Im sure euros learn far more about the war and we learned a lot about it during highschool but Americans were barely involved so of course you dont learn much about it.

WWII had more civilian casualties/atrocities, but the battles weren't as big or as hellish as WWI, the Russian front aside. WWI battles redefined Hell--nothing else in human experience can quite compare. There's large areas of France still contaminated with heavy metals 100 years after the war.

In Australia we tend to emphasise the first over the second though since it was the first proper war we committed troops to and marked an important event in the establishment of a national identity beyond being English in the desert.
It's funny, since WW2 was far more important for Australians, since it was the first and only time Australia was actually at risk of being invaded and also caused the shift away from England and towards America in Australian foreign policy.
