That's the historical argument, yes, and it's why French was considered as a status symbol in Britain not that long ago, with many people of the higher classes being fluent in French (I believe the Queen might have a good level of French). Moving forward though, it's hard to argue that French is the most relevant language for us to learn. I think the institute for foreign languages lists German as the most important due to the economy of Germany.

I like Poles, but I fail to see how 'teaching' Polish in schools is an idea that will benefit anyone. It's a tough language, which will be taught as an afterthought in the national curriculum that already fails miserably to teach French, Spanish and German. Just like how my friends sister is 'learning' Japanese. Our education systems not only fails to effectively teach languages but actually puts people off from learning them later in life.

That was like me. Except it sucks here because we get zero exposure to second languages growing up. Even french out here is like a whatever type thing and is almost never seen. My French is more decent now, my listening skills are still somewhat mediocre but I think I only need some practice.

There is a rule for that in Korea. If the name of something is 'before' the Xinhai revolution we call it korean way of saying. For example we call '劉備' 유비(Yoo Bi) not Liu Bei or something chinese pronunciation. But for '习近平' we call him 시진핑(Xí Jìnpíng) the same pronunciation as chinese because he is after Xinhai revolution person.

None at the moment. I've been going back and forth with the idea of starting studying a new language but I still can't decide on which one. My options are:
-German (which has always interested me)
-Russian (I find the Cyrillic alphabet and Russian itself to be quite intriguing, specially after discussing about it with a Russian friend of mine)
-Swedish (mostly because of a friend)
-Italian (which would be a continuation of what I learned at high school).

I tried with the German and Swedish courses at Duolingo but I have trouble focusing wiyh online courses (I perform better with fixed schedules and courses than by having my own times). Soon I'll be heading to the University of Buenos Aires so I'll probably enlist in a course in the CUI for any of them.

i can read hiragana and i understand some basic constructions. I know how works their polite/impolite system (it is natural for me to always be aware of status and who is the person i talk to because it is in Polish as well). I know some vocabluary (watching animu for 2 years).

I know cyrilic, basic stuff and sentence construction. Being slav makes me understand more than 2/3, after short time. Yet i probably wouldn't be able to understand some more advenced stuff.

It basicaly russian with words replaced with polish ones. After 15-20 visits in ukrainians' house in my city i have started understanding them twice more with every next visit, my skills with this language are blowing instead of growing.

Never learning this one, but understands it in 95%. Probably the easiest language to learn for poles.

Yep, ukrainian and belarussian are easy to understand when you know cyrilic. From your post i am not sure what means Якщo, but i assume that it is something related to english "how". Rest is fully understandable.
