Placing word order is hard, I kinda have an idea of where things should go but end up putting some things in the wrong order. I thought you would put the "enough" before the "money"

n 1830, Nathaniel Savory, an American, landed on the island of Chichijima in 1830 and formed the first permanent colony there, along with 29 other people from Hawaii, the continental United States and Europe.[16] The first settlers were Richard Millichamp of Devon, England; Matteo Mazzaro of Ragusa/Dubrovnik, Austrian Empire (now in Croatia); Alden B. Try to differentiate them by how they sound. Then, when you read the kanji, you might have a better chance of not mixing them up. Good luck for 平和 and 和平 though.

「それを最後に五感までもが闇のなかに墜落していった。」

Could それを最後に be translated as "for good", or "for the final time", or are there better translations? Like, is the phrase just meant to strengthen the finality of losing consciousness (all 5 senses going out)? This is the last sentence in the chapter, and the character this happens to wasn't killed.

Any comments on
https://sakubi.neocities.org/ and https://pomax.github.io/nrGrammar/ ?

A few years ago I started on Tae Kim and other online resources but these two seems to be very high quality, Sakubi is obviously more friendly than Pomax's guide but both seem to be written by people with linguistic background

So far I haven't find a direct contradiction between these two but I wonder if someone has strong opinions towards one or the other
>>
>>77852035
That might be it, anon.
平和 is a word I'm well familiarized with because of 平和島, character's surname. My problem is both kyuusei and seikyuu sound generic and these are among the most on-yomis from Japanese. I'll see if I can focus on memorizing one of them and assume the other by exclusion. After one of them becomes familiar enough, I get the other one and it'll sound apart.
>>
>>77852939
First one is shit, don't bother. Never saw this other one, though. Why not use Tae Kim instead?

>Rather than being labelled intransitive or transitive, Japanese verbs are labelled as being 自動詞 or 他動詞 , literally "verb that works on its own" and "verb that works paired with something". Quite often these two verb classifications map to the roles of "intransitive" and "transitive", respectively, but sometimes they don't. For instance, traversal verbs (such as 'walk', 'run', 'fly', 'sail', etc.) are intransitive in English, but are 他動詞 in Japanese:

This from Pomax is wrong. Those movement verbs are not 他動詞, they use a different meaning of を than normal sense used by 他動詞.

Could give some examples in japanese? I feel like transitivity info is so hard to find in japanese dictionaries

Thanks, I feel like I expressed my question in a confusing way. I actually wanted to know examples of japanese verbs which are 自動 on a dictionary but can used like you showed me.

I end up checking 「を」 on Goo Jisho and indeed there are two different entries on the meaning of を when used with 「移動の意を表す動詞」 (motion verbs?) compared to it's meaning of 「対象を表す」

Also another resource seems to explicitly say that when you use a noun that indicates a location, it doesn't make the verb 他動詞

Anyway thanks for you comment, guess I will be more cautious when reading Pomax's guide

I know this is normalfag talk and I apologize for that, but it's important so I hope to get some feedback. I'm 19 after taking a gap year and about to revoke my admission to college, immigrate to Japan, and basically uproot my whole life here.

Do you think it's better to enroll in a 2-year language school and then transfer to a Japanese university for business, or study Econ at an American university (Boston College), keep self-studying Japanese, and look for a job in Japan after one graduates?

Which path would yield better job prospects in Japan, assuming that I'm N1 by the time I graduate undergrad? Which is the smarter decision?

The language school will cost about $20k (not including other expenses), Japanese university around $20k (not including other expenses), Japanese while college here will cost $200k.

I just want to get to Japan as soon as possible, get a part-time job there, and start assimilating, but if the language-school/Japanese university plan is stupid compared to the other plan, please hit me with the truth.
>>
>>77874326

Japanese girls are wife material.
Every Japanese girl I have dated has been very nice, supporting, extremely patient, quiet, gentle, calm, and has went out of their way to make me happy.

Even the girls I didn't like still would try to make me meals and do thoughtful things I told them they didn't have to do.

Having a degree from a school like BC, hands down. Foreign countries place a lot more value on a degree from the US. And you don't have to go to a private school and spend 200k, there are plenty of other good schools in the US that charge a lot less.

Secondly, while uprooting everything and moving to Japan may seem like the end all perfect life choice, have a backup plan. You haven't lived there yet, and you haven't become fluent in the language. To say that shifting your life to Japan as an american would cause some culture shock would be an understatement. Their social interactions are far different than what you've been raised with, and spending your entire life there may be something you decide against in the long run.

None, it's a Japanese letter.

>>77884434
20 per day here, above 90% retention:

90 days below 100 reviews;
300 days below 200 reviews;
450 days below 250 reviews (retention was under 90% at this point).

It's always safe to assume a margin of 10 times your number of daily cards (if your retention is around 90%). You probably won't do Anki long enough for it to go way beyond the 500 days period at this 25 cards a day pace, too, so there's that.

You will add cards while you read and explore the language.
Core doesn't cover enough to be "fluent" even after 10k words.
>>
>>77885238
i understand that. i have a mining deck for adding cards, whereas we were talking about the core hence my confusion.
>>
Is this how its supposed to work?: core introduces a word consisting of multiple new kanji, and then later introduces each individual kanji. I feel like showing them separately first would be more helpful? or am i wrong
>>
>>77885393

>>
>>77885448

There's *going* to be a huge problem. They've fallen below the replacement threshold and their population is going to start collapsing on itself, with no new young people to fill positions as older people retire.
>>
>>77885467
Oh, well, it's not supposed to work the way you are expecting it to work. There might be some versions of the deck you can get that do that, but I honestly doubt it would actually help that much.

If you're worried about this kind of thing with kanji you'd probably be better off doing dedicated kanji study than trying to make core act like that.
>>
>>77885193
When it starts to get too much, yes. I'd recommend reducing 5 cards, waiting 1 week. Still burdensome? 5 more, etc.
If that's too much to plan for, block new cards for 1 week, then set them back up at a lower number (e.g. 15).
But bear in account your goals: how many cards do you think would be an acceptable amount to learn within a year? Can you achieve that with this amount of new cards a day? Can you keep up with a lot of reps, mentally speaking? It might become 2 hours of Anki a day - if you can do it, keep pushing.
If you're going to burn out, slow down. Go slowly, but don't stop. That's key.
>>
Is there a deck that contains the difference between the Core2/6k and the Core10k? In other words, only the cards from the Core10k deck which aren't in the Core2/6k deck for people who started off with 2/6 but wish to do 10k afterwards without having to redo the first 6k cards.

I'm pretty sure it's 白川郷. I went there once and saw some stinky worms and took a picture in a funny hat
