case.

>>30142254
That's just not true in every unit, depends on your leadership to decide. Ragnars are notoriously oppressive about following unit SOPs in gear setup, as well. If you are a cherry batt boy and you show up with a personal optic they will laugh you out and your TL will tell you what the fuck to draw from the armory and put on your gun.

That's true. Aside from stickler units though, if you have a good relationship with your leadership and have an approved optic, all you have to do is ask and they will probably get the go ahead. I know a few people who bought ACOGs for Afghanistan because they were getting issued M68s.

Wear a ducking belt.

My grandfather got his leg stuck and mangled in a machine when he was younger.
Used his belt to tie his leg off and step from bleeding out.

One of my wifes coworkers was also hot by a vehicle while waiting sitting on a metal bench waiting for a bus. Chopped her leg off, a bystander took his belt off and similarly used it to stop the bleeding.

Yup, those awful moving parts are so terrible, why even shoot autoloading firearms. Let's go back to the muzzleloader days. You realize that the only additional moving parts a variable scope has are the ones for the actual variable power, right? AKA the parts that are under no real stress 99% of the time.

The Elcan SpectreDR and VCOG have been staple optics since at least 2006. The Millett 1-4x saw limited use from 2001-2004, though they were purchased at the unit level. The Leupold Mk8 1-8x is now widely issued and in general SOF inventory, complete with NSN. S&B Short Dots were what the Mk8 replaced, in service from ~1995-2010ish.
>>
>>30142705
I wasn't really speaking to the elcan. Although I'm not sure why. I was talking about the ol walk it in variable. I would really like it if elcan would lower their goddamn prices
>>
>>30142717
I personally don't like the Elcan. Too bulky, too heavy, nowhere close to a true 1x, the whole "any little thing in the exposed adjustment carriage fucks zero" thing. I mean, I certainly wouldn't turn down a <$500 one in good shape, but that's pretty much the limit of what I'd pay for one.
>ACOG has better glass anyway
My unit got issued a whopping total of 4 of them (they probably ran out of ACOGs during the transition from the CompM2 to the CompM4+ACOG) and I was horribly disappointed in the glass quality. Everything was washed out and the edge distortion was fucking Barska-tier bad. And that was before I knew they were a $2500+ optic.

A Pupper is a puppet even when not a pupper.

Back on my parents farm, we had Barn cats that out operater'd both me and my old man on a daily basis, killed rabbits, skunks, raccoons, hell, even had a cat kill one of the neighbors dashound pups And drag it across the lawn, and across a hayfield to under our porch.

#teambattlecat

My forest station in Yellowstone has a bobcat that frequently will have her kits near the building during the summer. Usually we hear them and sometimes see them out playing near the buildings and if a tourist makes their way out to the building we start yelling at them to get the fuck back.
>>
>>30142744
That's p. cool. I want one now.

Old range that I used to go to had a shoot house stage for their 3gun/2gun/combat carbine matches, and some of the doors would have target stands on screen door springs mounted to the wall behind them.
>open door
>target stand to the face
Bloodied more than one person's nose when they didn't react well/fast enough.

>>30142751
Currently? Of the ones I own it's a tie between my Strike Eagle and my Leupold Mk4 1.5-5x.
>Leupold is smaller and lighter, has slightly better glass
>SE does significantly better in low light (30mm vs 1" tube, 24mm vs. 20mm objective) and is probably more durable due to 30mm tube.
>SE has the better reticle, plus daylight-bright illumination (mk4 is unlit)

Of the ones I wish I could afford but have some experience with, the Mk8 1.1-8x or the March 1-10x SFP.

For what I had/wished I had on deployment, for the role I was in and where I was deployed, I was pretty happy with my CompM2 and later my CompM4. I didn't need a magnified optic and kinda had to throw a fit to keep my CompM4, since I had one of the highest qual scores in the battalion and they wanted to give me an ACOG.
