the grey version is mostly hanged in institutions such as uni/school classrooms, political buildings, etc.

the white version is almost always the one used on the flag

I also prefer the reverse colouring in the asymmetric layout, to distance it further from the monarchy.

It' particularly maddening when you know that Portugal is basically decorated with blue and white, from sidewalks to wall tiles. It's just our colour.
