Remember a few years ago when that lad drove the cement lorry at the gates of leinster house?
If you were to pull off an attack like that, except this time actually go through with it and ram the gates and plough into everyone, get out and go on a rampage before being killed yourself.
How would you do it? Weapons? Vehicles?
Where would you target, or maybe WHO would you target?

Theoretically, that principle is sound, because the government won't have anything that can beat it in terms of weight to hand. Some guy did a "Killdozer" in America in the 80s or 90s, and it involved taking a JCB and welding a metal frame of armour around it.
I think he also put cement between the armour plate and the bulldozer itself, which is something the Americans did with the Sherman tanks in WW2 (because they were really badly underpowered vs German tanks). I heard it didn't do much to stop the AP rounds the Germans had though, although the principle of having an open space or a change in substance between one layer of armour and the next defeats "HEAT" shells, which is what the entirety (AFAIK) of the Irish army's anti-tank arsenal consists of.

Generally speaking it'd be difficult to pull off a one-man attack on Leinster House, because once you get out of the truck you're a sitting duck, and easy prey for bullets. You'd probably want one huge, huge vehicle to smash the gates, but you couldn't rely on velocity alone, you would do well with a powerful engine and some kind of demolisihing tool. Then if you were serious and not just looking to go down in a blaze of glory, you would exploit the break in the defences by having more terrorists swarm through the breach and fight as infantry.

Yeah this I agree with mostly. In Dublin city you'd no doubt get shot to bits within 10-15 minutes depending on how central you are. I don't think they could respond as fast as they did in London which was like 3 minutes.
So I wonder if targetting something unconventional outside of the capital would have more success in that regards.

You pull off an attack in Limerick, or even more isolated, portlaois or smaller.
I often think about attacking a different kind of target rather than just the helpless general public and transport system. Surely there are things that when shut down it has major knock on effects to the public? Maybe if you could pollute the water system, but itd probably be too hard to get access.

Unless they've recently got orders and funding top-down from the EU/NWO/NGOs to train and maintain a fully militarised SWAT, most likely to prepare for mass-immigration of Muslims, I'd say if something like that were to occur in Dublin, if it were any distance outside the city centre, south Dublin, or maybe the peripheral shopping centres, (or if there were multiple simultaneous attacks), then there would be dozens of casualties if they weren't stopped by the ballsier, less deracinated population (a la the "I kicked terrorist's balls so hard I broke my foot" incident).
Confusion is probably the biggest threat to the possibility of "containing" a terrorist incident so as to protect public brainwashing. If terrorists attack a fortified position or an obvious "hard target", they're dooming themselves to failure.

>>77804364
Think he's talking about foxes. They're cleverer, cuter, animals, and it's a pussy west brit way of hunting, compared to the manly, skillful way of stalking deer.
Deer can overpopulate fairly easily too (though we're deforested enough that it's not that big of a problem to have a US or even continental style hunting culture (again thanks to the west brits).

Yeah I figured he was talking about those type of hunting lodges, I just thought it was funny.
From a practical point of view I can understand farmers shooting foxes since they're a menace to poultry but these hunters are all upper-class types with no reason other than the sport and honestly I don't agree with hunting for sport unless you're eating it. Heard the club requirements are pricey as shit for those things, just the clothes will cost you hundreds and the membership fees are ridiculous.
Still though, while I like foxes I couldn't justify slaughtering a group of people just because they hunt them. It's not like they're endangered or anything.

Bah. If the government can't think of scenarios a hundred times worse than what 4channers can think up in a minute, this country's fucked either way.
If the country was serious, the military would be experts in guerrilla warfare and have contingencies of all kinds in place for occupation of this country, and the guards wouldn't have to start trying to prepare for a social problem of terrorism that doesn't exist yet and wouldn't seem inevitable if our elites weren't so sickeningly in love with themselves and the idea of being more Anglo-liberal than the English.

Occupation from whom exactly?
Had a discussion similar to this before, with regards to expanding our military significantly. The point of how likely it is to happen along with the fact that we haven't faced any threat or required a real contingency plan in the last century, is fairly valid.
Mental health resources for most of you lot would probably be a better investment in the short term.

Videogames will never be fun again. Watch Crowbcat's YT videos if you want proof.

I still remember the shift from calling them all "computer games" to adopting the US corporation-speak of "video games". Psy-ops by Sony and Microsoft to control the language in favour of consoles. So much of what is considered "cool", even the concept itself, is in order to spur consumption patterns and consumer mindsets.

Fair enough, but what I was going for was more that I feel like I've grown out of vidya for the most part.
Saying only the oldies are good doesn't really translate as well in terms of games because the technology very definitely improves. A lot of games as well either get their potentiality closed off by sequels, or fade into obscurity if they don't get serialised. Morrowind in the memories of people who played it originally is going to be up-to-date and "fresh" in their memories, but someone who plays it after the other games is going to see only the potentiality that led to Skyrim and the qualities present in Skyrim.

>>77805772

>I mean they couldn't stand against Russia by themselves could they?
Germany failed utterly, but Finland used what was available to them to put a good show in. The thing with small vs superpower wars is that you want to win by attrition, expense, and morale, and you have the advantage by default.
The imbalance between modern Ireland and modern England is far less than the imbalance between Finland and Russia at any point.

Besides, the way I see a large, defensive Irish army being used is in being not-used: a threat that would enable the use of Irish black ops in the north, while maintaining enough plausible deniability to make invasion of the mainland a lose-lose for them.

I was with Nintendo first and then Playstation. I gather it was a strong generation for console shooters and western rpgs on 360 but those weren't really my thing. I felt like Steam were probably the big winners in that time period at the expense of home consoles.

>>77806068
I think it felt slower than usual since it was the first time Sony and Microsoft launched their systems in same year while Nintendo were struggling badly to adapt to HD development so there wasn't the usual dynamic of a strong current system making up for the shortfall of new hardware finding its feet.
In general I've been happy with the increased focus on traditional style games over the gimmicks that plagued the last generation like motion control and also Japanese rpg developers seem to be shifting back from handheld to consoles again. There was a time around 2009 when so much of what used to come to consoles was going to DS or PSP instead.
I've probably enjoyed more PS4 games in the last 3 years than the previous generation combined as well though that's personal taste.

>There was a time around 2009 when so much of what used to come to consoles was going to DS or PSP instead.
Have those type of games changed to take advantage of the computer power more, or is it just a change of will releasing the same type of thing on an overpowered machine for the job?
>>
>>77806442
I really wish Nintendo would've just bucked the fuck up and made another Gamecube instead of insisting on yet another gimmick in a desperate attempt to differentiate themselves from Sony and Microsoft with their Frankenshit console/handheld hybrid Switch. Pretty much every corporately manufactured scenario you see play out in their advertising material like people bringing the console to basketball games or house parties never fucking happen.

If you want a handheld Nintendo experience, chances are you've already bought a 3DS and at least one of its hardware revisions since it launched. I don't think anybody asked for something like the Switch

>'only old music is good, today's music is shite' when you're only using the charts as a frame of reference.

Yeah, but to make a video game you need a shit load of funding. Any old group of lads can buy some musical intruments and start a band. Publishers for big budget video games though will only hire dev teams that produce something that panders to the masses.

I know there's indie games but decent ones are few and far between, and the graphics are always gonna be sub par compared to a AAA title. Whereas indie music can be have the same production quality, if not even more than main stream music.

I'd say somewhat. A lot of Japanese developers simply continued making PS2 fidelity games into the last generation but switched them to handhelds, I think they're finally starting to embrace HD development and many are using Unreal Engine 4 which seems to be becoming popular in Japan. All a big step up from the 3DS which is still only 240p

>>77806627
>I really wish Nintendo would've just bucked the fuck up and made another Gamecube
Would have been the dream but I don't think that'll ever happen now, they're in for the gimmicks and local co-op for the long haul now.

I'm surprised the Switch still has a fairly positive reception in the mainstream given the paid online, the mess with voice chat and how so much of its library consists of Wii U ports. Its been getting a bit of a free pass so far.

Their philosophy has been that they can't compete with MS and Sony by power alone so they need something to stand out. The Wii U was their attempt at making another GameCube and it died horribly. Granted that likely more to do with their terrible marketing and most worthwhile games coming out too late into its lifetime.

People always seem to forget the GameCube failed in comparison to the much weaker PS2, the DS beat the much stronger PSP, the 3DS destroyed the stronger Vita and the Wii defeated both PS3 and 360.
While you might not like their gimmicky shit it's been proven the weaker hardware tends to triumph and it suits their philosophy as an entertainment company.

>Pretty much every corporately manufactured scenario you see play out in their advertising material like people bringing the console to basketball games or house parties never fucking happen.
Because it's an ad. They've been ads like that since the 90's. You might as well complain that women on their period tend not to go horse riding or cycling either. It's just to show off the fact that it's portable. Lone man lying in his bed in the dark isn't as effective of an advertisement.

>If you want a handheld Nintendo experience, chances are you've already bought a 3DS and at least one of its hardware revisions since it launched
Which came out over 6 years ago. That's like saying no one would want a DS because they have a GBA. Since there's no sign of a new proper handheld and GameFreak confirming the next proper Pokémon (after USUM) will be on the Switch it's fair to say it's the new handheld.

There's hardly anybody on competitive TF2. Takes forever to get a game.
>>
>>77807184
I'm not fully convinced they see Switch as their "handheld" yet. Their marketing and pricing of Switch has mostly been towards adults while they've pushed the 3DS more recently specifically at kids.
What's going to fill that niche when the 3DS is retired? It'll have to be a new system or a mini cheaper version of the Switch if that's even possible.
Or they could just increase their interest in mobile games which would be the nightmare scenario but also the most profitable one.

I've never played overwatch and I have no intentions of giving blizzard my money.
It looks like an overglorified version of TF2.
I'm a classic TF2 player. It's the original for me, and I've played a lot of it over the years.
The mechanics are solid.

>I'm not fully convinced they see Switch as their "handheld" yet
They're easing it in to see if it takes well. They did the same when they weren't confident how the DS would do, that's why they didn't put it under the Game Boy name.
I don't think it's their handheld yet either, but the positive reception of the Switch might make it theirs soon enough. They're quietly retiring the 3DS at the moment, the New 2DS will be the last iteration, the only games they have lined up are Hey Pikmin, Samus Returns and Pokémon, with the next mainstream Pokémon RPG confirmed a Switch exclusive.

I think if they planned on making another proper handheld they would've announced it already. And at this stage I don't think they would considering it would undermine the Switch.

>Theoretically, that principle is sound, because the government won't have anything that can beat it in terms of weight to hand. Some guy did a "Killdozer" in America in the 80s or 90s, and it involved taking a JCB and welding a metal frame of armour around it.

some guys also just stole a tank from a national guard base and took it for a ride in San Diego back in the 90s

>I only gave the leinster house one as an example because somebody did drive a truck into it.
I think you mean they drove a truck up to it, not into it.

You'd need something fairly fucking heavy to plough through the walls and railings, continue onto the building itself and plough into main building.

Your best bet is just to have a fuck ton of explosives in the back (that aren't liable to detonate on shock) and detonate it once you've broken through the walls. If you did it when the Dáil chamber was in full session, you could easily kill the hundred or two hundred people there.
