Most of us learn languages just for fun and cultural exchange. 99.9% of japanese language learners never will be in japan, but they can watch anime on original and talk with foreigners. Can you understand this idea?

I learn english for job too, but, for example, I want to know portuguese, spanish and french in future. With high variaty I never will use the languages out of 4chan shitposting, but it really interesting and pretty for brain.

It's just that it's easier to pull of an American accent, without it being extremely obvious that you're not a native speaker. British English have a lot nuances that are aren't as accentuated in American English, thus making it easier to blend in.
