Does anyone have any videos/playlists of Project Diva X gameplay featuring the modules that are supposed to be used for each song (ex. Mrs. Pumpkin with the actual Mrs. Pumpkin module and not Miku wearing some other costume)

It will just change, as always.
Some producers will move on, the new ones will appear. Because of expos, there might be more western fans, but I doubt they will be dedicated enough to make producers care more about them.
The hype will probably decline, but it's far from dying off. It will take more than few years to die off completely.
Unless Crypton will come up with something unexpected so there will be some fresh air in the culture. In any case, everything depends on Miku's popularity. No one can take her place, if she will be forgotten, same thing will happen to all other vocaloids.

It's going to grow and change. It's going to grow by getting more casual fans into Vocaloid. In 10-15 years, Miku will probably become a household name. The ideas of vocal synthesizing software being used in music will slowly become normal; normies will be okay with Miku.

Now with that being said, unless the Vocaloid software itself starts getting better and easier for more people to use, there's probably going to be less producers and less original songs gradually over time. As it is right now, you have to mess around with Vocaloid for a month minimum in order to figure out how to fix phonemes/mix voices/edit GEN and other factors. CFM or some other Vocaloid company needs to start putting out English resources for new producers and most importantly, they need to improve English singing synthesis. Engrish Miku can only go so far, and only die hard Miku fans even bother to use her.

Until the process for making songs becomes easier, Vocaloid culture will plateau. However, this does not mean "vocaloid is dead/going to die". In fact, it's quite the opposite. There will always be amateurs making songs. They might not get popular, they may never see a record deal, but those bedroom producers will always be making beginner songs with Miku/Gumi/IA etc. The culture itself has a had few dips and peaks, but it will never die off. There will always be somebody making Vocaloid music. It's up to you whether you choose to listen to them or not. The next ryo/mitchie-m has to start somewhere.

It's depressing. Been following kous for his whole Vocaloid career and for two years now he hasn't done anything aside from feeding DECO and working with that new girl who doesn't have any talent producing things not even a quarter as good as what he used to do.

Same for ゆよゆっぺ. Story of Hope came out in 2012, can you guys picture it? Almost 4 freaking years since we had the announcement for it, and since then he hasn't done much. I mean sure he did a few good songs here and there but nothing major.

I don't have much hope for the future. I want 2009-2012 back.

I'm an American music producer and would like to make some songs using the Hatsune Miku software. Does anyone have a link to a good crack of the vocaloid software and her voive pack? I wanna try it out before buying it, I promise to do right by her.

But I have to say, if I did have a record player already laying around, I would still love to have some of my favorite albums on vinyl. It just feels nice. I fucking hate the tumblresque comments on vocaloid videos these days, and n00b western song makers are such teen tryhards always attempting to shoe horn mental illness into their lyrics because they're all copying crusherP. Like fuck, if all you can express in your own music is standard anxiety/depression then hurry up and kill yourself. CreeP's music also sounds like if an obese edgelord stepped on an otamatone. CircusP's music is okay, at least his western pop stuff stood out to me, but the lyrics for Last Of Me sound like thinly veiled venting over Circrush.

I hate this too, but what can you expect? Crypton marketed heavily towards teen weebs, understably their best chance to break into the western scene. In japan, vocaloid caught on with musicians who in turn saw a chance to attract audiences with miku's cuteness and popularity. However, most are not actually that interested in miku so much as promoting their own style of music, which lead to more variety in japanese vocaloid genres. Here, it's a bunch of teens with no real musical talent or vision who can only manage edm/trance because it's comparitively easy. And they have no real world experience yet, so all they know is how to be edgy.

I have plenty of music that I discovered on my own and I am constantly discovering, downloading and purchasing additional music and albums every week, so I've had the time to see the entire scene evolve and change ; vocarock was NEVER good, and was always normalfag trash.


There's an old torrent floating around on nyaa with 900 individual tried and true classic songs from the early 2006-2008 vocaloid scene, songs that really encapsulate the essence of Vocaloid and Hatsune Miku. The picture is related, just a snapshot of some of the songs included in it (in romaji unfortunately)


It's absolutely true that there are some amazing vocarock songs such as melt or worlds end dancehall, but the amount of shit far outstrips the good

Agreed there, it's ambient rock, not post rock, my bad. The problem isn't that it's subtle, it's that it lacks structure. It's all swells and repeated riffs. It doesn't commit to a melody, which makes it pleasant listening, but at the same time, very safe and formless. Not the fault of the album, but an inherent weakness of ambient music. Still a very good album, I revised my opinion upon relistening.

At the end of the day, it comes down to personal taste. Sometimes I prefer soft, synthesized melodies with Miku vocals tuned in an ethereal fashion, others I prefer more fast-paced and rough electronic Rin songs. Then on others I will go an listen to some pop, such as PENGUINS PROJECT or Chiquewa, or some deep Vocaloid house like ZANIO or relaxing Miku lounge music like Methusela. That's the beauty and the downside of Vocaloid; it's amazingly varied that its hard to establish similar tastes for many albums that fall out of the rock, metal, jazz genres. Miku, or musical deriatives WITHOUT vocaloids but still from the vocaloid scene (confusing) are each and all special snowflakes, no matter if it's my favorite album or yours.



I've listened to Napitas a lot. To claim it's formless isn't incorrect, it's just that the structure of the songs purposefully kept cloudier than say, classical sheet music for an orchestra. The structure itself is the lack of crescendos, vocals, and high-rises, replaced instead by imaginative and flavorful tones. It's meant to be like floating on a cloud, or slowly sinking to the bottom of a pond. You can't expect a lot of guitar solos, high-pitched miku singing, or actual straight-laced choruses in ambient music. It just goes with the flow, which is understandably why the whole ambient vocaloid genre is a niche within a niche, and its why Napitas didn't get much exposure as an album.

When you have synth vocals in a full mix, it's a major pain in the ass to make the lyrics at least somewhat audible while not making the overall level of the vocals too loud or making the vocals sound very thin or making the whole mix have too much high frequency content, and ultimately you just have to set for some kind of a compromise between these options. When you have human vocals in a full mix, they already sound all right when you set them at the appropriate volume and then it's just a little bit of tweaking to make up for any flaws in the recording and to fit them in the mix well.

How's the 3DS Miku game?

I love the PDF games, but it seems to play pretty differently, and has more to do than just the rhythm game section.

Project Mirai DX is great. The only downside (for me) are the nendoroid style the characters are done in, but you get used to it after a while. There are A LOT of songs, you can play them either in button mode or tap mode with varying levels of difficulty in each, and you can change the characters and the vocals in each song (vocals not in all songs though) so you can really play for a long time without getting bored. As a bonus, Gumi is in it too.

Eh, that's not much of a killer for me; the other game modes look fun, and I'm a sucker for dress-up stuff.

I don't find the button-style gameplay as enjoyable as the PD's. The static track is hard to follow sometimes, and the track also limits the creativity of note placement around the screen. I also think the note patterns in general aren't as creative as PD's, but that's pretty subjective, I guess.

The tap gameplay is a ton of fun, but the looseness of the tap detection means that a single stumble can ruin an entire bar's worth of notes, even if the rest of that bar was on point. You need to play more conservatively if you make a mistake to reset the detection, I've found. No mashing allowed.

Only a handful of songs have the equivalent of "Extreme", which is a bummer if you're the type that enjoys that difficulty.

The songs are all full versions, not necessarily a negative (I'll never forgive them for cutting the BEST PART of From Y to Y in the PD version), but if you're used to the shorter songs in PD, be prepared for the long haul with every song.

Still recommended if you're just hungry for more Vocaloid rhythm games. Despite all my whining, I've clocked 50+ hours into my copy of PDX. It's fun, has a ton of great songs, I enjoy the Nendo style, and it's got Gumi!

I wouldn't put it that way. The most cancerous demographic are the crazy teen fans, and the crazy teen fans love the Kagamines. All fandoms have a few cancerous fans, but that shouldn't stop people from liking stuff.

If Kagamine are the worst, which one is the best? Let's see :

- GUMI fanbase is usually rather shallow, young and tasteless.
- IA fanbase has some pretentious dickheads with a minority of great people.
- Luka fanbase is usually quite mature, if I had to say something negative about it it'd be some weird artists obsessing about her and dumping trash fanart after trash fanart.
- Yukari fans are great all around I think.
- Kagamine fanbase indeed has a lot of cancerous people but they do have some great audiophiles among them too I feel
- Miku is probably too popular to really define the fanbase.
- Other male Vocaloids : trashier than Kagamine.
- Mayu fanbase has mostly mentally ill teenage girls.
- Lily bros are quiet and cool.

- Special mention to UTAU people : usually really trashy and terrible (see : people making terrible UTAUs and being obnoxious about it). Amazing UTAU artists around though, but the fanbase in that regard is very quiet.

Luka and Yukari are both my favorite so I may be biased.

As someone who only really likes project diva tier music, let me tell you my POV.

Gumi fans tend to be either people who were there to use her before miku, or people who want to be a little pretentious about their audio software.

Kaito fans are all fujos. All of them, zero exceptions.

IA is basically just new hotness, so if you were bored of miku and luka, IA is your shiny new toy. Make sure you tell everyone how she's better than anything else.

Luka fans tend to be house music/edm fans, since that's where her voice shines.

You nailed the kagamines, its all the ultra cancerous young teens. Mind you, complimenting rin cosplay has gotten me laid, though I was looking for the party van the whole time.

People who genuinely like miku, as opposed to "i thought she was the only one", tend to be people like me, who just prefer idol-ish pd music.

From my limited experience with a few Kaito fans, Kaito is split evenly among two distinct fanbases: 50/50 fujos or else fans who think "DAE think 2008 was the best time in Vocaloid music?". The latter is better to hang out with, but they start to get grating after awhile.

Okay. To start off with, I'm a big guy. I'm in my mid to late twenties, I have a dad beard and I lift. I'm a little fat, but the first thing you'd notice about me is that I just look big. Basically, I look like the father figure they have issues with.

The key thing is to show up early, to scan the crowd, find a few rins and start narrowing them down. Any of them who came with a Len are out, because they're usually banging that Len. Then I look for ones that I feel nail the cosplay particularly well, as it usually indicates that they're nerdier and thus more vulnerable.

Once I've picked two or three I go up to one and compliment their cosplay. Point out the details. Talk about my favorite rin song, and then let them talk about theirs. The important thing is to seem really friendly, and therefore, safe. Not beta, just not windowless van. Things I'm looking for in the conversation are "does she live in town?" And "does she want to go to some sort of an after party?". The former because it means they aren't expected to travel back to their hometown that night, the latter because party is a nebulous term and they know it. If they're up to party, they're usually quite up to being offered drugs and alcohol.

This process usually narrows it down to one rin and at that point I ask for their number, because "I'm hosting an after party and it would be sweet if they would show up in character". I tell them I will contact them after the concert and so on.

After the concert I try to contact them once, usually "a bunch of us are going out for food and drinks before the party, want to come along?" It puts me on the hook for their food, but it also means I can sling them a crucial three shots of alcohol. This is the tipping point. I have never gotten a rin tipsy and not given her the tip, see.

After that it's a matter of enjoying the rest of the evening, sometimes just walking around the town and enjoying the sights, other times I get lucky and the weather is bad, giving us an excuse to get to shelter. I call a cab to the hotel, and if there's any doubt on her part I let her know I have party favours there. To ease her mind I usually give her 40 bucks for cab fare to leave whenever she wants.

They always, always always take the molly when offered, and from there it's about twenty minutes until the naked rin dancing.

I'm a nice guy though, its an enjoyable night for them, and they are on their way in the morning. I've taken a few of them out for breakfast though I always give a fake name because I'm married and I don't need that shit following me home.
