Can I get some advice /arg/
Serious question:
M193 vs 55 grain .223
What's the practical difference between these two? Off the bat I notice muzzle velocity
What should I expect (in terms of Point of Aim/Impact) if I zeroed with the XM193 on the bottom?

>>29315046
4x for 200y is far less than I would go for personally. You'll hit man sized targets, but you won't be impressing anybody with your groups. Bushnell is fine however.
>>29315068
Goes without saying, but recoil will be a little different.
>>29315073
sure
>>29315090
I assumed the .223 would be lighter but it's hotter out the muzzle so...elaborate?
>>29315112
I was just referring to conservation of energy. Hotter projectile means slightly more recoil. Also, I may be wrong, but I beleive .223 can be loaded hotter than 5.56.

ok whats the best glass i can get (preferably from amazon) for around $100 that is ~2-10x magnification?
should I bite the bullet and up my budget to ~200. I have about 1k into my rifle but this is for deer hunting and shooing holes in paper so I don't need a $1k scope.
>>29315332
If you bump your budget up to $300 you can get a lot more optic than you would for $100. Check out vortex.
>>29315018
he is, even emailed me about it for some reason.

>>29315355

>>29315350
alright serious question, im kind of a noob so i wont be hard to impress with glass, im looking for function over perfection, can I get away with $100 or close to it and still have good glass or are the reviews on amazon scopes for ~$100 all idiots?
I don't want to spend more than 1/5th the rifle cost on glass as most deer I see are closer than 100 yards and there is no range here that has targets past 100 yards. I do plan on traveling to public land and seeing how far out i can take it though (20" ar15 .223)

>>29315382
>within 150 yards
Why a 3-9x instead of a much more universal 1-4/1-6x?
>>29315393
$100 will buy you a piece of garbage if that's what you want.
A 1-4 should be plenty for that distance, Try the Vortex Crossfire II 1-4X and a decent mount, ADM's is probably the best cost effective mount that's still really good.
I wouldn't go any cheaper than that really, I had a Crossfire II 1-4X and it was good for the price but not really great overall.

glass is expensive, a $100 optic might work but only in the same way a 82 honda civic works. It'll do, nothing special, just get the job done. Better have some glowing reviews otherwise you could have serious quality issues like shifting zero.
I have a $1k rifle with a $400 optic, a lot of the arfags in here have spent 300+ on optics, its not uncommon.

>>29315521

>>29315533
really? friend of mine has a 16" upper with a rifle length system and a lighter recoil spring/carbine buffer and it runs really smooth
>>29315474
$300 is not a lot for an optic.
It's at the extreme low end of what I'd call acceptable for any purpose. I wouldn't put a $100 optic on rimfire. But for cheapfags, there are lots of acceptable optics at varying magnification levels. Pic related.
>>29315449
>plinking and durr hunting within 150 yards
>getting decent groups at 500 yards
These are two very different applications, Anon... and the other one won't cost you anywhere near $300
Anyway, for $300 you can get a not-entirely-shit 1-4x like >>29315429 says.
Bump it up to $500 or so and you can get the Viper PST.
>>29315551
I think you can go either way, some say there can be reliability issues with rifle gas in 16" because of the shortness of time between gas reaching the block and bullet leaving the barrel, but others like you say there are no such problems.
¯\(°_o)/¯
>>29315068
They'll be "close enough" out to 400 or so yards.
>>29315564
I know its not a lot, I was trying to explain to anon that $300 is more or less the starting point for decent glass. I'd love an ACOG but I bought an AK instead for less than the ACOG costs.
>>29315521
i prefer more zoom. i have a cheap 3-9x on my .270 rifle and if possible id like even more magnification than that. even if its just because i think it's cool.

Any of you guys try that IMI OTM 77gr stuff on AIM? Was thinking of getting a few boxes but only if it shoots decent.

The price is really appealing, along with the fact that I can get it from aim. If it shoots well I will stock up. Have shot my rifle plenty and love it but haven't put any good ammo through it. It gets 1.25-1.5 inches at 100 yards with almost anything but I feel like I could do better with good loads.

There's nothing great at that price point.
That being said you can get the 44mm obj version of the Weaver Kaspa Tactical 2.5-10x. Of course at that price point it's SFP and the glass is meh, but mine at least passed the box test and the tactical turrets aren't too mushy on their clicks. It seems to bounce back and forth from ~$110-150.

>favorite mag
Troy Battlemag. Reliable, integrated mag pull, no fat baseplate like a gen2 Pmag, came out around the time the Gen2 Pmags did. Used to be you could get 3-packs of them for around $20 so they were significantly cheaper than Pmags, but that ship seems to have sailed. They're also absolutely awesome for stenciling on because they've got big flat sides.
The Gen2 Pmag is like a Hilux--reliable as hell but lacks class. Only complaint is the fat baseplate and the window being in a sorta-retarded spot (can only see your rounds if you have 10+ left, at which point you don't need to see your rounds).
Haven't had a chance to try a Gen3 yet.
I do not like Lancers, had a couple and they proved to be brittle. They all shattered, though granted under abnormal use (trying to thin the ribs for .300blk, which everyone swears fits without modification but it didn't).
I've never even seen an Ultimag in person, sorry.
C-Products makes GOAT metal mags. Stainless bodies, teflon coated, anti-tilt follower. Alt-cal mags have the caliber marked on the follower.
>>29315897

>>29315754
They're not "shit" but they're certainly not worth anywhere near what they want for them.
>if you live anywhere that actually gets cold and use your car heater going to the range the POI can/will shift

Colt/OKAY/Larsen/Center/Labelle/NHMTG USGI 30 with or without Magpul followers, USGI 20, and Lancer are my favorites. Those old USGI 20s with aluminum followers are killer if you don't pay too much.
Troy and IWI I found to be fine, but prone to the same sticking that all polymer mags suffer from (except Lancer). I like the pink Troys, they are pretty.
D&H/DPMS and C-Products are good when they work, but they both are hit or miss. Good ones are highly praised. Buy lots and return the bad ones.
PMags are near the bottom of the totem pole in my experience because they stick, don't work in all STANAG pattern rifles, they crack down the spine and though I have not had this problem, they bind when seated firmly. Stoner, Surefire, KKK, Western, National/USA, Thermold, Pro-mag, Tapco, Tango Down and any unmarked USGI are all shit. E-Landers are just abject garbage full stop, and Mako, their sole importer, is irredeemable. Avoid at all costs.
I have not used Hexmag, Brownells or FN but have heard mostly good things about all. I think I'm going to try a batch of Brownells USGI 20s next. Right now I'm down to ~20 USGI 30, ~10 USGI 20, a handful of Lancers and I keep one PMag around to laugh at and pose for pictures so people think I'm cool.
This is all my experience, yours may differ.

He was in the bathroom and when he came out i killed him with his own gun.

I've got a Viper HS 2.5-10x and love it. It's SFP and has a proprietary BDC instead of a ranging reticle but that's fine for its purpose and magnification. Very clear glass. They run about $450 IIRC.
Step up from that would be a Viper HS-T, then a Viper PST. Some of the HS-T's are FFP, all the PST's are. They all use the same glass (which is very good) and just have different features.

>>29318304
interesting, who ya rootin for
>>29318322
amg but they are fucking it up royally today.
>>29318190
I did some quick research.
The EXPS is lower 1/3 co-witness while the XPS is absolute co-witness. As far as Eotech goes only the EXPS comes in the combo with the magnifier because their magnifier and mount setup is fixed at lower 1/3rd co-witness.
To get the lowest profile setup and run the red dot closest to the bore you want absolute co-witness so this would mean the XPS. Then you couldn't run the Eotech G33 because that only works with lower 1/3rd, so you would have to get the Aimpoint magnifier and an absolute co-witness mount. Maybe something like this:
http://www.larue.com/comboaimpoint-3x-magnifier-11324-and-lt755-30s-qd-mount-short
Keep in mind a lot of guys on here do not like red dot and magnifier setups. For full disclosure, I've never actually shot one, only messed with them at LGS and gun shows, but it seems like the ideal solution in my opinion, for my uses.

Serious question. Why do they even bother to make 16 inch carbine length uppers? Considering mid-length is easier on the rifle itself and its just as reliable it doesn't really make sense. I bought a 16 inch carbine and I regret it. It just looks off, and i've heard carbine is more damaging to the parts. Is there something i'm overlooking?
