>The israel owns America meme
I actually debunked this.
Since you obviously know fuck all about geo politics let me tell you real quick.
We brought Israel into the world in the 1900's, they have been our desert bitch ever since. When Obama got accused of working directly in line with Israels interests he did perhaps the most brilliant thing he's done his entire presidency and say he was thinking about cutting funding to Israel.

This made Netanyahu scream like a bitch all the way to Congress who gave him a podium to beg for more money.

We own Israel. Now, there are JEWS who are billionaires like George Soros who fund liberal stances heavily, but these guys being brought into the light is a step towards tearing them down.
TL;DR you're not fighting for Israel, at worst you're fighting to make your country more money.

Volunteering for anything in USASOC cannot be denied by anyone except for the hostees or if you don't meet their requirements. (Once at your unit.)

You SHOULD have an opportunity to get Airborne and RASP at your AIT. But that isn't a guarantee. (They may only have 5 slots and 5 dudes have better PT scores than you, etc.)

Spending time in conventional can be quite valuable, though it depends on the personality and your interactions. Sometimes knowing what a horribly ran unit, clinic, whatever can really show you how to be better at your job; and it's fairly often that those who started and were bred in SOF tend to not have that unique experience.

Personally, I think being a 68W in SOAR would be lightyears better than batt. But that could just be me. Know that you're not gonna be blasting faces in a stack like the infantry dudes are, even in batt.

Handles all (large majority) of the USASOC's of rotary aviation requirements.

>>
>>29443379

>>
>>29443291
Fuck no don't sell your shit. You can get that shit shipped to you for free after training and you're at your unit. (Apparently long enough tech schools too.)

Military life is just like normal life. Except you do some job with weird ass rules and you have a bunch of people above you who almost legally own you.

The world doesn't disappear.

How many hours do Active Duty military members(?) per week? Does it vary by MOS and branch? Is there a set schedule? 9-5? Do Infantrymen from any branch get it worse than others?

How does this work?
>>
>>29443531
>How many hours do Active Duty military members(?) per week?
What I meant to say
>How many hours do Active Duty military members(?) work per week?
>>
>>29443531
Completely depends on your job.

The most desky, or the closer you work with contractors, the more consistent your hours.

Infantry, combat MOS (like 12B and 13F), line medics, etc. definitely have it the worst on hours. Usual garrison days are just random fuck fuck games and shamming.

Fuck fuck games being random leadership keeping you at work sitting doing nothing. Or getting tasked out for 'details', which are all the random bullshit 'chores' the rest of the Army is too lazy to do themselves, and 99% of the time messes created by them. But it's ok, the infantry are hard enough to handle the excessive free labor hours.

Then when you're training you never get off time in the field. So a 14 day field event means on the clock for 336 hours, and only getting paid for 80. Then you get back for a week, and oh no the field event ended on a Sunday, well too bad buddy, you've got work on Monday.

So then you go in for a work week of fuck fuck games or prepping for the next training event you guys have.

Shamming is either disappearing (playing hooky), or if you have good leadership, told to do whatever you need or want to do, and go to the gym.

The better the leadership, the higher the rank, and the more you move away from conventional Big Army, the better your life becomes.
>>
I will never understand these threads. When I was 17, I just elected to take the ASVAB in high school and read about what jobs were available to me afterward. You can arrange to take the ASVAB before committing to any entry-level position in the military, in any branch. Just do a little of your own reading and make a decision like the rest of us did. Also, don't be fat.

If your body is broken you are disqualified.
If your brain is broken you are disqualified.
Simple as that.

As a 5942 I worked 14 hour days. This was at the beginning of the war when we were training up pilots to deploy, I have heard that being a radar guy is still pretty gay though.

In 29 palms I always saw the 03 guys released by noon after a couple hours of cleaning weapons. They seem to be on permanent skate status when they aren't in the field, and even then friends say they train for a couple hours then just fuck around for the rest of the day.

I wanna either go intel or infy after uni, but the rationale for going reserve infy while in uni is that should I not like the trade, as soon as I graduate I could just apply for direct entry to intel officer and not be stuck with the job.

Plus if I do like infantry, I could already have some experience with the position.

All the atc guys I knew never got a chance to work for the faa. If you check out usajobs all those positions ask for dudes with a billion years of experience, they don't want some 21 year old kid who may have controlled a couple stateside flights a handful of times.

Besides, in both the Marine Corps and Air Force what I witnessed was the senior e5s, staff and officers doing all the controlling while the lower enlisted people just watched the ancillary scopes. I'm sure that is one of the main reasons why someone getting out after ~5 years can't get a job in atc.

ATC and ballistics radar guys on the other hand get courted by Lockheed before they even eas.

yeah, but I didn't differentiate between em, technically the "I painted in college" is also part of arts and humanities. Hence why i deleted my post
>>
>>29445610

When anyone refers to art degrees on 4chan they are talking about anything that isn't stem.

If your diploma says "Bachelor of Arts..." on it, then you've got an art degree.
>>
>>29445639
that implies that all arts degrees are useless. Which I disagree, obviously I wouldn't want an English major running a corporation, but say a IR major with a focus on South East Asian relations could do well as either a diplomat or an analyst with regards to SEA

TLDR: its all about specializing and acknowledging your degree might be over bloated

Literally any bachelors is fine.

I didn't mean to imply that they are completely useless, they are just mostly useless for the military and the Air Force in particular.

Diplomats are civilians. They'd rather have someone with a grasp of math or IT concepts as a 17d than someone who can muse about 17th century literature.
>>
>>29445717
makes sense. I'd be terrified at the notion of people with Poli Sci degrees being hired on as either fighter pilots or mechanics (and this is coming from a poli sci major).
>>
>>29445731
>officers being anything more than glorified paper pushers

fighter pilots maybe, but pffft everything else?
>>
>>29445717
semi off topic here, but thats how nameiwontmention used to hire people in microsofts early days. they would hire people with zoology degrees, because at the time, the technology was new and no-one "knew" it. So they were just looking for people who proved they could shut up and sit down and learn it. said person used to finish his interviews by taking the interviewee for a drive, and asking them why the car was so quiet. it was one of the first electric cars around, and it was modified from a regular gas using car, so nearly no one could figure it out. all he was looking for was "good" answers. didnt matter what you were good at, if you could apply logical thinking and make rational decisions or observations. said the best answer he got from anyone was "non-combustion engine?" from some asian with nearly zero grasp on english. he probably got hired
>>
>>29445744

How is it relevant to speak on the hiring practices of entities before there was specialized training for their industries?
>>
>>29445765
its not. hence the semi off topic warning. if you want me to reach out and try to connect it somehow, i guess i could imply that putting political sci majors or whatnot into military positions is actually, untested and quite possibly beneficial for reasons we havent seen nor comprehend yet. or the thought of interviews just reminded me of a random story. you be the judge.
>>
>>29445777

But it is tested. They do it every time a war breaks out in order to swell the numbers.

They view stem people as the best of the best, so they would rather have them during draw down eras.
>>
>>29445798
theyve tested putting some of them, into minor positions of power, sure. where they got presumably veto`d by the vast majority of actual, hardened grizzled combat ready dudes. maybe we need to change things up a bit. restructure the entire thing. maybe, if every soldier was a poli sci major, they might not even start any wars when they realize they could just buy the oil
>>
If I want to die should become an Army RangerV
>>
>>29446015
Your chances of getting waxed are improved if you join a regular infantry line unit. Rangers drop in, do what they do then exfiltrate. Regular infantry bowls over everything and stays put. That attracts counter attacks.

Idle question while I wait for Sarge to get his ass in gear.

Does the place where they put you up for MEPS have a DVD player, or is all the stuff on a closed circuit?

And would I get reamed out if I brought a couple DVDs? How could anyone mind some Starship Troopers and Gundam 0083?
>>
>>29446368

Go to usajobs and look up atc for your region. If you actually find positions, then you will see that you need a minimum of 36 months of experience.

Now, after you get out of the military you're going to be competing for that one or two job openings in your entire state. If there is some atc guy who is transferring to you area who already works for the faa, then the posting is a formality and your application will be passed over. If there is an e8 who just got out and applies for that job, then the posting is a formality and your application will be passed over.

I just checked it out and there are 42 jobs available for atc in the entire nation. You're worse off after getting out than a navy nuke as far as job prospects go, it isn't a smart move if your plan is to set yourself up for a career.

Is there a strict limit on scoliosis disqualification, or is it a case by case basis sort of thing? No pain and never needed a brace. I don't remember the exact degree of curvature, but I distinctly remember by doctor saying 'mild to moderate' back in middle school when it was discovered. That's assuming it didn't get worse, of course. If it has, my doctor hasn't said anything at my physical

As a former submariner, rule them out entirely. If you already have scoliosis, your back will be completely shot after 5 years of steel decks, cramped ceilings, and too short metal beds.

You could probably get a waiver for most of them on the surface, outside of surface nuke.

Alright, thanks again. I find subs really interesting, so I was considering them despite the horrible conditions, but I guess I'll go back to ruling them out.

Fort Gordon gets a bad reputation because a shit-ton of people go to AIT there. AIT is miserable, therefore any post that people solely associate with their AIT is going to be deemed garbage. Same with Fort Huachuca, for instance.

Are you majoring in something stupid or is everyone in Maryland massive faggots like that?
>>
>>29451896
Not really. Remember that the government provides most student loans through FAFSA and shit anyway. And remember that student loan interest rate is high because so many people default on them. And that's not taking into account the actual, real price of college, which can be pretty cheap. In state tuition for a college in my state was well below 10k a year. Hell, my college was 20k a year, but scholarships dropped that to 5k. And then there's all the sneaky ways governments can finagle things, like offering tax breaks for taking vets at a cheaper price, or something like that.

It's the good schools that tend to be more expensive, and I think the government is counting on the fact that someone who signs up for four years of service isn't bright enough to go to a 100k a year school.
>>
>>29452653

>In state tuition for a college in my state was well below 10k a year.

Same here. For California residents CSUs are $3800/ semester.

I don't remember but isn't there some kind of tuition cap in respect to private schools?
>>
>>29452707
Montgomery GI Bill covers up to $4500 a year. Not sure if the Post 9/11 is different.

I remember reading somewhere that the GI Bill will give as much as the highest cost state school in your state, if that makes sense. That might be the Post 9/11.

Here in Jersey, the Guard will cover any tuition money that is left to pay after your FAFSA
>>
>>29452742
Post-9/11 is 100% public school tuition + E5 BAH in your zip code.

Yes, that means if you go to some California schools you get paid $3500/mo~ to go to school.
>>
>>29452814
There are state schools in Cali that cost $35,000 per year? Or was that a typo?

And hot damn, no one ever told me about the BAH thing. I gotta deploy. You know if it's the same deal for the Guard?
>>
>>29452742

I'm talking about the post 9/11. I doubt anyone here is old enough to not have only qualified for the old one... you'd have to be at least 34.
>>
>>29442016
I know about Marine Aviation. Went to OCS last summer. What do you want to know?
>>
>>29452860

Not a typo, the $3500 is what you get paid to you for BAH. You don't pay for tuition, it's just 100% covered by the GI Bill.

Using the GI Bill to go to an expensive school like Berkeley ends up being like a $200,000 benefit between the free tuition and all the housing money. Pretty good deal for a 3 year enlistment.
>>
>>29452991
>$200,000 benefit between the free tuition and all the housing money
jesus fucking christ, no wonder people are leaving American unies for European ones.

>>29452991

>>
>>29453048
It sucked but it's not impossible. Not like all the recruiting commercials try to make it to be impossible.
For us the aviator pipeline goes like this
OCS -> Commsisoning -> The Basic School (6 months of platoon level leadership stuff, not too bad, I'm here now) -> Basic flight school -> airframe-specific flight school -> duty station
I haven't been to flight school yet. I'd like to do helicopters

>>
>>29453076

It is 100 % tuition upto the most expensive public school (of which Berkeley is one, for instance). Many private schools will also match the difference ("Yellow Ribbon Program"). It isn't free tuition to any school in the country, but it is pretty damn close, plus you get a check every month for housing expenses.
>>
>>29453144
Run. I ran 4 days per week and it broke down like this:
1 long run of 6-10 miles
1 fartlek run (these are big at our OCS, not sure about you) which consists of running 400 to 800 meters, stopping and doing an exercise (pushups, situps, pullups, burpees, squats, etc) and getting up and running again. Repeat for a total of 3 to 5 miles
2 interval runs - one would be shorter with 400 or 800 meter repeats and one would be longer; for example, I would run a 5K with 3 or 4 intervals, each lasting 1 minute, at a 6 minute pace or better)
After the run, I would go to the gym and do circuit training - 1 minute pushups, one minute of pullups, one minute of crunches, one minute of farmer's carries, one minute of buddy carries) repeat ad nauseam

Not sure what the current situation is, but back around 2005 you load your dirty laundry into a bag tied to your bed, and the guys on laundry duty for your flight go around and harvest the dirty laundry and go wash it in the industrial washers and driers nearby. This was also true in the 319th(Med Hold) as well.

I've only talked to the recruiter so far, I have yet to go to MEPS for a physical as well as take the ASVAB since I'm waiting on my birth certificate to come in the mail and then I can get that stuff done. My paranoia is that my scar is obviously from getting cut by something. It's probably just pre-MEPS jitters but at the same time having to fall off of a bike to cover up my scar looks like it's gonna hurt like hell and given the conspicuous location of my scar it might seem suspicious and probably screw me over anyway. I guess I'm paranoid because I hate lying and I don't know what MEPS is like anyway.

Don't be paranoid. Don't give the recruiters many unnecessary details. Try to answer things with short answers like yes and no.
Obviously lie about anything that might disqualify you they THEY CAN'T PROVE(hurting yourself ). Saying you don't remember works well too.

MEPS is boring as fuck. You sit and wait mostly. You do eye test, hearing test, blood test, personality test, some other test I'm probably forgetting. The doctor will grab your balls, be prepared for that.

Let me tell you again, the most important thing is not to tell them unnecessary things and be brief with your answers. Only you know what's wrong with your body and only you know what might get you disqualified. If you have to lie make it a believable story and stick to it.

Managed to get through meps, perfect vision, no issues on physical have to wait on SG to give me a waiver cause adhd i talked about way back before i knew to keep it on the DL, my only worry is some bullshit like i got my tonsils out and that counts as surgery, or my mom took me to the ER at age 2 and didnt tell me about it and i put no on the answer and they somehow find out through magical bullshitting powers

Junior in college here. When I graduate, I will have a BA in History and a BA in Criminal Justice (pre-law focus).

Even though it is my first love, history will never get me a job good enough to support the family my soon-to-be-wife and I want to build. On the other hand, law-school is ridiculously expensive, with an abysmal job market, and I already have student loans.

I know this sounds stupid, but I am just now starting to realize just how deeply in shit I am sunk. I have absolutely no marketable skills except very good reading comprehension, strong writing, and a good personality/social skills.

I have been seriously considering going to OCS and trying to get into the Army as a way to gain some sort of skill-set, earn enough money to live off, and hopefully get some help with my student loan debt. Is this a reasonable path to take? From scanning these threads in the past, it seems a lot of guys in the military do not think very fondly of the 2nd LT babies, but it seems like the best option for me.

I am 6'1, 200lbs, not currently fit, but not fat either. I will do anything, no matter how difficult, in order to avoid being a burden on my family. Out of all the branches, the Army and the Marine Corps are what I am seriously considering. I have not talked to a recruiter yet, and I went to a private (Christian) high-school so I have never taken the ASVAB.

Any suggestions?
>>
>>29457863
Have you just considered a job law enforcement?

And don't join the Muhreens. The pay grade per rank is a step lower than any other branch
>>
>>29457863
Go OCS. Talk to a recruiter to for more details and to get the process started.
>>
>>29457896

I have, and to be honest, I think I would be pretty good at it. My primary reason for considering the military over police is that I believe I would be able to get more out of being an officer in the Army than being a cop.

Being a military officer seems like it would be a much better stepping stone into a decent civilian job than just being a cop for 30 years. Plus, it is much more socially prestigious where I live as opposed to being a police officer.

Truthfully though, I do not know much about what being an officer is actually like. Would anyone here be able to give me a quick rundown of what a 2nd LT would actually do?
>>
>>29457902

I really do need to talk to a recruiter. I have been sitting on my ass (figuratively) since the Fall turning it over in my head.

What has really bothered me is that everyone I have asked about the military in my family who has been in, has told me not to do it. I don't know if they can just tell I'm not cut out for it or what. My uncle was an MP and NCO in Desert Storm, and he gave me a very definite "no, absolutely not" when I talked to him about it.

Now that we are in peacetime though, what is the worst that could happen to me as an officer? Even in the field, I understand that they are rarely in actual firefights, correct?
>>
>>29457951
Your uncle was in the military during a different time period, it's different now.
Most everyone thinks if you join the army you're going to be in a firefight and die, this is absolutely false. A very small percentage of soldiers ever see combat now and it's limited to peace keeping in Afghanistan. Officers are always more protected than enlisted.
>>
>>29457988
>officers are more protected than enlisted
This is a blanket statement. In an apache unit the officers go out everyday, the enlisted stay inside the wire.
>>
SHOULD I GO FOR WARRENT OFFICER IN THE ARMY OR TACP IN THE AIR FORCE?
>>
>>29457863
OCS for you.

Don't worry about being out of shape the military doesn't actually care about that and/or will get you to fix it when the time comes. Though you might want to give up smoking and work on your cardio.

There's some officer programs that can result in careers with absurdly marketable skill sets.
>>
>>29457996
Generally speaking they are more protected, you don't want your highly trained officers being more susceptible to danger than enlisted
>>
>>29458004
Warrant.
>>
>>29457988
I thought that might be the case. To clarify, I have no qualms with combat, in fact I intend on trying to go into a combat oriented position because of my lack of technical or computer skills.

>>29458008
I don't smoke, and I don't drink. I think the most important thing for me right now will be start running regularly again.

I noticed that there is a testing option which is supposed to detect your aptitude in learning other languages, and you can be sent to learn another one at a special school of some kind.
Would this be worth pursuing?

Thanks for the advise from everyone who has replied so far.
>>

Sweet fucking omoplata, if you're having financial problems you should stay the fuck away from building a family, and you should NEVER get the state to recognize your current relationship legally. You are setting yourself up for some serious ass ramming problems down the road. Please consider YOUR own (not anyone else, just you cunt) financial burdens/goals in the context of your future. A marriage/family built on shifting financial sands is a death trap mate. And if you plan on joining the military that's just more stress you have to burden. I'm warning you, your shit is textbook to the letter. I've seen good men fall to this shit before.

Can you even enter DEP or go to MEPS while overweight? As of this morning, I'm around 4 pounds too heavy for my height by Air Force requirements. Am I just going to have to wait to work off that last bit before I can get started?

I understand what you're saying, and trust me when I say that I am not a complete altruist. I'm considering the military because I think it is what I want to do, not just because I think I have to in order to take care of others.

My fiance is looking at much more practical career with her degree than I am, and I will not be supporting us on my own. I'm considering the military because it seems economically advantageous to me, and because I have a desire to fulfill a civic duty of some kind.

Both of us come from families where our parents' marriages have worked through dedication and devotion. We are both conservatively minded and religious, and neither of us consider divorce or separation an option after marriage.

This is not really on topic with the thread though, so that is all I will say about that.

>And don't join the Muhreens. The pay grade per rank is a step lower than any other branch

Wtf are you talking about an E-3 is an E-3
>>
>>29458214
Understood. The marriage discussion doesn't pertain to this board however I wanted to make my points clear. Like I said, far too many good men fall trap to the pussy. And I fully support your decision to enlist/commission.

Another point worth discussing is your geographic situation. Are you near, or are you planning on moving to, a large metropolitan area? Major city sprawls have far more opportunity for civic duty careers should you choose to ETS. Stuff like fire departments, LEO, etc, all scratch that itch. I know the branch of options might be a little overwhelming right now, but maybe consider your near future actions in the military in the context of some civic duty opportunities.

Currently, I am going to college in the middle of absolute bum-fuck nowhere in Kentucky. I am originally from the Cincinnati area on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River, and would love to spend the rest of my life working in the Northern Ky/Cincy area.

I actually have thought about employment opportunities in the area after I've completed however many years in the military I want to serve. Like you mentioned, LEO and fire departments are the most common. Seeing as how I'm posting in /k/, and am a CJ major, I think its obvious which I would choose if given the opportunity.

I've considered the Kentucky State Police, they seem sharp as hell, and their academy is essentially the same as Army bootcamp from what I've been told. I just don't know if its for me really; I have talked to several former KSP guys, and its really kind of a dead-end job unless you get out and get a J.D.

I know this might sound elitist as hell, but I think I could really do a lot better than being a local LEO. I've considered federal law enforcement quite seriously, I actually was primarily interested in law school as an avenue from which to attempt to get into the FBI. However, that simply seems too far-fetched right now.

I vaguely know that military lawyers (JAGs?) exist, but I have no idea how attaining a J.D. while in the military works. Would I need to be in the reserves? Or could I do it while active duty?
>>
>>29458469
You would need to apply for the program, that will pay for it while you study then incur the ball and chain after. Or you can get a direct commission after you get your degree which is less competitive
>>
marine corps reserves or army national guard?

>>29458469
JAG was insanely competitive when I was in law school a few years ago. they were pretty much only taking prior service

Cheating and adultery are all about opportunity home slice. And she will have a shit ton of opportunity while you are in basic and OCS, or any time you deploy or go on TDY orders that don't allow dependents.

I know you (and probably her too) think you're going to be together forever and you were meant to be, but it's probably not true. I'm assuming you're a traditional student (straight from high school to college), so you can't have been together all that long. I'm guessing what, two years maybe?

The other anon is right, it doesn't matter "how strongly you want to be together" if you're in a financial pit combined with you being at work for extended periods of time, deploying, going on TDY etc.

As far as her going into a more "practical field" with her degree, that's not going to matter when she has to uproot and move all over with you whenever you PCS which will probably be about every two years.

Unless she is running her own business online she's not going to have time for a career. And that's probably going to cause even more problems.

>We are both conservatively minded and religious, and neither of us consider divorce or separation an option after marriage.

This is even more reason to wait until you've actually gone and enlisted with an OCS contract, and finish OCS to get married.

Because she probably says this because you say this, and the first time she has access to some other dick she's probably going to bail.

I also want to clarify, I'm not saying this from a place of "woman hate" or whatever other bullshit excuse someone will use to dismiss my post.

>>
>>29459031
Not the poster you replied to but This has been a bit of a worry of mine, ideally I want to stay in touch with the only wife material girl I've dated after gaining my commission via rotc and wait until I'm out and with a stable job to settle down. I'd rather marry her sooner than later and I do trust her but there'd always be that nagging thought of being cheated on while away from her.

I head to MEPS next Monday for my physical, and honestly, I'm worried about the vision test.

I don't use corrective lenses nor have I ever used them, and I don't recall ever needing them to get by. But I have to admit my vision is less than optimal from years of staring at the computer monitor in the dark, and I have to squint and/or move closer to read the same set of letters that people with average eyesight would have no trouble reading. I'm somewhat apprehensive about the physical in that there could be a distinct possibility that I would be disqualified because of my suboptimal vision.

If it helps to know, I passed the vision test for my driver's license a year and a half back (when I was 23; I was a late bloomer), and I don't think there has been any noticeable change to my vision since.

Best advice I can give you is to stop looking at things so closely. Stop using your computer, tv, and phone right now so they can adjust by the time of your eye test.
I had this problem in AIT when i got hurt and was sidelined for a week, all I did was play games on my smartphone. Next day when I was activated I had to shoot at the range and I couldn't see shit.

I'm trying to get commissioned in the air guard and my recruiter says she needs a copy of my service record from when I was in the Marine Corps. She has no idea how I am supposed to get it and neither do I.

I remember my little brown folder from when I was in but of course they keep it at eas. Everything I google about "how to get copy of military service record" just turns up crap about getting your 214.

Anyone know what the fuck my recruiter is talking about? Is it somehow possible to get a copy of your brown Marine folder?

For the run, learn good running form and do intervals. I actually had a college track coach help me with my form (it's a small school so the coaches are pretty chill)

Try to get close to 300 as possible. 19D here and when I did both my PFT in OSUT our drill sergeants smoked us before them, if you can do 300 in a controlled environment before you ship you should have no problem passing if they smoke you before the test or if you're hurt when you do it.
