Love Kreig looks, lore, and model quality. They might be expensive. But they'll last and can take a drop off the table top, no problem.
But I looked up other forces and fell in love with Armageddon Steel Legion. At least steel legion are still made out of pewter.
fav weapon=Flamer. in the 41 millennium, flame throwers are still highly effective.

The good old Kantrael pattern lasgun. I love the look, like a blocky, mass-produced grimdark version of the M41 Pulse Rifle from Aliens.

The logistical advantages of the humble lasgun have kept them in service for millennia. I will always believe that the only reason they seem so weak is because 40k is a small-scale tactical game where ammunition is not a factor. At least in earlier fluff those fat bolter mags only held 20 bolts; they aren't shown carrying many spares. The Spess Mareens would need a fantastically efficient resupply system at all times to operate as depicted.

Meanwhile, I can shake my lasgun mag in the sun and keep on shooting.

>Trained to be soldiers basically since the day they are born, constantly being hammered with knowledge that their ancestors committed a sin and the only way to atone is to die in service to the Emperor
>This creates unwavering, nearly inhuman soldiers that will gladly go into absolutely any battle without even a single hint of fear over death
>They're so fucking vicious that Commissars are needed, not to prevent desertion like with most units, but to reign them in when they're fighting too hard

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Story:Praise_the_Emperor_(and_Pass_the_Ammunition)

begginnign of the story is a planetary defense soldier camping out on a statue weeks into a chaos take over. Everyday she charges her lasgun mags with the sun and just fires at the hordes of zombies.

Lasgun is only weak compared to the extremes of the 40k universe. I read some where Its supposed to do more damage than an 7.62 but with no loss of velocity or drop. As a tool for endless war I love it.

Wasn't there that book where they fought the necrons where it details they don't have names they have numbers and are just thrown against the enemy?

Kinda conflicts with the ultramarines omnibus where they're just nice but rather hardcore joes out fighting for the imperium.
>>
>>29908088
Fluff is kinda weird and you should take all of it with a grain of salt.
Works like Dead Men Walking (the necron one) portray them as basically walking, talking rifles while other works make them very grim soldiers who are still ultimately human

I run a special snowflake regiment that's basically the ASL mixed with the Tallarn Desert Raiders, but if I were forced to use a regular regiment it'd be the Steel Legion.

I remember reading that against unarmored targets, a lasgun could burn off limbs and disintegrate torsos. Unfortunately every kid on earth plays SM, so it's 3+ saves and mile-thick armor all day erryday.

>>29908115
I like the interpretation that all fluff is technically true-to-universe - somewhere, and from some perspective. What you're reading might be propaganda, old data, true of one legion/regiment/chapter but not another, legend, misunderstanding, anything. Sort of like how lasguns used to look like poncy eldar weapons until they got updated to cooler and later designs, and the universe self-corrected by making the old ribbed-pipe types the "Ryza pattern lasgun". See, it was never wrong. It was just never *comprehensive*.

I like to think that the whole 40k universe is being told being told by a really old imperial guardsman. He can't remember everything, and what he does remember is quite foggy. Makes all the grimdark sort of make sense.

Dead men portrays them as suicidally depressed.

It does it very, very fucking well.

Hell, even the miner turned PDF turned faux-krieger who marches to his doom at then end clearly falls down a hole into a resigned, suicidal depression.

And no, "suicidal" doesn't mean "trying to kill yourself. It's simply indicative of a lack of will to live-and kriegers have no interest in living at all. They also show all the hallmarks of severely depressed individuals, right down to the total emotional shutdown in favor of focusing solely on concrete, here-and-now things that serves as a distraction.

Read the book, then look up studies on the severely depressed.

I've been there myself, and actually like to read about it. It actually helped me enjoy the book a lot more-I don't know if it was the authors intent, but they capture a side of depression, guilt, and self hate that most people can't grasp at all.

Fuck the "huur they're so badass" shit. They're not. They're thoroughly broken. However, even a broken knife can be made to be useful.
>>
>>29908654
I roleplay one. It's less a random stream of numbers and more their I.D ended with the name of some poor sap that got killed during The Purge. To use a canon name, they'd be like 769355-637566-Keled.

It;s more a mixture of depression and some aspects of Borderline Personality Disorder. They're fucked up in the head before they get off Krieg, and who knows what kind of quirks they develop in the trenches. Not to mention most of your standard troopers come off Krieg at 14 able to kick the ass of most other Guardsmen.
>>
>>29909476
Tha's different from what i've learned, Kreigers are shown to have no names, only using their guardsmen id as the only sort of name. Even fucking officers only get "names" like lieutenant alpha or major beta to tell whose in command of what unit.

Also, DKoK have the best mounts, ain't nobody gonna fuck with your cyborg roided out horse.

There is no planet anon, there is a guardsman formed out of huardsmen which themselves are formed out of guardsmen.
The guardsmen on that planet walk on guardsmen, breath guardsmen and when they go take a dump they go release some guardsmen from between their guardsmen.

That planet does not orbit around its star, it is on a patrol around it.

>power armour does away with 11-16,6
>more or less enough to kill off between half and an entire tactical squad in one turn

And the 50 conscripts who would land only 50 of their 150 shots, and cause only 16,6 wound of which a third would actually kill a space marines, just more or less earned half their points in one turn of shooting, because 50 of these fuckers will cost you 150 points opposed to 10 marines at 140 points. Conversely, those 10 marines will only kill 8,8 cronscripts of guardsmen on average with their 10 bolters. If you're feeling frisky, jam or a priest or commissar into the mess and they'll never run away.

Steel legion is great; they're just average guys defending their home planet, they have cool uniforms like krieg, and their niche is mechanized warfare.
>>

>>
>>29910519
Not to mention any marine transport that is in risk of being shot by the enemy will most likely use it's smoke launchers, further reducing the chances of it being killed.
And the problem is two-fold. Firstly, the marines will at that point be at least 24” of your troops, which is really 18“ because of the 6" move.
Also, you're math is wrong. First rank firs second rank fire makes it so that each lasgun fires 1 extra shot. That means that, unless the entire blob is in rapid fire range, which is a whole different ball game, a unit of 50 conscripts will fire 100 shots, 33.33 of which will hit, 11.11 of which will wound, and 3.704 of which will kill a marine.
If you're getting 150 shots, that means the marines are garunteed to be in charge range, at which point it's game over man, game over.
The second part of the problem is that all that fire is wasted on tactical marines, allowing the real heavy hitters to come in and wipe you out.

Dead Men Walking was such a good read, shows how fucked the Kriegers really are.

IIRC, the short story has all the weaker krieg trainees face the graduates in live combat?
>>
>>29908088
Kriegers also promote based on age and how long you have remained alive, I remember a short story of a battle hardened Inquisitor and a lot of high ranking Officers from other Regiments freaking out when the Krieger Colonel was ordered to remove his mask, he was barely out of his teens.
>>
>>29910324
The 'Major Alpha' thing is more of a title. The name scheme is directly from IA's Vraks series.
In Dead Men Walking, they directly refer to one man picking up the 'name' Major Alpha after the previous holder had died. They have I.D and a name chosen from a loyalist who died during the Civil War, both for ease of reference and to remind the men what they're dying for.

Yeah, they have a sort of similar aesthetic with the masks and tubing but they're radically different in background, doctrine and ethos.

The Armageddon Steel Legion are mechanised infantry and come from a civilised, well-developed Hive World but tempered by their planet's industrially-wrecked ecosystem they're not soft or untried either. With their planet enduring two of the most galactically notorious wars of the past century they're confident, suffused with elan, and determined to prove themselves as worthy alongside the Imperium-renowned heroes and Imperium-reviled villains who've stood on their soil.

The Death Korps of Krieg are footslogger infantry for unsophisticated wars of bitter attrition. Their planet is also an ecological ruin but not by indusutrial development creating glorious machines for the Imperium's might but by a self-inflicted nuclear holocaust to stop vile rebellion for the Imperium's destruction. The planetary culture inscribes ancestral shame and original, unpardonable sin from birth and their commitment is born from a thoroughly conditioned self-loathing so intense that the only reason Kriegers don't commit mass-suicide is that they feel a quick death would be too good for themselves.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN8geCTlZOo

When will we get our infinite war?
>>
>>29912252

Problem is they share their shtick with the Praetorians

And I honestly have to go with the pith helmets.
>>
>>29909476
>>29910324

Both could be true. People often forget that the Imperium's a big place and it's been around for a long, long time. High Command could have determined that a certain naming convention promoted efficiency and then revised their doctrine at a later date.

Personally I prefer >>29909476 though, taking on the name of someone who died in Krieg's first civil war just keeps hammering home their fundamental shame. Kriegers are not war-bots, they're penitential flagellants. They follow their orders not just because they're 10 Print 20 Goto 10 orders but because they're the means by which they atone for their hateful selves.
>>
>>29914847

Nigga everyone's too poor to own Kriegers

Though I wouldn't be surprised if some neckbeard has a full regiment painted up somewhere that he salutes every day when he gets up.
>>
>>29905437
I only like warhammer threads that are triggered by elf-posting.
>>
>>29915400

Eh, desu the Praetorians were just a limited-edition novelty regiment anyway. They're literally just historical wargaming minatures with lasguns instead of rifles.
>>
>>29915409

It sounds like being a cuck to excuse GW's high prices, but in fairness to them it helps to remember that they sell a miniatures hobby as much as if not more than a wargame. Units are expensive, but you're not meant to bash an entire unit together in an afternoon you're meant to gradually assemble it piece by painted piece.

Dude, they regularly kill the COMMISARS for cowardice. They are so goddamn loyal and hardcore that there has NEVER been any desertions or traitors from Kriegsmen. THEY ARE MORE LOYAL THAN THE SPACE MARINES, WHO ARE COMMONLY KNOWN AS "THE EMPEROR'S ANGELS!"
>>

It is on the level of stubber aka assault rifle. But you can charge lasgun from sun or firepit. Ideal for conscripts.

Never understood the logic behind issuing a lasgun in a (modern doctrine) sniper capacity. Every time you take a shot it's not just loud, there's a literal laser show showing exactly where the shot came from.

The "caseless" thing isn't at all necessary. Bolters are supposed to be caseless but there are hundreds if not thousands of pieces of official artwork showing them spraying brass everywhere. Even the autogun diagrams on the Lexicanum page show clear extractor ports."Caselessness" was really just something dropped in there by writers who didn't really understand guns to sound futuristic.

Let me clarify. An autoweapon is always a type of stubber, but a stubber is not always a type of autoweapon. Some people use them interchangeably, but there is a noticeable difference lorewise that doesn't stretch out too noticeably into crunch.

It's a case of lesser known lore being unused. That being said, autoweapons are SUPPOSED to be caseless. Is that always going to be the case? No. That's how 40k's lore goes.

it seems like something like a AN94 with it's slavG11 2shot recoilless burst would be incredibly useful in the grimdark future of the year 40,000. Orkz and Tau fukkin shits never signed the Hague convention,

which would be more effective? HESH or HEAT style smallarms ammunition? HESH seems extremely realizable in smallarm ammo. it's pretty much lobbing a chunk of C4 onto a TAUs faggy robot suit letting the spalling tear the Xeno a new asshole. minimization of HEAT, short of an STC to shit out the stuff, seems incredibly labor intensive, but a .30cal projectile going through 2/3" to 2" of armor is nothing to sneeze at.

Yeah, why not ram when you can, huh? Why am I surprised, I don't know.

I'm not sure 'warping out' in a damaged ship is a good idea though. If the Geller Field goes down in the Warp....than I guess they just escaped from getting blown up in realspace to be demon chow in the Warp.
>>
>>29922495
Considering the rites and rituals required to send a ship into the warp, I don't think the techpreists would warp out unless they were pretty sure it was safe or would rather take almost certain death over certain death.

>would rather take almost certain death over certain death.

If you're looking for some reading, there are a lot of options, I recommend starting with the Horus Heresy books and branching out from there.

Humanity has lost so much knowledge about how things work that many things are magic and superstition to them, their rituals are the same as our drills and "pissing off the machine spirit" is just another way of saying you fucked up in maintenance or loading of the weapon and now it has jammed on you.
>>
>>29922597
It's portrayed as being on the verge of it though, isn't it? With the knowledge for building most of the advanced ships, armor, and Titans being lost?
>>
>>29922597
No, I meant, when I pick up an AK47 which is pretty much the Lasgun is in the 40k and fire it, I know it will work cz of it's mechanics. But I heard that even common guardsmand 'pray' to their Lasgun's Machine Spirit to make it work properly, instead of taking it apart and making sure everything functions as it should...

I guess Bolt guns are pretty much just like any other hand held weapons we field today, so they don't 'require' Machine Spirits to work...or do they?

The knowledge of how to build the most exotic and advanced weapons in the imperium, while a bad omen, isn't reflective of the entire mechanicus failing at their job for some reason. Technically the golden throne is on the verge of dying, tyranids are on the verge of overwhelming the galaxy, humanity is on the verge of spontaneously combusting etc.

>>29922624
See >>29922602
Nobody can say "hey, all mechanicus scriptures make perfect sense and work" or "all mechanicus scriptures are crazy mumbo jumbo" when you're talking about a massively convoluted techno-cult that spans an entire galaxy and is entrusted with the maintenance and production of pretty much every mechanical and technological product. There's no absolutes.

I've always thought it's not so much the AI unless it's something that requires it like a tank or Titan. The concept is just drilled into people's heads so that all machinery has a spirit, even if there is no actual AI in it.
>>
>>29922739
>machine spirits are pseudo AI
the "machine spirit" is a lot of things. Technically, is a giant sleeping god under the surface of mars which thinks it's every machine in the universe, though it's also a made up concept to explain why things don't function when you don't maintain them right, but it's also the literal brains in missiles and basic cogitator's operating systems.

No absolutes, as I have already said.

Well since the age of strife AI got banned cause it wanted to end humanity. It's a very rudimentary intelligence. It's the year 40000. Part ram, part heavy armor - the standard IN doctrine for fleet battles is a massed charge, with a torpedo volley to break open the enemy formation, then flying straight through that gap while engaging with both broadsides simultaneously at close range. So they put a heavily armroed prow on their capitals to ensure that that can weather the fire they're going to take on the way in.

Ending title, part one:

The screen snapped to black in harmony with the 8th consecutive high decibel deepdrum over the rising orchestral whine.

A brief off pattern silence falls upon whoever still remains within the viewing vicinity.

They take this opportunity wipe away an ammassing mixture of tears, sweat, brain fluid, and blood that has been leaking from their eyeholes since the first visions of an intergallactic manmade holocaust befell the cutest little ewok-like civilization you've ever fucking seen.

Fuck them tho, their Rivendell-esque constructions made waste of the strategic promise embedded within the fertility of the newly conquered planet.

Its was a massacre that the audience hated. Hate-ED.

But now, frothing at the mouth in utter desperation to go home and literally skin their own pets for the heresy of their lazy occupation and unconcerned disservice to the emperor, the ninth beat booms.

With it, in standard nofrills white bold lettering against the spaceblack screen, a warning appears:

Welcome to 40k

Earth becomes a global playscape of ultrabrutality between those few who made it to the warning screen and everybody else, so many, so utterly dumbfounded at having absolutely no fucking clue whats going on.

Parts 2 and 3 are never made... there is no time to waste after all.

They really nailed what I envision the feeling of being a space marine is like. Just, fucking massive, heavy, brutal, unstoppable, and always completely outnumbered and shouldering the responsibility of saving the entire planet every goddamn time.

It's also deliciously violent

The Dawn of War series is a gold standard. DoW1 with expansions and the apocalypse mod is what I would suggest. Dow2 is more like a small scale skirmish game, a few heroes and 5 or 6 squads, maybe one tank. Basically macro scale vs micro scale. They're made by the same team that did Company of Heroes. (shout out to Blitzkrieg mod for CoH1 if you've never played it it's amazing.

Dow1 is like . . . massive . . . hundreds of units, platoons of tanks, massive and chaotic.

Though they made famous of late by the frenzied cultists of the Red Redemption, Eviscerators have in fact been found in armories across the galaxy for millennia. Much occasionally Eviscerators are fitted with a small flame-thrower called an Exterminator to aid in combat and add yet more to their mortifying reputation, as there is little one can do to avoid such a thing. The Eviscerator is most commonly found in the Imperium, among whose population it has come to symbolize religious wrath.

Flexibility and willingness to adapt to their situation represents the core of the Raptors’ combat doctrine. As they prepare to engage their opponents, these Space Marines are always careful to identify all of their assets and utilise them to the fullest means possible. These often include assets that are not identified within the constraints of the Codex Astartes. Even when operating well within the strictures of that tome, these Battle-Brothers may choose to take measures that others might consider dishonourable. For members of the Raptors Chapter, the only important standard is success. Honour and glory are noble notions, but a clear victory is worth far more than any amount of either. Most of the distinctive combat tactics that the Raptors employ are tied into this notion.

>Who is the most /k/ and why is it the /k/rieg?

The thing about machine spirits is that GW is a bit vague on the terminology. There's the uppercase 'Machine Spirit' which is a semi-biological AI that assists with the operation of particularly complex technology, and then there is the lowercase 'machine spirit' which AdMech theology states is the transcendent soul that inhabits a piece of technology. When a Guardsman invokes the machine spirit of his las gun he's usually referring to the latter, even Imps aren't so technologically illiterate that they need a computer to pull a trigger for them.

I really never understood why people resent e Adeptus Mechanicus's religion so much and are hellbent on belittling it at every turn. 40k is a universe with genetically-engineered warrior monks, cathedrals in space, world-bending psychic powers and literal hell dimensions populated by actual devils, Why can that all be accepted but needing to appease capricious gremlins to make technology efficient is beyond belief?

Yes and no. We're talking about a setting where deamons can manifest and rape your soul.
They're program, but they're also so much more. There have been Land Raiders that have acted independent of orders, and there was a squad of Salamanders turned to goo into their plate by Dark Eldar, and the power armor drilled through the side of their fortress and massacred the Eldar lords.
Machine Spirits are fragments of code, through one way or another, that have managed some semblance of sapience. They're not quite A.I, but they're not quite programs. This is why you supplicate to the Machine Spirit, because you never know if the Baneblade is a gnarly cunt, or your lasgun might ND into someone's forehead while you're moving it, despite the safety or some shit.

It's a ref to when rams were the primary weapon system of Naval warfare. 40k is full of stuff like this.

It isn't about throwing away lives. It's about doing what they perceive as effective, and Imperial warships - like the triremes and such of old - are designed to be able to handle the stresses of such an impact. I mean, that's evident because of the armored prow.

Black Templar want to eat that overwatch. A 15 man crusader squad losing two men but gaining rage is SMASH AND FUCK levels of attacks. Throw in the Emp's Champ or Grimaldus and you get a monster mash of AP2 attacks or rerolls to hit with like 50 WS4 S4 attacks and a handful of AP4 S6 attacks mixed in depending on how the squad is armed.

Also the new formations that let you assault from deepstrike with Assault marines and Vanguard Vets with a handful of other special supporting bonuses pretty much make tying up entire armies doable now. What a time to be one of the Emperor's Angels of Death.

Lasers don't work that way. Despite their depiction in games and movies, a laser does not leave a glowing trail in the air. It's more like a really bright laser pointer. No sound or flash from the weapon, no light show, just a really bright little dot on the target.

Necrons were a race of really edgy idiots that got shit on by clouds of space dust that ate radiation from their sun.

Of course the space dust was pissed when the Necrons enslaved them in bodies of living metal.

Necrons then become the Necrotyr (what you know now as Necrons) when their souls were imprisoned in the living metal bodies.

They serve Necron Dynasties ran by Overlords AKA Space Robot Pharaohs.

Hes over-simplyfying to sound cute.

Basically there was this race, thier sun poured out shitstorms of radiation so their life expectancies were like, 25, or 30.

Obviously they became culturally obsessed with the idea of longer lives, even mortality.

Turns out some big alien beings based on energy instead of matter were the reason the sun was fucked up (the energy beings were eating the suns energy making it age faster)

The necrontyr were like "wtf bruh"
Energy beings were like "oh, were sorry, how about you build us some of those cool matter based bodies you all have and we will teach you how to be immortal."

Necrontyr built the bodies, the energy beings moved into them, then they were llke
"So heres what ya gotta do, gotta download all your minds into robot bodies"

Obviously the energy beings were evil, so they lobotomized most of the minds going into the crazy self repairing nanotech robot bodies, they left behind a few of the leaders as sentient but mind controlled.

The energy beings thought this lying/death/crazy bullshit was pretty entertaining compared to just floating around deep space etherically for millinia and decided to use thier new robot army to wipe out a bunch of other species.

Mostly right, but you got some things messed up.
The Necrontyre were basically a race of short lived, depressed, emo, entitled middle-aged people. They looked upon the Old Ones' power and the Eldar's long lives, became impossibly pissed and jealous, and decided to end all life in the galaxy. But, since they basically lived in the Empire of Atomicbombia, they couldn't do shit against either the Eldar or Old Ones. So, they started looking for WMDs to use, and in the process, discovered the celestial fart gas that was eating their sun's energy. So, they built robot bodies out of living metal, and lured the dormer conciencies of the fart gas into the bodies with techno magic. Then, these being who have known only hunger since before the Old Ones existed, we're suddenly given nearly invincible bodies and hyper-intelligent robot minds, we're worshipped as the C'tan, gods, by the Necrontyre. Then, the C'tan tricked the Necrontyre, lobotomised them as they were transferred to robot bodies, and devoured their souls as they were moved. The C'tan then began a genocidal war against the galaxy because they discovered that souls taste better than solar energy. Basically, the Necrontyre were retarded, salty assholes, who were turned into brain dead terminators by the gods they had created, before started the single largest war the galaxy had ever, and will ever, experience, and are one of the ones who are directly responsible for fucking up the cesspit that is the galaxy.

Same goes for dropping mellee weapons to snap a few shots from your pistol. And that has the added bonus because they can't be yanked from your hands.

A short story, Lord of the Red Sands, has loyalist World Eaters throwing themselves at Angron's chainaxes in such a way they'd get yanked away while others would cut the chains securing them, because that was the only way of even hoping to stop Angron. By disarming him and then they'd all dogpile on top. Of course they all fail, but Angron and a dying Legionarre have a quick chat why Angron rebeled. It's a nice read

Thats completely true though. Lasguns punch clean through concrete walls and completely tear off limbs or make neat, cauterized almost fist sized holes. They'd be complete overkill in reality.
But in 40k, where the majority of enemies are wearing armor made from the most advanced materials availaible with very few weak points, can soldier through absurd wounds with ease AND move with superhuman speed, they do seem weak.

My statement on their weakness is being somewhat misconstrued. Shot for shot, they absolutely are. Compared to everything from bolters to reaper launchers on up, and being employed against silly amounts of immovable-force armor, yes - lasguns are absolutely weak.

But I'm specifically not talking about shot-for-shot, I'm referring to the strategic and logistical triumph that is the greatest weapon in the galaxy.

Need to arm several trillion men? Done. Already got your hands full arranging an administrative nightmare on a galactic scale? Have a universal ammunition type that can be replenished *right in-theater*, nearly without limit. Want to entrench your men in harm's way? You only need to drop them food and ammo for heavier gun emplacements. Worried about your supply lines getting decimated by sneaky gits of all stripes? You have some leeway in opening those lines back up, because the boys can keep on shooting until you get it back up and running.

Have YOU managed to cut off your enemies' supply lines? Wait until the popping sounds subside, then move in and kill 'em all.

Then, consider that much of the guard operational theater is NOT against superhuman threats. We only play and read about those most because they're the most interesting. Rogue human planets, lesser alien species referenced in the fluff, little cultist enclaves. Now take all those advantages and imagine how overwhelming they are against the little shit the guard stomps every day.

The lasgun is the greatest weapon of war ever devised and I, for one, will be proud to fall atop mine when I die alongside fifty thousand other guardsmen next week.

Scions are great, I mean for almost all intents and purposes they're 100% human, they don't even have power armour, yet they manage to be top-tier troops.

Sisters are also pretty cool, I like the "burn everything with blessed napalm" approach.

No. Death Korps takes its inspiration from WW1/WW2 German armed forces.

Steel Legion is British/American. The only German thing they have is a Fallschirmjager-esque helmet.

Scions are pretty cool. Definitely a welcomed Storm Trooper revamp in my opinion.

Plus they get a space MRAP.

don't the sisters only exist because a dude interpreted "no man in this order shall bear arms" as an all-female unit is a-ok

I still think the Sisters of Battle are the left overs of the Sisters of Silence.

Nah, the origins of the Sisters of Bastle are pretty explicit and specific in the Age of Apostasy fluff. Their precursors were Goge Vandire's "Brides of the Emperor" private army - they mutinied and killed him at the end of the Age. When the Ecclesiarchy was being reformed in the aftermath they did the bit of legal chicanery of 'no men under arms' that you mention and had WOmen under arms instead. The Brides became the Daughters of the Emperor and then the Adepta Sororitas we know today.

Sisters of Silence were a completely different unit from millennia previously, pre-Heresy oyster hunters. If anyone's descended from them they've been long dispersed into the League of Blackships and Inquisition.

The greatest author that the Black Livrary has ever published is Matthew Farrer. Out of the whole stable he's really the only one who truly, honestly, GETS 40k in its grandeur and its spirituality too. The Enforcer trilogy aren't just the best books BL has put out, they're literature in their own right. It's criminal that he hasn't done more 40k stuff. Dan Abnett can spin you a ripping yarn, sure, but Matthew Farrer makes you think. Yes, even in a setting of space knights hitting demons with chainsaw swords.
