No I get that. I would just maybe like to have an easily concealable chest rig or something. With my extra pouches and hydration carrier my Gladiator is not easily concealable. It would be nice to carry extra mags in something other than my jeans pockets. I won't be wearing camo or tac pants so I won't have cargo pockets available.

i feel that this brings up a good point.
i live in San Francisco and there is a huge trend to wear tech clothing.
it's not unusual to see people wearing North Face/Patagonia/whatever jackets or vests, cargo pants, hiking boots.
this clothing is pretty practical in an urban setting like SF where a lot of people use public transportation and there are many micro climates that you might travel through daily depending on what part of the city you live in and where your destination is.
of course, there are subtleties that might set you apart such as brands that you choose etc...

But from what I've seen a good majority tend to lower profile hiking boots.

generally "greyman" involves having more capability than an everyman while not looking any different

but mall ninja pants won't work. if you need or want extra pockets, they should be sewn in to a pair of normal pants in a manner that doesn't make them visible

>>29857617
boots are good for two things: military parade and punk shows. if you're not doing either then low cut shoes generally do a better job because they're lighter. shiny black boots look excellent, but aren't super practical. what exactly are you doing that requires your shoe to extend up your leg?

Boots are good for more than two things friendo. Off the top of my head:

>any kind of manual labor
>ankle support when carrying weight
>overall durability
>keeping feet dry in wet terrain

If you were right and boots had no real utility people wouldn't wear and use them.

Are they necessary for most people's everyday use? No.

But a good pair of well-fitted, well-built boots with stitchdown soles will last a lifetime.

Yes, you can cover more ground faster in lighter shoes (depending on conditions).

Context is everything. Always.

>>
>>29860362
True, but I'd say it depends on what you're doing

Greyman is such a broad concept with a lot of wiggle room, but the general rule of thumb is to be boringly average, that, taken along it's logical path, goes further than just tats, bizarre hair-dos, and the clothes one wears.

But if you're not a spook or even in a red team, actively making sure your body is average to play greyman is pretty fucking autistic I grant you.

>>29860411

that's why you have a semi-auto rifle with you, and if they get within 75 yards, shoot a couple. Forget this gray man shit, just wear what you want and train with what you would wear. If you're going lightly armed to a riot or mob rule situation where you're not "one of them", just don't do it. Noone's paying you to infiltrate any groups and bring them down. Just stay alive by not getting yourself into shitty situations.

Taking a look at this thread I think more than a few people are confusing what gray man is in fiction with what it is in reality.

In the real world if OP walks past you on the street carrying a messenger bag and a casual demeanor you are not going to notice him. Real people do not see a man wearing hiking pants and jump to the conclusion he's wearing body armor, a gun, and IFAK. That's a logical leap that does not occur in reality.

Gray man is not about looking like you're a hobo with no supplies in some imaginary SHTF situation. Gray man is not about looking like you have no dark zone loot. Those imaginary situations are the gray man concept utilized in fiction.

What's "gray man" depends on your situation and your needs. For a guy who is doing executive protection "gray man" means rolling in an soft-skin sedan and wearing a shirt over his plate carrier. You can get away with a surprisingly bulky rig if you're sitting in a car and not having to walk around. It doesn't necessarily mean being a super ninja that nobody will remember or being a master of disguise.

Sorry, no. There aren't really that many people taking long distance camo comparison pics. That said if you look at the coloration you can kind of see it. It's just green, sand, and greenish brown mixed together, with very little contrasting elements and with a gradual transition from color to color. What happens is at distance your eyes can't resolve every little difference in color so your brain just kind of fills in an approximation, and the lack of contrast on the ATACS camo patterns means you just fill in "kinda green" or "kinda tan"

Yeah using concealment works but you can do that with any camo. Sometimes you're going to be moving and not know the exact position of enemies at distance. Or you're going to be doing a break contact battle drill and you're going to be exposed as you do your bounds. Better camo is still better, tactics notwithstanding.

>>29863211
>ATACS works well beyond an entirely arbitrary distance, but I don't have any evidence or real support to say why.
Some people would say wearing a fucking Kermit the Frog suit is effective at certain distances. But is it a better or worse camouflage than its competitors? Camo "working well" is relative.

>atacs is better in green environments
>atacs

You do realize ATACS is just a brand name now? Sort of like Multicam? Or did you really mean to imply that the original base pattern ATACS is better than Multicam transitional in wodland environments? Because that's wrong, you stupid nigger.

>mfw first official atacs marketing was all badly photoshopped (pic related)
>was literally a Freedom Group marketing gimmick
>couldn't even pass first phase down select in latest field trials

ATACS is literally a meme.

Why are there so many shades of multicam? Some looks more green and some is very light. I want to get set up with some multicam gear as I live inna desert but plan on bugging out up north where there's forests. I dont want to end up with mismatched shit.

Also do I have to wear an army style shirt, they seem very thick and it's hot as shit here. I can't find any polyester options for a top.
>>
>>29864344
lots of different dyes and fabric combinations have been used to make multicam pattern. they'll all look different. just buy surplus ocp/scorpion and you won't have a problem with mismatched clothes

those shirts are fine, not any hotter than a dress shirt. NYCO > poly

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

I have a baofeng UV5R5. Decent starter or backup radio. Problem with them is programming them without a computer is kinda a pain. They also aren't that durable and are susceptible to water. What annoys me about them is that you can't lock certain control groups, so you could accidentally transmit when you shouldn't.

For my primary, I use a Yaesu ft-260. Much easier to program and it is fairly waterproof and durable. They do cost 5x as much but are worth it IMO. You do have to do a very simple mod to allow for a wider range of TX frequencies. The water resistance and the ability to lock just the transmit keys is what sold me on it. I can also put a scrambler in it to maintain a casual level of secrecy, but it seems that is illegal without certain licenses.

Transmission power doesn't always mean better range due to topology and atmospheric conditions, it just gives you better signal strength. If you are on flat ground a higher TX power will allow for greater range, but you are not going to communicate over the horizon all that well without an antenna that is higher up. A roll up antenna is a nice thing to have because you can hang it high or just throw it up in a tree or whatever to extend range. You do need a HAM license to use TX power over 1w IIRC.

The baofeng are a great intro to radios, but only because they are cheap and compatible with a lot of accessories.

From what I remember, the higher wattage models don't really give better results, but that may have changed since I was looking around. There is a nauseating amount of baofengs with slight changes and variations.

From milsurp thread, why do you guys in these threads always think multicam and atacs are the only choices?

Do none of you guys use foreign camos? I'm not talking about basic stuff flecktarn or portuguese lizard, but rather modern digital stuff, or just foreign stuff in general.

If you guys are willing to spend $500+ on a cyre precision shirt in multicam or scorpion, you might as well spend that money on a whole set (uniform, rain gear, ECWCS equivalent, ruck, etc.) of another nation's gear. ESTPAT and CADPAT work very well in heavily vegitated environments, and lots of middle eastern countries have gotten their arid and desert patterns just about perfect.

Open up your options guys, and with the money you saved from by considering all of them, you can buy the next upcoming tacti-cool accessory for your ar platform.

>inb4 I'm going to bring up an ineffective pattern from a country and claim that because they used it in the past it negates any farther progress they've made.

Sure.
