"APGNation: The character of Sayo Yasuda in Umineko is interesting. What were your thoughts in Sayo’s creation? Additionally, what were your thoughts on her expansion in the Umineko manga?

Ryukishi07: The secret of the character of Sayo is the core of Umineko’s story, so her inner workings and development were designed carefully and with the utmost complexity.
In the original version, in order to leave room for imagination for the reader to solve the mystery, I chose not to draw Sayo’s secrets in great detail (of course, it’s still possible to grasp, but I didn’t show things in a way where everyone would get it.)
With the manga version of Umineko, however, we considered the work to be a “period” to the “sentence” that is the world of Umineko.
Because of this, when I met with Natsumi-sensei [Kei Natsumi, the artist of the manga adaptation of Umineko’s eighth episode], I asked her to show all the secrets in a way that can easily be understood by anyone.
Thus, all of the episode of Sayo that appeared in the EP8 manga is the official answer to the world of Umineko.
By no means is the manga version a individual interpretation. It is an official answer from me, Ryukishi07."

I'm pretty sure Rewrite was a commercial success. Also, Iwaihime got a PS4 port and Higanbana got a 3DS port so they can't have failed that hard commercially
>>
>>17392618
>What can we expect from WTC5?
I don't know.

After Umineko ,it feels like simultaneously everything is possible and nothing is. You can't go crazier than Umineko. You can't play with metafiction worse than Umineko does.

If Ryukishi wanted to surprise us, I think he should do zero metafiction in WTC 5. But then, what would he do instead?

Also, what would the genre of WTC 5 be? Higurashi is horror. Umineko is mystery.
>>

wasnt wtc 5 an april fools joke? i havent been following it, but i'll reply anyways.

Well, It's pretty much a given that rika/bernkastel/whatever the fuck she is in wtc5 and takano/lamdadelta/whatever the fuck she is in wtc 5 will make have something to do with the story, since wtc in general is arguably based around them.

Obviously, it was real. Even if Higurashi and Umineko are correlated try to think of both as a completely separate story. The kakera in Higurashi was very real and the most important part of the plot, like a prison for the characters, but in Umineko you have the option to decide if it's not.
Don't complicate yourself.

It would be fun, but I think the bullying stuff is kind of overused. I would love for him to do something more common. Maybe a full romance with a more amicable but realistic approach instead of all the edgy stuff he likes to create. I'm curious about how well he could handle such a story without using his old tricks.
Anyway, I just hope the new story takes place near some wilderness area or a beach. There's something about these places that makes everything more real and impactful to me.

Well one thing's for certain. There's going to be some form of child abuse in there somewhere. It wouldn't be Ryukishi otherwise.
>>
>>17397368
Just my wishful thinking. Obviously there's gonna be some creepy stuff to appease that other more creepy part of his fanbase, or to attract more people with shock value. Oh well.
>>
>>17397392
That's not what I was referring to. Ryukishi has a habit of putting child abuse in most if not all of his works to some extent. It's similar to his tendency to go on tangents about stuff like politics, economics, or culture. It's just something he often writes about. And it's not always there to be creepy or for shock value. Rosa and Maria's relationship for example was one of the most realistic depictions of abuse I've seen in fiction.
>>
>>17397424
Sorry, I didn't mean to be harsh, and I think the same as you about Maria and her mother heartbreaking relationship. It just that any kind of cruelty towards children is unbearable for me, makes me somewhat anxious. He's really obsessed with that topic in particular. Also it's not a secret Ryukishi is a lolicon, and excuse me for saying it, but that's makes it more unseting and more difficult to think that he doesn't have some ulterior motives behind, nevermind how well might be depicted. Never
mind, it's boring.
It's doesn't matter since is a part of him I decided to ignore.

I wouldn't really consider him a lolicon. A vast majority of his female characters are grown women with full figures after all. I think he just covers a lot of bases with his character designs.
>>
>>17397606
You guys have said before that he used to draw lolicon or something, someone even posted a few pictures, which it's a shame really because looking at some of the sprites I think his original art style in Higurashi was really cute. Don't really like his style in Umineko for some reason though.
Anyway, forget it.
>>
>>17397542
I really don't think the child bullying/abuse thing is a fetish or something like that.
It's more like something he deeply hates so much that he can't help but showing how awful it is in everything he writes. He always depicts the most horrible, sad and life destroying part of it.
Hell, pretty much an entire arc of Higurashi is about fighting child abuse.

If anything, I should also have mentioned how much he emphasized that in rewrite and harvest festa regarding Lucia.

Ryukishi is concerned about children, but his fetish is definitely the curved ladies.
>>
>>17398217
I'm not that familiar with Rewrite, other than the fact that Ryukishi did one of the routes. Did he continue his usual trend there?
>>
>>17398247
Pretty much, although the highlight with Lucia's route is that it is the most romantic one of the bunch. I was quite surprised because the romance there felt like your usual galge/eroge to the point it could induce diabete as Lucia is a "old tsundere" (meaning she doesn't go back and forth and once she is in here dere side, it is borderline criminal).
Although yeah, the creep mystery stuff is still present for the early part of the route, so there was no way for anyone used to Ryukishi to not recognize him (Key didn't disclose which scenarist wrote which route until few weeks after the game release).

But yeah, breast rubbing mentions and all.

Game at large is pretty good, very not-key like (so people harping KEYAIDS can give it a try), although Ryukishi influence is mostly regarding Lucia and her route. It is mostly Romeo Tanaka and Tonokawa.

All men love big boobs. Most guys I've been somewhat romantically involved with have been obsessed with boobs as well. I just dislike it, that's all. I'm not throwing other implications or going further with the subject. I don't like it, he might like it, I don't care. I dislike a few parts of him, still like him a lot. Let's stop now.

I agree, but he taught me how to enjoy anime girls getting bullied
K1 making Satoko cry over dumb stuff made me smile, and don't get me started on the Erika bullying
It doesn't arouse me or anything and I find the cases where the bullying was not a joke like Higanbana or some Ange segments hard to get through, but he really did open my eyes to the enjoyement of anime girls crying

I actually meant to say about clues and mystery plot related content.

The info and hints are all over the VN, the Manga only either extended the scenes answering explicitly most of the stuff, or actually added new relevant content that further expands what was already determined in the VN.

No worries, all that I'm saying is that, regardless of the tweaks (and bittersweet fanservice, like Ange in Battler's grave) and extensions, the VN provided everything from start to finish.

It's kinda bothering for me when people sound like "the manga has all the rest, as the VN did not"... though that probably wasn't your intention, I think?

Nah, I digress. In any case, I really loved Chiru's manga as a whole, besides preferring the VN approach of leading the reader to discover the answers by themselves.
>>
>>17398755
Yeah, that wasn't my intention. I meant more along the lines of "the manga has some new content and makes the answers easier to understand."

So what's the ZTS track ranking for /seacats/?
After all those years, I'm settling with this:

1) LastEndConductor (absolutely fitting for the last boss and conclusion of the series)
2) Dreamenddischarger (hype train)
3) The executioner (anathema of destruction)
4) Goldenslaughterer (shit has hit the fan)
5) Worldenddominator (Beato in action)
6) Resurectedreplayer (last chance for any reasoning)
7) Miragecoordinator (Mastermind move)
8) Liberatedliberator (Night club party)

Mirage was only effective for episode 3 to me, then it is practically Lambda theme left and right. But I think Liberatedliberator is really the one track that sounds really out of place in umineko.
>>
>>17399243
1)Discolor
>>
>>17399243
My top 5 would be:
1) Dead Angle
2) Death from Stupefaction
3) The Executioner
4) Discolor
5) Haze

Though I really love every single music from zts anyway.
>>
>>17399243
Not gonna lie, I really like his calmer songs way more than the intense ones. They are absolutely full of a delicated emotion I can hardly describe.

Hence, I'll make two top10s, one with my intense favs and another for these just mentioned:

Calm melodies:
1) rain
2) fall
3) far (piano)
4) wingless
5) voiceless
6) apathy
7) witch in gold
8) haze
9) cage
10) worldend

Crazy awesome ones:
1) The Executioner
2) Death from Stupefaction
3) LastEndConductor
4) Dead Angle
5) Miragecoordinator
6) Liberatedliberator
7) Dreamenddischarger
8) Resurrectedreplayer
9) Worldenddominator
10) Goldenslaugherer

Unclassifiable, yet amazing:
X) Discolor

There was no reason for him to have taken it seriously as a twelve year old. He could not have possibly known the situation he was in and he was not at any intentional fault. The people who keep whining about him not remembering usually seem to be either younger YouTube fangirls who only post on immediate emotional response or are deluded in some sjw tier way.

>>17406306
Can't blame him either. He was 12 years old after all. Even if we speculate he was really serious back then, Rudolf's shitty move was far more taxing for Battler anyway.

Sayo was retarded for being so dramatic about it when she could just have given him a call, but Battler was pretty retarded to instantly accept getting cucked by George without saying a single word to Shannon when he finally got back. Even if he didn't remember the promise itself, he definitely remembered having a crush on her. Had he given her the opportunity to properly decide whether to reject him or George, she might not have had to become Beatrice in a last-ditch effort to make him notice her.

>Last time I talked to Mystery anon he said these threads were getting too much monotonous and unnecessary
I don't remember saying that. Then again, it's been a while. I might've said something along the lines about how my mysteries were dominating the threads and I felt bad for those anons who didn't like them or participate in them. I think I said I'd take a small break and only do mysteries on special occasions (Halloween, Christmas, some character's birthday).

Anyway in short, I'm still here, just not all the time. I don't have any particular plans for a mystery at the moment but I'm sure I'll post one some day. And the threads seem to go on fine without them. It's like when people starting posting board games, it just got a bit too much and I think a lengthy break is a good idea.

Wat? Also, don't have screenshot with me butt in tea party of an Umineko from manga gamers Lambda says to Bernd's "I can tell you the solution to the game Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni" to which Lambda cries and says that she didn't finish playing it yet. One thing that confuses me is why does Bern come off as being completely traumatized and broken by what went on in Higurashi even though she seemed pretty chill about the whole thing in Higurashi's epilogue? I mean, she even said she was having fun making scenarios with all the different characters.
>>
>>17397606
Ryukishi absolutely has a fetish for big breasts. In Rose Guns Days, there's a character that has insanely huge breasts. It's honestly that he's great at fetishes while also making all his female characters have perfect bodies without being identical.
>>
>>17398247
Lucia, the character/route he wrote, has the biggest breasts of the cast.
And of course her backstory involves heavy bullying.
>>
>>17412874
Because she was given absolute power to play around with the scenario of Higurashi. Imagine being the main character of your own story and being given debug mode to do whatever. Although fun, you're limited by those parameters and Hanyuu was the one that created you solely to have a friend. So it's very likely that Bernkastel got tired of playing god, resenting not having a happy ending like Rika and went out to destroy all happy endings for others.

>>
>>17413859
I don't mind his rants. I'd rather that than have him just read without sharing any of his thoughts. Besides, he at least seems open to the idea of changing his opinion on characters later on.
>>
>>17413859
He'll probably start to come around to Maria in episode 4, but I agree it will be painful before then. A lot of people have this reaction to Maria. Only reason Narnith didn't is because Maria reminded him of himself.

Beatrice it might take that long too now that I think about it, he is going to be really pissed after the "betrayal' in ep3.

I kinda hope ep3 puts some thorns in his whole Kanon did it theory. Not only is he too close but it's making him see Kanon in that bad light.

>Only reason Narnith didn't is because Maria reminded him of himself.

Narnith always thought before actually talking. He put a great care into understanding the characters, and while he sometimes ranted, it was always good natured.

In comparison, Newt just seems to have a great difficulty understanding basic people traits. I watched his Higurashi videos for my information, and he is almost autistically unable to understand human subtleties. He didn't "get" Satoko in Tatarigoroshi-hen. It's almost comical to watch. He just couldn't understand Satoko and simply gave up after a while.

Umineko has some pretty deep characters with complex interactions, and I think he'll probably get lost somewhere along the way.

Fuandon. Every other Higurashi let's play is crap in comparison, since we didn't get to see Narnith's.

>>17413050
I think Rika is the only flat girl he's ever drawn. All the Higanbana lolis seem to have cute preteen tits like Satoko. Ryukishi definitely has a boob fetish.

>>17413257
The Rika we "play" as in the human world has been trapped for 100 years, but that's only because she can't remember everything. She went through a lot of traumatizing crap that is best forgotten and many repeated events that merge together into one in her memory.

When she temporarily merges with Bernkastel in the meta after each death, she is free from the limits of the human brain and can remember clearly everything she went through, which is A LOT more than 100 years.

For those who know Japanese... I've been trying to learn it for a while so I can read eventually read Higurashi in its original language. I have some questions.

Is it true that the kanji for vagina 膣 (ちつ) is formed by the radicals ⺼ (flesh/meat, radicalized form of 肉), 穴 (hole) and 至 (climax)? Climax flesh hole. Japanese is such a perverted language.

Also, what's the deal with the verb 好き (to like). Why does the kanji use the "woman" and "child" radicals? Does it have something to do with lolis being inherently likable? Seriously, what's the deal with this kanji? Why is a character that basically means "female child" used for that verb?

Second read: The madman actually was telling us the answers from early on. And I guess Yasu had some problems going on in her head. Wait, does ch6. wedding mean that kinzo might have killed his previous wife?

Third read: I love you Erika but please, grow up. Battler was quite a shitty person. I can finally see things from Yasus perspective.

This VN man.

>Ikuko "found" the bottle containing the confession of the Golden Witch in the manga. Sure. By magic I guess?

There's a ton of other small clues littered everywhere. Beatrice effectively died on on that boat along with Battler's memory, but Yasu continued on under another personality. It's the final fuck you mystery of Umineko, one goats such as yourself can't even grasp.

Someday you'll learn to use your brain, anon. Not today though.

Instead of whining about people not experiencing things the way you believe they ought to, you really need to step back and ask yourself whether you aren't being unreasonable.

With a massive, intentionally deceptive work of fiction like Umineko most people will never experience it in the way you think it was intended the first time through, because they'll be unwilling to engage in certain aspects emotionally, have a blind spot for characters that turn out to be more important than they initially seem, or because there's some other incompatibility between their thought process and the one needed to solve the mystery "the right way".

Also, someone who isn't that bright obviously isn't going to come up with any worthwhile theories even if they try, and if two people are doing a let's play together they're obviously going to turn it into more of a fun get-together and use the story primarily as a vehicle for that.

R That’s right… Well the discussion is getting a little out of hand, but in the case of the Umineko anime and PS3 version I did not tell Battler’s voice actor Ono Daisuke or even Shannon’s voice actress Miss Kugimiya the truth. When we did the scene where he said the line „I will come for you on a white horse!“ I said „If he’s killed now, it’s his fault!“ and Mr. Ono replied with a simple „Why that?“ *laugh*.

K Just like Battler. He doesn’t notice his own sin *laugh*.

R That’s why I didn’t tell them anything. But to Miss Ohara who played the role of Beatrice I told the whole truth, so she would know what lies behind her words and so she could base her acting on that knowledge. That is why both Battler and Beatrice deliver such a solid performance. And the reason for not letting Miss Kugimiya know anything, was because the Shannon personality herself was not the culprit.
>>
>>17433562
No. She could have easily smuggled out ton of gold before the event.

>>17433532
We have a little more than that.

Like the fucking name of Ikuko, which is incredibly meaningful. Or the fact that she knew about Yasu before Tohya/Battler knew about it. Or the fact that she, magically, got the confession of the Golden Witch bottle. Or the fact that she is magically young.

So much magic. It is boggling the mind how anons are like 'MAGIC DON'T EXIST FAGGOT' for like 7 episodes and when episode 8 says 'Ikuko is a witch, don't think about it', anons are falling for it.

Between the name, the trolling, the habits, the money, the battler fixation, the too much knowledge, the youth? There is only one human that has all of this.

Fucking goats I swear to jesus christ.

Theory 1: A rich connoisseur of detective novels with a fixation on Battler wrote EP 1/2, died, and then another rich connoisseur of detective novels with the same knowledge as the first rich connoisseur of detective novels and the same fixation wrote EP 3/4 using knowledge she magically summoned from the astral seas.

Theory 2: They're the same person, Jim.

Just a linguistic background thing. They pronounce Beatrice Beyahtoreechay, so of course Beato for them will be pronounced Beyahtoe. For English speakers, we'll probably pronounce it Beeuhtriss and Beetoe/Beeahtoe respectively

It's pronounced Beatoriiche because they use the Italian pronounciation. The English version of Beatrice would be pronounced Beatorisu
