Whenever there is an election anywhere in the world, why is there always footage of nuns voting on TV? I thought it was just an RTÉ thing, but the BBC, Sky News, and France 24 have done it today too for the French election.

>>
>>73967921

Yeah, but realistically she has a chance, unlike Fillion and melenchon
>>
>>73967964
>>73967921

a tenner on macaron will return 16 quid if he wins, a tenner on Le Penne will return just over 40 quid.

Le penne has a good enough chance of winning to make it a reasonable good bet.

I'd put it on melenchon with his 15/1 but that's throwing money away.
>>
>>73967964
Any of them who get to the second have a better chance then Le Pen, she'll do really well if she gets 40% in that next week.
>>
>>73968068

Disagree.

Le Penne and Macaron are the two we can be certain make it to the second round.

Fillion supporters won't vote for Melenchon and Melenchon supporters won't vote for Fillion, so the result will depend on where the Fillion and melechon votes go after they leave.

You can't be sure Fillion supporters will go to Le Penne, nor can you be sure Melechon supporters will go to macaron, as many Melechon supporters are there on the basis of euroskepticism, which would lead them away from Macaron.

Altogether, macaron still almost certainly has it.

>>
>>73968205
>Le Penne and Macaron are the two we can be certain make it to the second round.
Not really, Fillon voters don't have many alternatives so he could be pushed ahead of Marcon and Melenchon if they split their vote evenly, Melenchon could make it if people ditch Hamon for him more than expected.
If one of those two get to the next round Le Pen voters would pick one of them over Marcon and Marcon voters would also pick one of them if he doesn't make it instead of Le Pen, that could the other candidate ahead of Le Pen.
Melenchon supporters are far more likely to go to Le Pen as they have similar economic policies and euroskeptisim and some Fillon supporters who are happy with the status quo will plump for Marcon. If it's Le Pen and Melenchon Fillon voters will be dissillusioned, and if it's Le Pen and Fillon Melenchon voters will give a big boost to Le Pen, her best chance of winning is to get Fillon to squeak ahead of the others. Sadly as you say Marcon will probably win.

>>
>>73968496
That doesn't seem particularly good as they need the Scottish seats to mostly come back to Labour for that to happen, the SNP will probably lose a few but not 30+ seats to Labour. Lib Dems will take a few of the Tory seats in England, and some of these would be in areas where Labour would have to gain to get the outright majority, if it was 7/1 on a coalition led by Labour it would be great but I don't think that's good enough to get an outright majority.

That's not something we should be encouraging anyway, we shouldn't kill the unborn because they're a "burden" on the state to raise them, every kid is going to have a cost to raise them. Reducing benefits would help to a degree too so they don't rely on handouts.

The demand that it be "free, safe, and legal" is a pretty damn popular argument among the Pro Choice crowd.
>>

>so they don't rely on handouts

That's not how it works. The institution of benefits in the first place was the mistake. Once you've done that you cannot get rid of them. You've created a dependant lower class who will then forever vote for who maintains the benefits.

Moreover, these people are to a certain degree fucked without the benefits. Go to some shithole town in Donegal and have a look at it. You remove benefits here, they're not going to get a job, there are no jobs. If there are no jobs and you remove benefits you just get black markets and crime.

>I would argue that there is a point where it not yet a life, but that's my own perspective, and I don't believe it can be used in the argument as It's hard to draw a line from where it ceases to be a ball of cells and a person.
I can understand that, in my perspective I would say from the moment of conception it begins its life, that's why I see the black and white image. I have that too because I can't really agree on an arbitrary date to start its life with no real evidence of when it begins, so it's best to then pick the earliest time possible in my view.

>The distinction must always be arbitrary, and to some extent semantical.
Which is the main reason why I am so opposed to to abortion on demand; I don't understand why it is acceptable to use arbitrary cut-off points during pregnancy before which it is acceptable to kill a potential life for no good reason. Science has not reached a consensus on when exactly life begins (human life in that context is a nebulous term), and until the day that the scientific community can definitively say that "Human life begins in the womb after X weeks and here is definitively why...", I will not budge on my opposition to abortion on demand.
>>
>>73973230

here is nothing in human development to mark it out from any other animal. The distinguishing characteristics of human life only become apparent in the first few years of life. This will always be a moral issue, not a scientific one.

Oh I know that, hence why I never expect the scientific community to make the announcement that would be required for me to change my stance. All very close.
The whole two round thing seems a bit strange. Imagine a scenario where one of the two finalists is involved in a massive scandal between the end of the first round and the voting for the second. If Macron had a scandal La Pen would end up winning, although the majority of people would probably prefer one of the candidates from the first round over La Pen or Macron.

It's not really that close, Fillon has already conceded and expressed support for Macron, as has Hamon, there's a big anyone but Le Pen vote in those blocks, while Le Pen will get most of the Melenchon vote and most of the irrelevant parties' votes. Le Pen will do very well if she finishes above 40%.
Scandals are also used to damage one candidate if it's something that happened in the past, it depends on what vested interests get dirt on one of them and whether they release it or hide it.

That's not even a 2017 meme. It's a shit meme but it's just a bit of fun as Macron literally takes care of his wife's sons, plus single men like frogweeb need to raise the children of the future in France.
>Macron is married to Brigitte Trogneux, who is 24 years older than he and was his teacher in La Providence high school in Amiens. They first met when he was a 15-year-old student in her class, but were only officially a couple once he was 18.
>His parents initially attempted to split the couple by sending him away to Paris to finish the final year of his schooling, as they felt his youth made this relationship inappropriate, but the couple stayed together after he graduated and married in 2007.

>People on Twitter saying how Sky News and the BBC are "fake news" because they are saying Macron came first.
Every news source tries to spin the story to make it look good for their side, the right wing sites as you say are holding onto a very old poll to make it look good for Le Pen, while BBC, Sky News etc. have a bias towards Macron and will try and spin it for him too. The best thing to do is to get a mix of sources or even better the primary source of the information itself and make your own judgement, but most people just want to listen to the sources they like.
Currently Macron is on 23.80% and Le Pen is on 21.70% with about 60 of 107 regions fully counted, however Paris and a few other big cities still have to come in which will probably push Macron a bit further ahead.

>Even then Le Pen will get curb stomped once everybody else starts flocking to Macron when their candidates lose today.
She'll do very well if she gets 40%, I think she'll get about 35%, not everyone will flock to Macron, it's good to see Melenchon not join with Hamon and Fillon and endorse Macron and bash Le Pen, he's been fairly neutral. Even then things are changing, in 2002 Le Pen's dad scraped his arse through to the second round on 16% of the vote due to all the other candidates splitting their vote, but only got 18% against Chirac in the second round, his daughter will do much better than that. If Macron doesn't try and appease this block or do anything about their concerns this might make the FN electable in this position in the future.

The name of the franchise and its mascot characters would be recognisable by most anime fans, but the game itself has a very small Western playerbase and the anime was shit.

They do that with a good few fighting games more just for bugtesting, and as most of those have big international audiences they do release them on other platforms, sometimes they'll add a few extra characters to the newer version. I don't know about other genres though apart from a Pokemon spinoff where you buy disks and put them into the machine and play using those, which can net you more Pokemon disks if you do well, that's never been released outside Japan though due to the disk element.

This is irrelevant to the conversation but seeing as you've mentioned Kantai Collection I'll bring it up. I remember talking to you one late one night about a month ago about the status of KanColle on the site and it being banned almost everywhere, and I mentioned something about possibly making /vg/ thread, but then you said it would be like making a Touhou thread there when it's home is /jp/, so it wouldn't be allowed. That Touhou thread actually exists on /vg/. >>>/vg/174412952
If they can have a general there I don't see why KanColle couldn't unless you attract the shitposters who got it banned in the first place, it could be allowed though.
The other thing I found is a general for a game called Steel Ocean Admiral called /sog/, and in the OP it mentions Kantai Collection is allowed to be discussed and all botes are welcome. This perplexes me considering that /jp/ is basically "Touhou and other Japanese stuff". What purpose could it possibly serve that the threads on /jp/ don't?

Shitposting ultimately got it banned from /a/. It doesn't require a stretch of the imagination to predict that such a thing might happen again on /vg/.

I don't know, it might have popped up in the last few weeks after /qa/ froze when some of /jp/ migrated there, but I don't know, it might have always been there. You're allowed to have occasional threads about Touhou on /v/ anyway, not sure about /a/, but a recurring thread on /vg/ is odd as /jp/ was mostly made for Touhou.
>Those threads look comfy as fuck, albeit very slow. Game looks decent too - reminds me of the old Battlestations games.
I don't know anything much about the game at all, never even heard of it until I saw the thread, it might be used as a front for KanColle as well, they seem to post a lot of images from that anyway. There's some very very weird threads on /vg/ anyway, the TF2 general for example split into one thread there which sometimes talked about the game but it's also a front for another thread on /trash/ which is just a bunch of former tripfags on the /vg/ thread roleplaying and posting furry porn which they used to do on /vg/.

Me too, but not for the same reasons as you. I had a great time in TY - I really took advantage of everything that was offered by our school for the year. But it completely robbed me of my motivation to study when I returned to 5th year, which I definitely consider to be a factor in me becoming depressed around that time. Or maybe it was an early symptom of the depression - who knows?

I used to think fair enough to the liberals that supported, I thought if that's what they want then sure. Then I saw the debate between him and Ted Cruz. It wasn't just that Ted utterly and completely blew him the fuck out of the water, but Bernie made himself look stupid all by himself. He had no figures, no charts, no basis in reality, all he could say was tax the rich and my plan will work. Meanwhile Cruz brought in maps, graphs, figures, and pointed out that if you charged a 100% tax on everyone in the upper class, it would only fund Bernie's plan for 4 months at most. By far the biggest point against him though was when Bernie went mental on this woman who owned a few hair salons. He was under the impression she was some big corporate tycoon for being a business owner even though she pointed out hairdressers don't make a lot of money. It was worth it though for the moment he lost the head at her because she wasn't paying for her employees health insurance, then she told him that she can't even afford health insurance for herself and he couldn't say anything back.

I also don't get why people think it's a good thing he didn't have a job until he was 40. I get that most of his supporters are unemployed college students, but surely that's a bit much. How do you even manage to reach middle age without employment unless you're severely handicapped? This goes past "he's just like us he didn't have a job" to "he's so fucking rich his parents can afford to keep his lifestyle up for half his entire life". Trump could've afforded to be a jobless shit his whole life too, but even he worked.

It would make issues that are more important for people like youth unemployment who are under 30 even less relevant as nobody running for office would have to do anything for that section of the population as they can gain no votes from that section of the population, they can then just ignore them completely.

Sounds like you're trying to construct an electorate who will vote the way you want. It defies all societal logic that a demographic that may have completed 3rd level education, be working full time and potentially have both married and started a family would not yet be granted responsibility to vote. You worry about experience and yet seemingly have no concern about the elderly who vote with zero stake in any sort of medium or long term consequence from their vote.
I guess the citizens assembly outcome has you flustered since you usually post things that are well thought out and justifiable through your own views but this seems especially nonsensical.
>>
The right to vote should only be granted to those who own at least 5 acres of land.

I wasn't actually serious about raising the voting age as it would be pretty undemocratic if you are legally recognised as an adult at 18 but couldn't vote. I just feel detached from a lot of the views on social issues that the majority of people around my age seem to hold, and it can be frustrating to see them so frequently get their way. So yes, this is probably just me being annoyed by the Citizen's Assembly again.

How do deaf people know if someone's in the bathroom? They can knock but they can't hear a response back. It's fine if they're the one on the toilet since the other person could just flash the lightswitch instead of knocking. Most bathrooms have locks but sometimes it's broken or it's one of those people that don't lock the door. And what if there actually is no one in there but the handle got stuck for a second and the deaf or blind person interpreted this as someone being in there and sits around for ages until someone else comes along and tries it. You could just go around the house making sure no one's in there before you try but if your roommates have guests over and they forget to tell you or if you're at someone else's house or if you just really need to go, you won't know.

It would be way worse living with a blind and deaf person as they'd keep walking into the bathroom and giving you a lapdance before they knew you were inside. Of course if they were in there it wouldn't make a difference since you could walk in and out without them knowing, so it'd be awkward to you. I really pity the blind deaf women who have their male roommates spying on them for months without their knowledge. You could set-up a camera in there, not even a webcam hidden in a shampoo bottle type, but a full-on security camera in the corner of the bathroom and her bedroom without her noticing.

If you're that concerned about these possibilities, neutralise the risk by not having sex.

Rape is pretty unavoidable, correct.

Intimacy is part of a healthy relationship and contraception can fail. How about you leave the morals up to the individual to decide?

I, like many people, am uncomfortable with the idea our country permitting the killing of "inconvenient" children.

And it's not like abortion law is a zero sum game anyway - unless you're deeply religious.
>>
>>74021843
I know tonnes of people who's mothers were really young when they had them and chances are they would've been aborted if it was around then. But they weren't and now those people all live happy lives with families and friends. Why should they be robbed of that happiness just because some slut can't keep her pants on? I get that accidents happen but 99.9% of the time it's people being dumb and not taking responsibility.

And I'm arguing from a race point of view. Muslims and Africans have families by the tonne and the only reason we aren't being out bred is because of abortion. Like I previously said,Ireland would become just like England in a matter of 10 years if abortion is legalised. Of course I'm not saying it should be entirely banned, for rape and health risks it should be allowed but just because the child was an accident doesn't give you the right to kill it. Learn to take responsibility in a society that seems to do everything it can to avoid taking responsibility.

Children are capable of independent life, you're confusing them for a clump of cells. An emotive argument lacking reason in science or medicine.
But you are free to have your own moral position, nobody will force an abortion on anyone. I would personally prefer to have autonomy over my own body and not to live in fear that an internal cell fusion could one day take priority over my own life. Thankfully our laws will change to reflect this shortly, it's truly a joy to be alive to see Ireland finally stepping into the modern world.
I respect your moral position grounded in religious faith but to attempt to force that on others to extent of lives ruined, unwanted babies being born and mothers dying is truly cruel and disgusting. Have some compassion for life.
