I never personally like how any sort of rail has looked on an AK unless it's a 105 clone with an ultimak or the AK-9 handguard.

>These rust-colored magazines weigh .24 kg (0.53 lb) empty and are often mistakenly identified as being made of Bakelite (a phenolic resin), but were actually fabricated from two-parts of AG-S4 molding compound (a glass-reinforced phenol-formaldehyde binder impregnated composite), assembled using an epoxy resin adhesive

But they look like bakelite, and that's what they've been known colloquially as since they first showed up.

Not that I'm exactly complaining about $1100 for a quality rifle since my AR cost around that much. Just curious.

(refer to chart)

But generally, yes.
>>
>>29472384
Arsenal is the best 5.45 AK you can buy off the rack in the US. Yes it's pricey, but when you compare features and price to the competiton the price is actually what would be expected. The folding stock trunnion is an uncommon and sought after feature in the AK world, plus you get a Bulgarian made receiver and cold hammer forged barrel. Yes you could get a DDI but you won't get any of those three things I mentioned. You could get a Saiga, and keep the high quality receiver and barrel, but lose the folding stock (but maybe folding stocks aren't your thing). But the Saiga will come with its own fair share of probably not function impeding, but grimace inducing quirks that aren't desirable. And we haven't been able to get sub-$300 Saiga rifles in a long time anyways.
>>
>>29472570
Arsenal should really bring back the SLR-105 as a lower priced alternative to the 104's and to cut into the market of people who want a wooden fixed stock. The most common reason I see people hesitate with the 104 over is wanting to go full wood and not being able to with the folding trunnion. That and canted sight memes. If Arsenal reintroduced the 105 for like $900 they would just shit all over the competition. I might would even buy one.
>>
>>29472608
Are the 105 as good as the 104s? I see them come up for sale every once and a while
>>
>>29472802
I really couldn't say, but if I had to guess I'd guess they're on par with the 104's. Not sure why they're not offered anymore.

This. When I was looking at buying my first AK-74 I was looking for a fixed stock option since I wanted to dress it up in original Russian or Bulgarian plum furniture. I had considered getting an SGL31 but they were like $500 more than the SLR-104FR, I ended up settling with the SLR-104FR since later on I could put a triangle folder on it and put a plum handguard and grip on the thing. Then I realized I'd rather just stick with the polymer side folder. Still though, if available I would have gotten the SLR-105. Hell even if they transitioned to the 5.5 mm folding trunnions that'd be nice.
>>
>>29472384
Arsenal is the only company left that is worth a damn when it comes to AK's.

Honestly, get a SAM7SF, it actually warrants its extenuous pricetag. 5.45 is no longer 10-15cpr anymore.

>Honestly, get a SAM7SF, it actually warrants its extenuous pricetag. 5.45 is no longer 10-15cpr anymore.
Kill yourself. The stocks on those things are hideous. Also fuck you, 5.45x39 is the superior round. It's fucks like you that
>hurr durr it's no longer cheap as shit so you shouldn't buy it
That are going to drive the costs up by destroying the demand for it thus none will be imported and the prices will go up. 5.45x39 is JUST as expensive as 7.62x39 and superior in literally every way.

>>

>7n6 is the superior round
FIFY, and seeing how 7n6 is banned from import, it is now next to useless.

The stock on the SAM7SF is a derivative of the Galil stock. It is sturdy, and it is more comfortable than a non-rolled triangle folder.

>5.45x39 is JUST as expensive as 7.62x39 and superior in literally every way.
7n6 was superior, or on par, according to who you ask. 5.45 lead core is crap, seeing as the russians cant or wont push it beyond 2900fps. 7.62 lead core, on the other hand, is effective as fuck, besides flying like a lead brick past 300m. 7n6 could pierce through 10" diameter tree trunks, however any bullet that is more than 57grains in 5.45 is fucking useless as it doesnt travel fast enough and none of them have the air pocket that makes them tumble early on: what 5.45 was designed to do in the first place.

meanwhile, 7.62x39 wasnt designed around speed, and some ammo manuf have put the airpocket in there (cough cough GT anyone?) so it is still effective in its "heavy but dumb" role. It will pierce through cinder blocks with 3 shots and the 3rd has sufficient energy to kill whatever is on the other side. Wood and wallpaper doesnt stop it, and regular housing brick turns to dust when it hits it.

maybe youre new here, maybe your russian (bc you sound like it Mr. "It's fucks like you that"), or maybe youre just retard. either way, get edjumacated fgt
>>

Ill let you in on a secret, at 300m, the width of a human torso is less than half the width of your front sight post. How big you think its gonna be at 450m?
also,

The M16 has an effective range out to 600-800m, yet it still dont make a difference unless you get a direct skull shot on an un-helmeted enemy.

I shoot on Army qual ranges. The 300m torso is about the width of the front post on an M4/M16.

Based on what I have seen, an AK is about the same. So I'm not too worried about it being "half the width".

Have you ever even shot at a torso sized target at 300m?

Three pouches, three mags each, plus one in the chamber, for a total of 10 mags, or 300 rounds of ammunition.

If you need to expend any more ammo than that in a single sitting, your mistake is not carrying too little ammo. It's getting in the situation you are in the first place.

have you not been buying ammo for the past 3 years? SGAmmo has made a statement about GT 5.45 a long ass time ago that they are no longer going to make it, and that GT 7.62 doesnt reliably come in, and they are likely to cut ties with their current connection due to missed production dates.

Go ahead and make shit up. The reason that 5.45 GT hasn't been brought in is because they have Russian military contracts. Also so what? It's almost identical to other lead core, bi-metal jacket 5.45 as far as penetration. You should really get a trip so we can just filter you.

Alright, I'm bored, so I'll humor you.
1) Which US law does it violate, if any?
2) Why should someone who is in, and posting from, another sovereign nation give a fuck about US laws if the law being broken is possession of what would be an illegal item in the US, but is legal in their nation?

That would be like sperging over someone from Amsterdam posting an image of them eating a pot brownie.

As long as the image itself isn't illegal (CP) then it's not a big deal in the least.

Not trying to be That Guy, but:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxtIDUdDLOE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxtIDUdDLOE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_Pf6-AqiA4

To be honest, family, all this commercial 5.45mm, at least in unobstructed shots in ballistic gelatin, seems to behave EXACTLY like the steel core surplus. It yaws rapidly and violently, damaging simulated soft tissue out of all proportion to its paper ballistics. 5.45mm earned its reputation as "the poison bullet" with this level of performance, which is IDENTICAL with commercial FMJ ammo in this caliber.

>"it's shit"

You lost me here. Are you expecting it to yaw and fragment like 5.56mm M193? 5.45mm doesn't do that, at least not with FMJ--not with the thick steel jackets the Russians put on their commercial ammo anyway. Are you expecting it to punch through steel plates like the steelcore surplus does? Why? I have no expectation of that due to the different construction of the bullet.

It wouldn't be my first choice for SHTF/"zombie apocalypse" but I sure wouldn't have any heartburn about it if my Romy WASR2 were what ended up being in my hands if I ever had to repel boarders.

Note that I'm not even talking about 7.62x39 here.
>>
>>29478265
It got the term "poison bullet" because of the gangrene and other shit from not being treated in proper time. Hurr durr the Muj wherent the smartest people.
>>
>>29477735
But it does, sempai, at least in FMJ.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_Pf6-AqiA4

It kind of annoys me to see "ballistic gel tests" where we see only one or maybe two rounds tested. We get no idea of consistency without watching more tests of the same ammo.

But this is the Golden Tiger 5.45mm everyone seems to be talking about, and it doesn't tumble until 5" of gel has been penetrated. Barnaul "Silver Bear" yaws at 2". Neither of them has the steel core, of course. And I'm not sure whether there's any practical difference between the two. Good center mass hits on a bad guy with either round are going to ruin his whole day and very possibly put him in a mood to give up the fight and contemplate his life choices.

The one that goes in the buttstock. Only other thing you need is outers gun oil in a container if you wanna go bare minimum, or outers nitro solvent in addition to that, seeing as most bullets the AK eats are just copper washed steel jackets and not actually Cu/Zn. I think EG made an actual brass brush that fits onto the AK cleaning rod, but not sure.

Not him, but anything that slides gets grease, anything that rotates gets oil. Just remember grease holds onto sand more than sand holds onto oil.

>I was told to avoid steel ammo
this is wrong. brass cased ammo is actually worse because the claw extractor is known to rip rims off while trying to eject after it bends them forward when loading.

If lacquer coated cases are getting stuck in your AK or you are having FTE's you need to stick a chamber brush in there and clean the fucker out good. You best bet is Silverbear due to the fact they dont coat the cases in clear paint, but rather zinc plate them.
>>
>>29482555
Does FTE mean Fail To Eject, or stovepiping?
>>
>>29482571
Or failure to extract. Context is key when saying FTE.
>>
Stovepipe is a FTE lol
>>
>>29482590
What's the difference between extracting and ejecting?

Is extracting taking the casing from the chamber, and ejecting is the casing being thrown from the firearm?
>>

>>

>Is extracting taking the casing from the chamber, and ejecting is the casing being thrown from the firearm?

Basically, yes.
>>
>>29482645
No it's not, that anon had it right.

The extractor is the piece of steel on the bolt that extracts the casing from the chamber. The ejector is the piece of receiver rail in the receiver that knocks it out, ejecting it.

use Outers nitro solvent. Wire brush only caked on carbon buildup, ie bore/chamber/boltface/tipofpiston, everything else gets toothbrush or just rags/q-tips. Go watch a video on youtube. Oh and dont forget to buy a gasport reamer.

>>29483237
its a standard. Its actually very deceiving because they find to puncture skin is roughly the same as 4" of penetration into a gel block. So when you watch those test, automatically cut off the first 4" of the gel, bc that simulates the bullet piercing the skin. Bone correlates to 4-8" depending on the thickness, and organs are all over the place, some being softer than the gel, others being harder.

you want a minimum of 18" of penetration. fuck what anyone else says. 16-18" will get through bone and skin, and end up going through what it was meant to without failing to penetrate sufficiently.

it works, just dont expect it to remove copper fouling. Its really a field brush, just to get the barrel clean, and to agitate any corrosive salts left if you a peasant conscript. Oh, forgot to mention, that cleaning rod has a muzzle cap you gotta drop on before you screw the brush on. that can only reach going thru from muzzle end, which is not recommended because you can fuck up the barrel crown.

For a while it really seemed like it was grinding to a halt. I think one of the machinists had health problems in his family or something.

I wonder if the critical components will be close enough to the real thing that you can use real VSS parts? I know he used a lot of real parts on loan to make the measurements. I know it's not hard to find a real scope and handguards. A real mag would look good for display. I've never seen a real stock for sale but it can't be impossible to find. Walnut stock just wouldn't look right.

Hey guys

Was thinking of buying a VEPR from MOLOT for fun when I found pic related: a "tactical" version of the VEPR sold by Atlantic Arms. It seems they get the VEPR from MOLOT but then replace the wood furniture with a mag pistol grip, adjustable buttstock and manticore keymod rail and then add a flash hider.

I'm a prepper and normally disregard tactical firearms given my plan involves bowhunting BUT I have to confess this "Tactical" firearm intrigued me. I confess to not knowing much about VEPR, MOLOT or Atlantic Firearms but know the AK community here does and figured I'd come ask you your thoughts.

It is paracorded. You can't see it in this shot though. I mag dumped my drum with it without a hitch. If you angle the rifle just slightly, there is no stock slap. The paracord is only there to keep the cold from burning my face in sub-zero temperatures. I had aluminum burn through my skin in -11 before. Took weeks to heal. Like second degree burn.
