Read the guide before asking questions.

Special /int/ FAQ:
>What's the point of this thread?
For learners of Japanese to come and ask questions and shitpost with other learners. Japanese people learning English can come too I guess.
>Why is it here?
The mods moved us here and won't let us go anywhere else.
>Why not use the pre-existing Japanese thread?
The cultures are completely different.
>Go back to /a/
We'd like to. Bitch to the mods.

glad this shit thread moved to another board. it no doubt was out of place.

i couldnt like those DJT fags. they just want to speculate about the ways to learn the language, not about the language itself, and were just another fucking lazy anonymounses like those only watching lets play this game videos on YT without playing games but shitting on everything about it. they wont ever be able to make it.
>>
>>68277940
Are you one of those /int/ posters?
>>
>>68277940
How is it out of place, all the language learning threads on 4chan are on /int/. The thread has been more about language learning here than anywhere else, where people insult the people learning as being bloggers because they don't simply talk about manga, anime and VNs.
>>
>>68278029
i dont get what you mean but i post on /int/ for now. i defended them at first but noticed most of them are typical spineless fags who wont even give it a try in japanese. they seem more weaker than /int/ japanese posters

For one side I agree - being able to "blog" on /int/ (a.k.a. mention anything that is not a 2hu's pussy) is cool and if /jp/ sperglords cut it short, I will quit.

On the other hand, DJT is the only serious language learning thread on /int/, a multicultural cesspit of memes where we are slowly losing quorum and can only be replaced by normalfags.

I am a huge weeb and my main medium of consumption is Doujin music - for which my Nippongo knowledge will become very handy. But how the fuck am I supposed to post only about that the entire time?
Even when I did it back in /a/ it was plainly ignored or shunned down, so I'm sure talking about Japanese in general will get me more input when I need it. Forcing learning through "on-topic media" will just hinder me back.
>>
>>68278372
>where we are slowly losing quorum and can only be replaced by normalfags
we need to run them off when they show up here. anyone who talks about taking college classes needs to be shitposted into oblivion as they have been in the past
>>
>>68278151
they wont do it but do circlejerking. i posted some detailed descriptions about the grammars here but none of them gave it a thought. same goes for what other relatively rational japanese posters did

>>68278251
thats all you can do. its crystal clear now that you are far shitter and more bigoted than learners on lang-8
>>
>>68278541
No.
>>
>>68278614
Fuck off.
>>
>>68278614
>some detailed descriptions about the grammars
for example, what descriptions did you post here?
>>
>>68278372
I believe that if reasonable people such as you and me tell the shunners to fuck off and "self-moderate" these people back to /a/, /jp/ and the japaneseスレ, we can make /djt/ all that it was meant to be, an example of what language learning threads are meant to be, and have the other /int/ language threads follow our lead to bring /int/ back from the depths of shitposting. Let's bring back a quality standards, and eventually propose a list the ethics to the mods who then can moderate the crap out of all these language threads. (Rules such as no spoonfeeding info that is in the guide, yet giving the benefit of the doubt that any proper question is never too stupid as to be shat upon, and should be answered as is possible with a decent amount of respect, since language learners come in every form, beginner, intermediate and advanced)
>>
>>68278840
We don't seem to be on the same page. The advantage of /int/ is having no overmoderation which is also a problem when it comes to board culture.
>>
>>68278541
I like this.
>>
>>68278840
Different anon here. That would be a change for the better in my eyes, but you have to understand that what you're proposing here is that we, by ourselves, try to change an entire board's mindset. The rest of /int/ is here because they like its current board culture, and you know what? If they enjoy flag banter and country chatrooms, good for them. I don't, which is why I don't frequent /int/, and I imagine most of you share my opinion, but to /int/ natives that's not undesirable or shitposting, and I don't think we should try (or would be able to) to force our 理想の/int/ onto them.
>>
>>68279073
That's why I posted my example of what the rules of etiquette would be. Let me be clearer with my idea.

The rules of etiquette would be for creating the optimal language learning environment, but not be a safe space or anything as silly or restrictive. These rules would make it so that if someone acts like a shitter, derailing the thread or simply insulting people, we would for the most part report these people and get them banned. These rules are for us, not for the mods, and as such they would only moderate when we mass report these particular people.

If these standards work out, the rules of etiquette could be stickied on /int/ for other language learning threads to follow, again without mod interference unless the people in the threads mass report individuals who obviously are being shitters and not even trying to follow these behavioral rules proposed in the sticky.
>>
>>68279288
Yes I understand, but from what I can see, the flags were disruptive here for the first few days but it quickly subsided. The rest of /int/ which isn't language learning threads can keep doing whatever, what I'm proposing is a rule of etiquette for language learning threads specifically. Flag shitposting could be one of the rules, although it may not even be necessary seeing as /djt/ hasn't been subject to flag shitposting these past few days for the most part.
>>
>>68279624
Fuck off leafy
>>
>>68279624
Exactly my point, DJT is the only actual language learning thread on /int/ and it was forcefully moved here. We can't propose special rules for one thread or force other similarly minded threads to appear out of nowhere.
>>
Why are there two DJT's? Which one is the real one?

>>
>>68279961
We can propose rules as guidelines against what we deem reportable behavior for shitting up language learning, and if these etiquette rules work for us, we can have the mod sticky them for other threads to follow. If the other threads want to follow these guidelines or not is up to them, but maybe some other language learning threads on /int/ are plagued by shitposting and wish to bring a standard of quality so as to be more efficient for the anons wishing to learn.

And heck, if only /djt/ changes for the better but not the rest of /int/, so be it. At least we'll have made /djt/ better than the turd it became on /a/ or the attempted turd present on /jp/ as we speak.

Recommended way to practice pronunciation: ???

Is this accurate?

>>68280377
I don't think it's possible to change /int/, the people here are too used to blogposting and random chatting, they'll never accept any other way. But that's no reason why we have to let DJT turn into that too, it's entirely possible to maintain a high quality general isolated from the rest of the shitty board. That's exactly what all my other generals do, after all.

Just need to make clear the kind of posts we expect here and redirect/report shitposting.

For example, there is a kanji of the left.
That is a kanji has most strokes in the world.
Though no one can read it. That is to say, it is useless.

There is a kanji of the right.
Those kanjis were made by Kithan they are kinds of Mongolians.
Though they are not used in the world today.
Therefore they are useless.

Today's kanji is common between Japan and China.
So it is usefull.
Kanji has a meaning of uniformity.

That is to say, you should not use kanji that other people don't know.

How many new cards should I be studying in anki per day?
Most people say 20 for stuff like Core2K, but since anki has an option to test writing as well as recognition does that mean 20 cards (10 new words, front/back) or 20 new words per day (so instead 40 cards).

Hey djt, lazy quitter here.
I've studied for a year and then kinda threw it all away at one point, that was 2 years ago.
Now, I still watch tons of anime every day and I think my vocal understanding never really deteriorated that much. I still have a good grasp on the grammar and basic vocabulary. Only problem is that I forgot pretty much every kanji and reading I ever got into my brain.
If I were to pick up studying again what would you recommend? Start off with easy manga all over again? Build up a new anki collection? (My old one's gone)
I feel like there's still some progress left I could build on but I'd hate to start at the bottom again because I can't read shit.

Kanji study is not for everyone. I've seen many people spend years on RTK before doing anything else.

Readers can benefit from kanji study, but it's extremely important to limit it, so that it doesn't interfere with your reading.

The best kanji study, IMO, is only "intentionally" studying a kanji if it's in a hard word in something you're reading, and that word keeps coming up.

It's with great regret that I give a selection of good isolated kanji study resources. Please don't learn kanji in isolation unless you cannot learn japanese any other way, and therefore cannot read raw manga.

If you insist on studying kanji in isolation, I highly recommend a particular doraemon-themed kanji study book meant for elementary schoolers. If you can't read simple japanese, use Conning's Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course instead, because it narrowly avoids the worst pitfalls of other common english-language kanji resources.

If you can't handle using a book, try GeneticKanji, Kanjidamage, or Wanikani. Note that WK is a subscription paid service that will cost a bare minimum three digits in USD before you reach a reasonable level in what it's teaching you, and you should avoid it unless you REALLY cannot use a book and REALLY need a spoonfeeding service.

Kanji writing practice is very time consuming and should only be done in low volume, or if you really want to handwrite kanji.

I thought you guys were meming when you said that it was a bad idea to take classes. I've got a friend who's studying Japanese at community college, and he even proclaims it as his major. He's in Japanese 3 or 4 (I can't remember), but he didn't know what 'きっと勝つ' meant.

Four semesters of study and hundreds of dollars in tuition and books for what can be accomplished in six months of self-study.

I would never recommend taking college courses but to its credit it does teach something. It's just that maybe you won't learn those words until later on and it probably wouldn't be that specific phrase.

I don't know, I guess I'm more annoyed that anon was putting down his friend for not knowing something. Maybe he should help him out with his studies if he's going to bother pointing it out at all.

キリストが群衆の1人に『何故石を女に投げているのか』と尋ねると 、
その者が『女は罪人だからだ』と答えた。
それを聞いたキリストが群衆に向かって
『それでは今まで誰も罪を犯したことのない者だけが石を投げよ』と群衆に言った。
群衆は反省して一人、また一人と去っていき、

The sad part is I actually studied, but didn't really care that much about the test, it was just motivation to get my Japanese up to the level where I can converse and live here fine, which it did, passing would be a bonus.

Plus my girlfriend speaks really good english so apart from at work parties or chatting with salarymen at the bar, I don't particularly need much more than I have now.

Still, would've been nice to pass. The hardest was trying to put words in the correct order in the sentance.

>>
>>68295666
Actually reddit is better as a place where people just ask questions. Nobody is going to stick around in an anonymous thread just to help answer the same beginner questions over and over. The only way a thread like this survives on 4chan is if people have discussions outside of direct language questions.

On reddit, on the other hand, people get imaginary points for answering beginners questions and get to be worshipped for googling things and summarizing the chiebukuro post they found.

No, that isn't what I would have said. The reason why talking about yourself is looked down upon is because it makes shitposters like you thrive and make this thread your personal blog.
I don't really mind it in moderation but because it WILL be taken too far it needs to be shot down.

Being anon is a privilege, if you rip that off don't come crying people are calling you a giant faggot for it.

And stop pretending to be other other anons as a way to protect your shattered ego.
>>
>>68295833
>I'm unsure how you would have come to that consensus
Because I've seen people's past behaviors. This is a universal thing, not just /djt/. And the fact that it's so easy to tell who you are means you're a cancerous avatarfag. Even without your pictures it doesn't change your post quality.

Shouldn't you be studying right now? I don't want to hear how hard you're working and how much you sacrifice when you're here posting enough that you have an actual identity now.
>>
>>68295859
The actual problem is you have two seperate communities

You have community A, which is a hive of people learning japanese wanting to socialize with other people learning language. They might NOT want to talk about learning japanese, and might want to talk about study habits, or daily routines and how they are fitting japanese study into their life

then you have the people who want to only talk about learning japanese and literally NOTHING else. I think people that fit into this category don't realize how 4chan culture propogates, because if the thread operated like this nobody would be posting here.
>>
>>68295859
You need to proof read your posts, and maybe consider not doing the thing you're claiming is creates a negative shitflinging atmosphere.

meet w/ a therapist or alternatively learn japanese before asking bad questions
俺 is one thing in very formal situations but 私 and 僕 are both neutral

>>

Even if I quote and unquote "fucked off", you would shitfling the next time someone posted with an avatar and ruin another thread like the thread you ruined just now

The problem would continue to persist each time someone's self-interests entered your safespace.

Apathy is the answer, friend. Let people be themselves, and we can learn japanese together, without boundary and without quarrel, not limited by flags, ideas, or morals.

Remember. All i'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

One thread occasionally having a few posts telling avatarfags to fuck off is better than having the threads be literal shit all the time thanks to avatarfags
>>
>>68296565
>yeah try saying it around here
This thread is composed only by people who use 俺, that's why. If you use 私, they will think that you are a beginner or a faggot. If you use 僕, they will think, as the kanji sugests, that you are a beta faggot. In the end, you are the one that decides which pronoun you want to use.

I use 俺 when I'm speaking in ため口, 僕 when I'm speaking in 敬語 or otherwise being facetiously polite, and 余 or 朕 when I'm being an arrogant shitposter. None of it matters. Stupidest shit ever to have a serious argument about.
>>
>>68296630
That's not true at all, the "only use 俺" was just ironic for the most part. Plenty of DJT regulars (well, back on /a/ that is) admitted in using 僕 and 私 at times as well, myself included.

Besides, unless you're a beginner or ignorant about Japan, you'd know how to use them all depending on the situation and effect you'd like to convey. I'm not attacking you by the way, just adding to the conversation.
>>
>>68296728

All i'm trying to say is that the expectation for a general outside of /a/ is that you don't have a tight moderation anymore.

So if your culture depends on moderation, which it did in /a/, that's fine.

But part of moving /djt/ to another board is you have to adhere to the new board's culture. Lax moderation means if you complain about someone breaking a rule or doing something you don't like, it's going to cause more damage then the actual infraction itself since a moderation is unlikely to take place within a reasonable timeframe

Apathy is the key, and denial is the first step to acceptance.

Well, if you want to insist that speaking politely is something only a subservient person would do then I guess 僕 is subservient. But at that point you're imposing your non-Japanese cultural standards on the Japanese language. AKA being meta and meming in djt.
>>
>>68299530
Pretty much. 僕 = polite, use with people you don't know well or people you have respect for. 俺 = casual, use with your friends or on anonymous imageboards. Anyone who uses the same one all the time is boring.
I'd also use 自分 or 私 when speaking in super formal language, like to the Emperor or something.
