I think that even expabded it's pretty neat. It seems flat at first glance, but the simple colours manage to give a solid threedimensional feeling. Would be cool to have in a point-and-click-adventure.

Also thanks man. I prepared the melody as a midi beforehand and said midi is based on the lyrics. I wouldn't even think of doing all that stuff in the vocaloid editor; it's a pain in the ass.

I got caught up with idol stuff so I wanted to create something that involved idols and witches. The idol witches collect energy from their fans (like when fans have pen lights for their favorite girls at concerts) and use it for ??? .

I dont really have a story set up, but I just really like the idea. I'm still in the process of designing two more girls with familiars. I'd like to somehow make some kind of game out of it but that's really far in the future and I dont really have a story line either.

Offering suggestion for arm and noticed the stomach. With how she's leaning back I think you'd probably see the stomach rounding out slightly rather than concave. Of course if she's extremely thin then that's probably fine anyways.

The designs are very nice! But I have to agree with the other anon. The only face I like is the middle row witch view. I think part of the problem might be that the iris leaves so much white. It might just be stylistic preference, but I think it's really hard to pull that off.

Ah, thanks. lots of blobs, lots of practice. I don't really know where to start. Picking a itme of day helps. Sunrise/sunset clouds are much more colorful than midday clouds. Nighttime clouds are an interesting thing to try to paint in. Clouds are what I doodle when I have no creative juice to pull from.

It's not that bad anon, you can fix it easily

Just try to make the face curves more rounded at the right places. Don't put too much shading near the eyes (especially at the bottom), it makes them look older.

And when the faces are at an angle move them more to the side they're facing or it looks like the jaw is going back into the neck

Also pay attention to which way both eyes are facing, the 2nd row is fine but the top left look like they're looking in different directions.

I'm getting flashbacks to back when I was a dumbass middle schooler and I wrote shitty Pokemon fanfics. Took a long while before I got to the halfway-decent literary skill that I have now.

I just hope that I'm still into otaku culture by the time my skill gets good enough. I'm not going to be satisfied till I can draw like the best artists on Pixiv. Will I still like weebshit and 2hu a whole decade later?

I'm also wondering about whether I should keep a separate porn and non-porn alias like I do for writing. My own interests are...out-there (as in, frequently too extreme for even /d/) to say the least, and I worry about a reader of, say, one of my comics finding my porn.

To be honest, I probably shouldn't be thinking about this right now. We're talking half a decade into the future at the least before I need to start worrying about this.

This is just how bad art looks in general, even from the Japanese. I don't really understand what makes it that look way from other bad actual Japanese art and bad art not imitating "Japanese style". I might want to use that Light Novel-style for some stories, but otherwise, I really do mean it when I say they're better meant for comics.

To name an example: One of the main stories I have been working is heavily inspired by Touhou, but injected with a ton of shounen-style fighting. It is basically what happens when you make a shounen fighting manga with Touhou as the main inspiration, because I'm a chuuni who unironically loves cheesy anime fights. The setting is also this crazy-as-hell Science Fantasy world that's basically hi-tech Ancient China and Feudal Japan (think Asura's Wrath, but with East Asian aesthetics instead of Indian). It is chuuni to the max. So chuuni it physically hurts. The main difference between other chuunishit is that this one has a bunch of girls in frilly dresses as the main characters and danmaku is used in the fights alongside melee combat.

This is kind of story that really only works in a moving medium. Like, yeah, I can describe people punching each other through mountains and throwing danmaku bullets that rip the terrain into mangled shreds, but it doesn't compare to actually seeing it through the medium of comics. This is a story without much text anyway--fighting manga aren't exactly known for their complex themes.

Hell, it was this exact story that prompted me to sit down and start the arduous road of getting writing skill! A few days ago I tried to write it, and the prose could not compare to the stuff in my head at all. Then I had kind of a meltdown and decided to take up drawing, because I had been putting it off for too long.

(But before that, I probably should work on the character design a little bit. The two MC's are based off of Reimu and Marisa to a fault. I love their designs, but they are just too close to ZUN's famous heroines)

Not really. As I said, it's basically Touhou and Asura's Wrath injected with a kiloton of chuuni shounen cheese.

The Touhou inspiration is evident in the setting, which is based off ancient Japan, and has youkai alongside humans. Most of the characters are girls, and they tend to wear elaborate dresses (due to all the acrobatics they must do, however, there are basically no long skirts and a lot more pants than Touhou). The main characters are a miko and an inventor magician; however, the miko character is the opposite of Reimu in every single way, and the magician character is an alchemist and a cyborg. Danmaku is used often in fights, and it's 2hu like danmaku with elaborate patterns. Incidents are also an actual thing in this setting.

From Asura's Wrath, on the other hand, comes a gigantic jump in power levels: pretty much everyone can blow apart mountains with their hands, and the more powerful characters can DBZ-levels of absurd strength. The setting itself is Science Fantasy with East Asian flair, unlike Gensokyo. There's shit like pagoda-skyscrapers, laser guns that look like Chinese repeating crossbows, robots based off of the famous Terracotta Army, flying battleships, etc. Houses are open-plan with sliding dividers and doors like traditional Japanese houses, but they're made of magitech glass and can be moved through the home's central computing system. At the same time, the world is feudal, split up into provinces ruled by shoguns...who just split them up into han and give them to their daimyou.

Also youkai are these weird kind of supernatural androids/gynoids, as strange as that sounds. Like Touhou youkai, they appear perfectly human (sometimes with nonhumans bits), but underneath their skins lie metal skeletons and bizarre magitech circuitry. I'm debating if gods are the same way; they'll probably be more like statues, with solid bodies that scuff and snap like stone (youkai dent and scratch like metal when you hit them in this setting)

You know, with so much thick lines making a color is really limited. When you look at it you can tell it's really flat and random. Use thinner lines and learn how to place shadows if you want to make good colored drawings.

This one is literally only made of flat colors so not really hard. The shading is the hardest part to learn, and you're still far from being at it. Take references from artists for renders and study shadows.

I was always doing like you with thick lines and flat colors before, pic is a few examples of colored stuffs I can do now. If you want to color it, avoid adding too much lines.

As a rule of thumb for the base skin tone, bump saturation to max and find a hue/lightness to your liking, more towards red/rose, or a very reddish orange if you want a more Asian tone.

It also depends on what kind of renders you want to do. pic is by Modseven who is toptier when it comes to shading, but he's also mostly NSFW and does the weirdest kind of fetishes you'll ever see.

It's more about your general skills. overall anatomy is bad along with lack of volume , lines are chicken scratches, shading is badly done, and face could be much better. drawing the nose like that makes it looks like she's got a big one. And try to avoid putting the eyes in front of the hairs, instead make them half visible.

for the linework, you could try using a full wrist/arm movement for those, it looks like you're zooming in and drawing line by line

it looks like you're trying to chase a certain style, but that aside, you could try shortening the line for the nose by about half, then adding rendering accordingly

mouth is abit too low, try raising it abit

for the body, it seems you're trying to go for a raised shoulder, but its too stiff, makes her look manly

lastly for the clothes,try to add a small gap between the collar and the tie. Don't force folds on the tie, it makes it look bad. And for her top, emphasize on the curves around her torso more, no one is that flat

Well, already talked about the overall drawing render skills (good looking hairs are part of the face appeal after all), of the nose as well. The eyes aren't really attractive either but it would depends of what kind of eyes you would want to do. shading of the face is messy too.

Best way to tell what is wrong would be to compare with a good artist, here is a similar drawing of Reimu by Space Jin. Try to analyze what makes it much better.

Oh, that's fairly easy. Everything's much more expressive and with motion; the bow is poofy and that's nice to look at sometimes, and the image as a whole isn't as held back as mine might look.

I was having trouble with that... I couldn't figure out if I wanted those dumb strands or not, and it was difficult to make the decision.
I don't think the Space Jin picture you posted is necessarily great for something indepth (chickenscratch) but I can certainly see what I need to improve with that.

Well, he does mainly Touhou, he's one of my favorite artists and a great reference, and the drawing you posted reminded me a lot of the first sketch I put as a comparison.

It's just up to you to decide what kind of style you want to go with, also picked SJ because like him your drawing didn't have a moeblob vibe.

I'll be honest, I mostly only known Touhou from him, so his versions of the characters are what I think of first

On the side note, avoid just having one artist as a reference, wouldn't be good to just become a copy and you'll more likely avoid their bad habit.
