It would need a bullet guide and then you could.
>>
>>29619717
Great if you can get it inspected if buying used or check it at the stop if buying new. Its your best bet for a new AK, but you have to do your homework and know what to look for.
>>
>>29619725
>>29619707
What about the 5.45 VEPRs? I would imagine the higher quality longer barrel would benifit the 5.45 more for hunting than the 7.62 would.

>>

its very easy to fuck up building an AK, especially a cheap one. You need to look for canted (unalligned) sights, proper rivets, and overall straightness. Newer WASRs have had less problems but if its used, youre gonna have to inspect it thoroughly.

Me and my forever DM have got a homebrew fairly /k/ setting we've been planning on running.

Basically it's East Germany (without really calling it East Germany) in the mid 60s and the players are cops/detectives/military officers all thrown under one organization (kinda KGBish without calling it the KGB) and are investigating a series of gruesome murders throughout the the dim and dreary not-East German city. Kind of a mix of Dark Heresy gameplay with almost a nWoD feel without it being supernatural, just dark and depressing (basically just like Eastern Europe under the USSR)

We plan on having be less shooty and actiony and more mystery, role playing-y and problem solving-y, but it'll have it's share of intense firefights.

The red sealer is actually more thorough on the WPA. The excess on the 7n6 probably fell off. In practice this probably simply means more red chips to clean out of the receivers of my 5.45 AKs. And I guess the primer is sealed from moisture maybe a little better in comparison.

Seems like quality stuff. Might do a biopsy of one of the bullets later to see what's going on in there.

The 5.45 may be longer ranged and flatter shooting than the 7.62x39.

But if both are allowed to use hollow/soft point rounds, does the 7.62x39 become more devastating by sheer size?

has to do with the angle the magazine catch engages the tab on the magazine, I believe.

I don't speak Russian but there might be something about it in here, I think it's a service manual. For ensuring parts are within spec on severely used or damaged rifles.

Also I do think I've heard Jim Fuller say the selector stop plate is what you modify, not the magazine catch.

Might have to watch a lot of his AK build videos on youtube to find it, though.

if you have some measuring equipment you might wish to make sure your magazines are within spec too?
>>
I wonder if Century has a copy of this manual?
>>
>>29621501
Yeah I might be replacing my mag catch now. I do have a micrometer, but I would imagine the bulgy mags I have are likely in spec. I did buy some cheapo mags that don't fit as well, but the bulgys fit perfect.

Do you know if the mag catch should sit completely open, or should it catch on the angled bit of the mags?

I want to turn a Maadi I just picked up into an AKM but I don't really have the cash for russian wood, I was looking at polish because there doesn't seem to be much of a difference and then I came across this. Does anyone have experience with these or any input?

it's choate shit.

plus it's an RML so the original would have been a thumbhole stock, the handguard would have been fine, but he bought a whole choate set. Other than that it's in great shape, minus part of the finish chipping off on the moving parts.

Kind of, but again we aren't full on announcing that this takes place in East Germany. Kind of like Valkyria Chronicles takes place in not-Europe or Legend of the Five Rings takes place in not-Japan/not-Asia. East Germany will just be the inspiration and place we'll compare it to to get the mood out there.

East Germany was just a really depressing place and really captured the feel that we wanted the setting to have.

No. Tula is underpowered, inconsistent, and dirty. Shit's garbage.

>>29624865

Wolf and Bear are importers, not manufacturers.

Bear ammo is all Barnaul afaik.

Wolf is a mix of Tula, Barnaul, and Lugansk in Ukraine, so watch what you get there too. They're all packages differently and most places will tell you what factory it came from.

The last little while on /akg/ there have been grumblings about issues with Golden Tiger but it's always been excellent for me.

Yugo M67 is based but corrosive and overpriced these days.

Don't panic. The finish may not be as damaged as it looks.

When you use boiling water and solvents to strip off every trace of cosmo or oil, the metal underneath can look a bit weird--pale and dull and spotty like the pictures show. Rub some light oil in with a soft cloth, see if those parts don't suddenly look "normal" again. Betcha that'll fix 'em right up.

Safety has a knick in it and can fairly easily flake off. Guess I'll just use it and see if the receiver starts flaking. Whatever I'll have so much into it once I get it SBRd and whatnot I'll prob just refinish it.

Does anyone know how to install it on an AK? Mine's a more or less standard WASR, with the regular sling attachment loop on the bottom of the buttstock just in front of the buttplate and the little steel ring on the left side of the handguard retainer.

Thanks.

But that's not out of battery. That's pretty much just where the bolt puts the round. It doesn't enter the chamber 100% or there wouldn't be any way for the bolt to pull on the rim and extract it.
>>
>>29632010
Not that I've seen lately. There are similar looking Korean 20 rounders out there, but they have problems. Among other things the magazine follower doesn't rise as far as in "real" AK mags, causing feeding problems for the last 2 or so shoots. I've heard these are fixable by careful filing on the sides of the mag follower to make it rise further, but that risks a follower that gets to the topmost position and jams there.

The rifle's chamber has a notch milled in it for the extractor.

Just stick with Csspecs for any aftermarket .308 VEPR mags. Doesn't matter which size as they're all great. They're very solid and built like tanks, plus Csspecs is good people.

Outers Bore Foam. Just inside the barrel and gas cylinder and on the end of the piston--let it stand, rinse with hot water, use a bore snek and an old toothbrush on other parts, and it's done. Use a bit of brake cleaner to clean the other areas but be sparing. Re-lube with your lube of choice.

My saiga and jew sight. Pretty heavy but fun
>>
>>29633238
How do you like the sight? I am impressed by the ruggedness but I think the central dot is too big in most of the reticles. I think a 2 MOA dot would be about right, maybe with a ring around it to lead the eye to it and make it a bit faster.
>>
>>29633311

I have X reticle one because I was the same way and thought the central dot or triangle was too big. Its a solid sight tho and easy to sight in, has a blue tint, orange reticle, came with the killflash but suffers from washout while inside and aiming outside like all the self powered red dots. Id buy it again.

>>
>>29633429

I was emailing him about it. I have a Bulgarian kit and an Arsenal CHF barrel, it would be $615 for the build, plus another $35 for the side rail to be thrown in.

At the end of all this, I could have just got an Arsenal for the same money, but I think I made a better choice.
>>
>>29633454
Well, if a folding stock is necessary, then go Arsenal but you've already got the kit and wouldn't have the coin (necessarily) for an Arsenal at which point, just stick to it and send your kit that you already own off to a builder.
>>
How do you go about cerakoting an SLR-107? Would you have to disassemble the entire rifle down to each individual piece?
>>
>>29633475

I'll probably want something with a triangle folder somewhere down the road, but I decided I wanted a nice wood AK74 first.

Ultimately I am committed to having this rifle built and I'm going to love it one way or another. Would it be cool to have 6 different AKs set up in all kinds of configurations? Yeah probably. But at the point that I have an AR, and an AK74, and I want an AKM, and an X95 down the road, how many fucking rifles do I need? I mean honestly.

It will work the same recoil reduction wise. Although it will still have higher recoil simply because it's a 7.62. Make sure you get one actually made for 7.62 or bad things will happen

I'm familiar with how cheap they were, I'm also familiar with the fact that they came in a not so standard AK config, including internals, but I didn't know they wouldn't accept a drop in trigger job. I also don't take the opinions of autistic shitposters on an outdated shoshone turquoise bead polishing forum to heart.

The whole "5.45x39 is unobtainium due to it being BANNED" is a meme

5.45 is readily available online in commercial steel case for the same price as 7.62x39 and is still cheaper than 5.56

Sure, it's no longer surplus 7n6 $0.15 a round cheap, but it's easily available for non corrosive perfectly fine ammo at around $0.21-$0.25 a round.

You could get a NATO length polymer stock but they aren't really that much longer, pic related.

You could also get a custom wood stock thats longer.

The fact that the receiver is tapered and the tube isn't will make your gun look funny, and you'll constantly wonder if it's loose or bent.
But nothing functionally wrong.
>>29634394
Some stores carry it (dedicated gun/hunt&fish stores), most of it is online. Not bad pricing.

>I'm also familiar with the fact that they came in a not so standard AK config, including internals, but I didn't know they wouldn't accept a drop in trigger job.

Well apparently you weren't very familiar with their internals. Maybe you should lurk some more before giving out bad recommendations to others. In fact even arsenal SGL's, for instance, will not be able to have an ALG trigger as a drop in replacement.

Your comment about cuck rifles was clearly indicative of your thoughts about those rifles being only worthwhile in gun unfriendly states. You should slow your meme'ing down -you might end up getting hurt if you can't handle the speed.

African poachers still working AK. This beast of the bolsheviks is my weapon of choice. I love the AK. It is heavier than the AR and the ammo is heavier, but 7.62 punches through car doors and brick fucking walls in ways that .22 errr .223 could never penetrate.

The coloration will still be different, And I think the thickness of the layers. Will it be used with Russian/polish handguards? If so, It'll be fine. It won't look super matching, but then again not all pieces from a country match. It'll look like a re-arsenal if it doesn't match.

Note the difference in the layers, and the different "pattern" of the wood. disregard the fact the Russian is finished and the Romanian isn't.

>>29634827

Thank you komrades, this is discouraging. I've found new old stock handguards and grips on apex but no stocks. And I hate to have to pay a premium for a complete russian set on legion's website.
>>
>>29635027
Just adjust whatever your stain is, if they don't match. Don't expect to pass the set off as Romanian or Russian, And It'll be fine. Or call it a Bulgarian rendition (Bulgarian stuff pretty much never close to matching- Orange, brown, yellow, black, all on the same gun)
and don't let the cut of the stocks I showed you fool you, they will be the same. The differences will be in color (russian wood is generally a bit lighter), and russian wood generally only has 2 main, distinct colors, while other countries are *generally* 3-4, less distinct colors. Also Russian stocks can have a slightly different "flow" to the cut, like a slightly different contour. Haven't noticed an actual difference in shape, though.
Just be sure to refinish the non russian first, and then adjust the finish on the russian to match, since its no great challenge to make wood slightly darker. Other way can be a bit of a trick.
>>
>>29635027
