Add an Anderson lower from your local gun shop for about ~$70 and you're sitting pretty at $675. Spend $30 for three PMAGs and you're in business. $50 less and measurably nicer.

I don't know much about /k/ or ARs but I've grown up hunting and own multiple pistols, shotguns, and deer rifles.
My question is how hard is it to finish an 80% lower and build my own? I've watched some videos and found some jigs to purchase online.
I was just wanting to hear from some actually experienced people.

It's not a matter of if it'll fit, it's dwell time and general reliability. Midlength on a 14.5" already starts getting a little picky with ammo, 11.5" really increases your chances of gas issues with cheaper, lighter ammo.

I'd say it's a tossup between midlength and carbine gas at 14.5". Shorter should use Carbine, and longer should use midlength, at least in my opinion.

I think the deserttech carbine is really neat because it has a forward located mag release instead of a rearward located one.

the feed ramp in an ar is comprised of two parts, the ramp cut into the upper receiver and the barrel's extension.

rifle has a shallower angle.
m4 has a much deeper cut.

m4 extension with rifle upper is okay but not ideal.
m4 upper with rifle extension can prevent reliable feeding as the receiver's feed ramp runs into flat metal below where the rifle extension's ramp starts.
matching pairs are ideal. m4 extensions become more ideal the shorter gas system is as the rifle will feed more violently/in a shorter cycle.

The reason they stopped using them tho was because the primary purpose behind the design was to act as a wire cutter. I.e, you shoot the rifle with the wire in the flash hider.
