I mean, my rifles with cryptic BCGs shoot as nicely as my rifles with phosphate BCGs, but they're really easy to clean and require a lot less lube; you can basically run it dry. I suspect their true worth will show once I start shooting suppressed in 5-6 months once my Form 4 is approved.
I also got mine a long time ago when they were a bit cheaper, so it was definitely worth it for me.
Also, check out this 10k review for a more in-depth look.

>>29335910
Place it on a sharply contrasting background and with better lighting. I'll be happy to do it for you if you recommend a good stripped lower to start with for a beginner
Anyone live on the east coast? I'm trying to decide on a caliber, and we generally don't have huge open plains like out west. What's the maximum range you can envision engaging hostiles at?
>>29334448
What temp should I bake my Aervoe at and how long?
>>29335968
I also haven't painted my lower or upper yet. Just my rail. I'm assuming I should do them at the same time?
Then again the receivers being slightly different might turn out cool
>>29335943
All lowers are pretty much the same, some have fancy ambi controls or are billet. Find a roll mark you like and get it
>>29335943
Would place it on a background if I wasn't at school away from my funs. Need to take better pics anyway, all the ones I have were taken with my old stock (airsoft place holder) and I only have 2 with the current stock and they were taken in a rush as I left.
In regards to the lower, I would recommend spikes because it seems to be the cheapest brand with the least bad reviews, if any. Everything fit great in mine and it was only $80. You could get Anderson for $45~ but I've read that some people have fitting issues with the pins. My friend has one and his were a little tight, but not bad. It depends on your budget. If money is no object, just go for a roll mark you like. Spikes has 3-4 roll marks to pick from.
>>29334448
What does /arg/ think about using grease, or using both grease and oil on different parts?
>>29335999
Grease for parts that slide. Oil for parts that pivot.
What do you guys think of this, good to go?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0143IWHDC
Looking at the 12"x23" Torso in 1/2" thickness.
Would this be able to stand up to 10mm @ 25m, 5.56 / 5.45 @ 50m, .308 @ 75-100m, and .300WM @ 200m?
I've been needing a good steel target for a long time, because fuck setting up paper for handguns and having to go check 600m rifle targets after every couple groups. I want auditory feedback.

It's perfect.
>>29336048
You'll be fine no matter what you use (mostly), but it does sound like you went a bit overboard. There's really no reason to oil/grease the buffer or buffer tube.
Just make sure not to overdo it with anything like the bolt or cam pin.
>>29335999
>>29336048
Nah you're good. I regularly grease the inside of the buffer tube. Reduces noise and friction. I also do 1 drop of oil on each trigger pin
>>29334607
>i dont even make the list
>>29336091
>there's really no reason to oil/grease the buffer or buffer tube
Reduces spring noise. Admittedly it has no real effect on reliability, but that SPROING every time you shoot gets old fast, especially with very quiet guns.

Where on the east coast? 5.56 will work pretty much everywhere. Most gun battles aren't at 600+ meters
>>29336091
>>29336104
Alright cool. I went with as light coat of grease as I could without leaving ungreased spots. I initially greased the firing pin as well but it wouldn't move freely so I wiped it off and used FP-10 instead.
>>29336138
is this supposed to make us feel bad or something?
Alright guise, question time.
I have an idea.
>16" middy
>adjustable gas block
>JP captured spring system with light springs
>light weight buffer (~2.5oz or less, down from standard 3oz carbine buffer)
>dial the gas down to where it's properly gassed
The idea is very low recoil impulse and significantly reduced fouling due to minimal amount of gas back into receiver.
So my question is:
>will this reduce the dwell time to dumb/unsafe levels?
I know race guns do this with the low mass carriers and light springs but those are considered consumable.
>>29336178
The firing place is the one object I never really lubricate like that tbhfam

This can be for a couple of reasons. If you primed it with black paint, you're gonna need more coats to get close to the advertised color
Prime with white on the other hand, and you'll be putting on more coats to bring the brightness down

Radical is not the worst, but it's definitely destitute tier. I'm not asking much for the barrel, but I don't think it'll sell any time soon. Barrels are p cheap atm in general.
>>29337486
There's a ton of reports of RF barrels having their barrel extension come loose during firing. They don't torque them enough and the shoulder is way out of square on a good number of them. They literally are the worst barrels available because they're literally unsafe to use.
If you were building (or have built) an A4gery, how much would you be willing to deviate? Better trigger? Nitrided BCG?
>>29337510
Why do you think I replaced it :DD
Actually I don't think any came loose while firing, but rather while installing or putting on a muzzle device as a result of them coating the barrel with the extension already torqued. I'm not sure if they've fixed that or not, but I never fired it to find out.
>>29337535
>Why do you think I replaced it :DD
the thing is you shouldnt have to replace anything. radical and hardened are both shit
>>29337535
If I still had access to a lathe I might have been interested in the barrel. Not hard to square off the shoulder and loctite the barrel extension. Buuut. I don't any more. Oh well.

Then my wife got a hella nice job and got sick of an hour-long one way commute so we "had" to move innacity. And innacity we had our choice of 1100sqft houses with 1-car garages or 1800sqft houses with curb parking, and since we have kids and pets the choice was pretty easy.

Yes aluminum oxidizes, but takes so long to do any actual damage to the aluminum it's strictly an annoyance due to leaving the black shit (aluminum oxide) all over fucking everything.
You prevent it by painting/cerakoting/powdercoating it. If you like the look of the bare aluminum, get it coated in the clear Cerakote. None of them are as permanent as anodizing but they last a good long while.

>>29338199
lol I hear you on the torque. The corded one is always way too much. It can seriously torque down to 90 ft-lbs. No idea why they made it that stout.
At least it's fairly quiet, a rarity considering its age.
The cordless was the "contractor grade" one from like 2000 or so and is 24v, has a shitload of torque settings and 4 drive speeds. Other than I really need to replace one of the batteries (which aren't made any more) it's great.
What tools would i need to take a barrel, railed gas bock and gas tube out of one upper and into an other one?
>>29338279
Vise, upper receiver block/reaction rod/BEV tool, torque wrench capable of at least 50 lb-ft, barrel nut wrench with a socket for your torque wrench
>>29338279
vise, set of punches, hammer, torque wrench, armorers tool, receiver block. why would you want to keep the railed gb though

A torque wrench isn't 100% necessary BUT it is nice to have. I bought one at harbor freight this weekend for $9 in their parking lot sale. For that price it's pretty hard to find a reason not to have one.
I used it to install a barrel yesterday. Worked great.

All upper receivers are essentially the same unless you have a billet gucci design that you're looking at.
You're also probably going to need allen wrenches (aka hex keys) if your gas block has set screws.
The most important thing though is the vise. Without a vise mounted to a solid work surface, you're gonna have a bad time.

Hey guys I have noob question. I want to get a Troy Delta rail for my recently acquired Colt 6920 M4gery carbine like pic related.
Thing is, how is there not 4 inches of barrel beyond the end of the rail there? The rail is shown going all the way to the flash suppressor but the rail only supposed to be 12 inches not 14-15 and you can see here even on Troy's carbine gas length AR with a 16 inch barrel the rail extends damn near to the end of the barrel.
I ask because I do like the look that comes with the rail going all the way to the flash suppressor but the lengths aren't adding up because on primary arms it says the troy delta rail is 12' long.

they are calling that gun the "troy delta carbine" they are not talking about the gas length. you can buy the rail separate in carbine length
>>29338557
Right and that will leave about 4 inches of barrel extending beyond the rail like pictured here on a 16 inch barrel.
This is the setup I want to mimic I just with the rail was a few inches longer. I'm just being autistic though.
