Definitely some improvement in the flow and proportions of your work. I'd unironically suggest you look into figure construction methods to supplement your gestures. Loomis is fine but over hyped; I like his face construction but his full figures are meh. Hogarth is very good but the detail can be oversaturating. I'm not a huge fan of bridgman but a lot of people seem to like his work here so it might be worth a shot. Not particularly instructional, but a good reference book is 'Anatomy for Sculptors'. If you prefer videos, proko's are very good.
I'd also suggest you try out vilpuu's method of figure drawing. His lessons are boring but the techniques are good.
Over all I would say your drawings feel very flat. In some there are some obvious anatomical issues (bottom right for example). I'd almost say that you're symbol drawing some parts; the female figure in the middle at the bottom has a number of odd shapes (around the stomach) that make sense on their own,but in context of the whole drawing don't really match. If you're aiming for cleaner lines (which I suggest), perhaps try challenging yourself to draw without 'redrawing' lines, or if you need to make corrections, use a different colour. This way your mistakes are also highlighted.
Godspeed anon.

Pose is off balance. Hands look weird. She has no neck. Most of the contours are misshapen - the profile of the face and stage right arm. Butt sticks out too far, moving it in to the left would look more realistic. Lighting is not consistent; from the torso I would assume the light is coming from the viewer's left and from the top, but the shadow on her stage left arm and lack of a cast shadow for this arm contridicts this. I'm not hugely into superhero stuff but I would think that her bulletproof arm things fit tightly instead of floating around her wrists.
Howecer I do like the middle back area, it looks very good. It is also recognisably wonder woman. The image converys a story of a battle worn woman who is ready to keep fighting if necessary. I like that she's looking at the viewer, tense and ready for action. Excellent start anon.
>>3082141
pls resize.
Looks good. Recognisably a fly. I don't know a lot about them unfortunately. Your hatching is nice but it might look nice if the lines followed the contours more to convey the form. You're kinda doing this already, on the front right manidble thing.
Sorry I don't have more to say anon, it looks good but I also have a very limited knowledge in the subject area. YGMI.

Her chin is not lined up with the features on her face.
Her left wrist is going in a completly different direction from her arm. Just try to fold your arms like that.
Also her shoulder line is flat and doesn't follow the perspective of the rest of the body.
Are her shoulder pads supposed to be triangles? I can't tell if thats a costume thing or you just gave her square shoulders.

Looks pretty good anon. Try drawing the face, it's one of the main focusses of the image. Your hands look nice. Your lines are quite scratchy - I'd encourage you to try drawing fewer. The first few exercises on draw a box are helpful for this.
>>3082244
Do any of these help? I know I've seen what you're talking about but it's probably from porn.
http://imgur.com/a/QpNDj
>>3082250
This is a good start and conveys the pose pretty well. However there are a few areas that need some work, particularly in accuracy, if that's what you were going for. You can see from the negative space between the legs and also the ab area and the head that you squashed the legs and elongated the torso somewhat. You seem to havce a tendancy to over-simplify shapes, turning most areas into oblongs instead of observing sharp changes in angle in straight lines (like the arm). Outlining shadow shapes and defining contours might be where you should work next.
>>3082254
got a giggle out of this anon. Perspective needs some work and the line wight varies maybe a little too much but the image is very clear.
>>3082256
The above crits might be helpful for you. Without rambling too much There are some issues with negative space. Biggest problem I see is with the bent leg - both feet actually touch the ground. The stage left shoulder is heading in the right direction - a smooth expressive line that captures the movement and the image accurately. Your drawing looks stiff (but then so does the reference image, my bad). Since you're working digitally it might be worth grabbing a large chalk brush and blocking in shapes like that instead of working with lines to see if you find that method preferable.
>>3082311
Hit character limit, continuing:
>>3082280
I'm very surprised that anyone had a shot at the lion, congrats anon. Doesn't look like you were going for 100% accuracy but I like the way this worked out with the geometric shapes. Hopefully you don't find this offensive, but it kind of reminds be of the tree paintings that the monkey in the lionking did - simple, but with personality. I will note that the far forepaw is in an uncomfortable position like he's actually faced toward the viewer. You captured that 'I'm a lion and nothing bothers me' vibe.
>>3082291
Colours are very reminiscent of old flash animations. Has a very washed out and flat feel - I'd suggest you add in some darker values and really push those that get that sweet, sweet contrast in. The face is also somewhat lopsided.

Drawing with shoulder is still a new concept but hopefully, my ellipses look better. I numbered them
For years I have dedicated myself to painting portraits, landscapes and still life, but from very small I have always liked the illustration and comic so I have done many works in the anonymity, as a rest or hobby. This is one of my jobs as a freelance illustrator, although it is a "model" I plan to pass it to a much larger painting. Inspired by St. Julian's artwork.
I would like to know what changes you would make in this drawing.

Practice for focusing on color theory and shading:
Pick two colors. Draw a character or a scene while trying to use entirely, or almost entirely, colors that are only mixes of your two chosen colors.
See how mixing the two colors and getting different in-between hues can simulate lighting effects.
Made this guy with different levels of green and red mixed together.
>>3082557
Do blind drawing. Don't look at what you're drawing or look at it barely at all, stare at the reference, and don't try to draw a face, don't try to draw anything, just think of what you're doing as a series of shades and ratios, don't even consider it a face. If it looks odd or wrong, but it looks like the reference, then don't change it.
>>3083271

By getting more confident and comfortable and proficient with drawing long lines. That's one of the intended outcomes of doing gesture drawing, and contour drawing, especially with figure drawing.
Ideally, every time you put a pen or pencil onto paper (or the digital version), it should be purposeful and have meaning. (you don't have to have 100% success here, it's just a philosophy).
Chicken scratching is timid, and unfocused drawing. Get more comfortable with drawing, and gaining some confidence.

Just break it down to simple form (sphere, cylinder, cones) You can adjust the form as you see fit. Then study the features placement.
When you break it down you'll see that most animals shares the same basic form. Sphere for head protruding cylinder as mouth. Just look at the side profile of other animals. Cats, dogs, horse, cows, giraffe, kangaroo etc... All of these animals head can be simplified with pretty much the same basic form.
As for the body. If you do a lot of figure drawing and know the simplified body construction. That can also be adjusted to fit an animal body.

if you think about it you're taking an image and tasking yourself to reconstruct it with lines and paint. its not just copying. you're literally building it back up. your drawing of a hippo is very weak. just a couple of wispy lines. you got the outline right but we're not here to just make hippo stamps.

I am not the anon that previously replied to your post but I am also having difficulties with the head and the explanations in this video are really useful, check it out
I did the upside down drawing of picassos igor stravinsky. I'm not exactly sure how his right leg got fucked like that, that and his face, but still judge me.
>>3085219
thank you anon
should i get one of these?
found a website that sells them relatively cheap compared to amazon, anyone experience with this website aliexpress ?
What's a good physical or PDF resource for absolute beginners? I can't even draw a straight line so I'd like to get the bare essentials down before I start working on more complex elements. Drawing on the Right Side and Hodgson seem beyond me when I can't even make the simplest shapes.
Draw a box looks good but it's a website and I'd really prefer either a book(I'm willing to pay) or a pdf that teaches beginner stuff.
Your thoughts, ic?
>>3085229
Don't
Aliexpres sales bootlegs, meaning you get fragile, stinky ass shit that won't benefit you in the slightest.
If you want a posing doll get figma archetype next. They're not perfect either but they're cheap and have better design and proportions.
>>3082557
Which angle shot do you guys like more?
>>3085245
bottom one feels more natural to me, but you might want a second opinion on that
>>3085246
I agree with you, and that's great actually because all it took to change them was play around with the Perspective tool in Photoshop.
Never knew it existed, that's crazy useful.

Keys to Drawing
>b-but im really bad
Doesn't matter
>>3085245
The left vanishing point in the top one should be further left, the distance between the two points should be the same in both angles, otherwise the top one looks way more foreshortened, as if it was photographed with a wide-angle lens.
>>3085257
So, everytime I want to do a construction I have to aid out a perfect eye level with accurate VP's and field of view?
How can I just draw a perfect box to construct in it without having to do a gigantic horizon lins with vp in it and running lines back and forth?
What is the correct angle of a box in 45 45 and 30/70?

Keys to drawing by Bert Dodson
Is mass figure drawing the best way to get some muscle memory and then be able to draw from imagination ?
I can't this fucking knee, and the rest.
pls rate.
>>3085308
Spend more time on it. More details
>>3085305
I don't really know much about anatomy so take this with a grain of salt.
Maybe just circle out the knee more then i Think your good
>>3085309
>>3085320
See if you can't watch some videos on values and lightsources. The shadow where the pear and ground meet are difficult to distinguish, and there doesn't seem to be a very clear lightsource.
The stem seems very flat.
Also, the brush you're using has a blur to it. You should clean up your edges. Still, you've got the general concept of lighting going. I think you're at a stage where you could improve at those skills fairly quickly after digesting some tehniques and doing more still-lifes.
>>3082030
Now lend me and eye and tell me what's wrong with this.
I think the curve of the torso (which I suspect is too long) could be more dramatic. I guess I'm having trouble with foreshortening.
Is holding the pencil overhand and retraining muscle memory actually worth it
>>3085320
not nearly 3-dimensional enough. add more depth
>>3085349
Just get comfy and produce results.
>try drawing a rando grill
>she accidentally looks like Emma Watson because I'm bad at drawing

Thoughts so far?
critizism welcome.
For the love of god help
>>3085475
eyes are pretty small
This one is all from imagination, anything broken so far?
>>3085477
i like your muh style, do you have a blog?
not really sure what to do
advise me someone please.
>>3085486
bit tall, length from boobs to the belly button is too long. if you want them to be that tall try getting more of the height in the legs
>>3085500
a good effort. so good on you.
a few things.
you need to familiarize yourself with the 3 equal proportions of the head and how the side planes of
the head and front relate in accordance with the 3 equal proportions.
the best route for this would be to study LOOMIS's head book. there is a reason why that book is shilled on to the point of meme status. dont just skims over it. ream his words and study the plates allot. it will be worth it.
while you are doing this also study the human skull, and familiarise yourself with the landmarks. and see if you can draw it from imagination using the same head lay ins from loomis. it will make everything clear.
whilst also studying this grab HAMPTONS class from CGP. it will help you in understand
the relation of the head and neck and body. the book above and this class compliment each other well.
Thats was my route. good luck
So what's a good progression like? Do I just do 30 second gesture for weeks, then 2 minute gesture for some more weeks, then gesture + drawing anatomically correct figures over it?
>>3085498
Sadly, yes
dynamitedogs.tumblr.com
>>3085533
Imagine someone stayed faithful to gestures for weeks, then constructed only figures for weeks, then focused entirely on anatomy, imagine that guy to have gotten ridiculously good at figure drawing in the span of like three months by doing that, just by stubbornly, yet thoughtfully, grinding the "boring" exercises
If that guy existed, don't you think the Loomis squad would mention him all the time?
Have some variety in the stuff you draw, don't worry about an optimal schedule you won't stick to for more than a two weeks. Do some gestures, try constructing a figure based on a gesture you feel you really nailed, see if you can hit the landmarks; look at a reference, construct a figure, then flesh it out without checking the reference again and see how well you did on the finer anatomy. Mix it up, get radical anon
>>3085534
thanks followed you. I saw you post once on /co/ but could never find you again. really enjoying the stylizion you got.
Party hard people from imagination ;| can i get some crits ?
does the cat-alien-face guy still post?
>>3085562
Thank you anon, you've really bolstered my spirits!
>>3085486
>anything broken so far?
Yes, that thing she's leaning on.
>>3082061
no way dude i love dicks
>>3082064
if you're sketching out your gesture, you're doing it wrong. use like one line for the hole left side of the torso to the foot at the back. this should take like a minute
Forced myself to work on the same drawing for a whole day. And not being afraid to delete big chunks and redoing them.
>>3082241
yo i thought the arm on the left was her leg at first; maybe fuck with the muscles a little or add strands of hair resting on the shoulder to make it look more obviously a shoulder. love your hand pose though
>>3084817
she doesnt look angry so much as a little bit annoyed. look at what angry faces do:
- lower eyelid comes up
- eyebrows push out and more to the middle, in a kind of U formation, but flicking out and being more flat on the outer parts
- nostrils flare
- which makes the nose look more like a V than a normal, relaxed nose
- skin on the bridge scrunches a little bit
- laugh lines might be emphasised (on a cartoon maybe only do this a little bit near the nose on the far side of the face, but it depends on how tense the expression is)
basically all the skin and muscles move toward somewhere between the eyes, which makes people look more threatening by baring teeth opening nostrils, flexing facial muscles, etc.
i guess just think about that and try and stylise at least some of these things into your cartoon to make it more expressive
>>3085596
Eyo man, women have wider pelvis, not torsos. Cool conceopt tho
>>3082582
ref?
>>3085596
arms are too large relative to the body
What can I do to improve these turtles before moving on to painting them?
>>3082927
For you.
ctitique pls
disregard the autism of the pic, would appreciate feedback
>>3085646
Give them ninja weapons.
>>3085658
Right off the top of my head:
>Chicken scratching
It's hard to see exactly where her arms are supposed to be
>Proportion
While the body itself looks alright, her mouth is way too small for her face (as well as down too low) and her neck is entirely non existent
>Perspective
The eye on the right side is too big for where her head is turned. Both eyes would be around the same size
>>3085596
like your style, blog?
>>3085666
better?
the neck is nonexistant because she is laying back.
But I guess is a case of trying to make it look real instead of obeying the reference because ends up looking weird on paper.
thanks senpai. that fucking neck and face have been fucking me up all day.
how about now?
>>3085658
Clean your fucking lines.
>>3085679
is a wip you fucking mongoloid.
I'm asking you to tell me whats wrong because is not done
pinterest models boy 1 here, please rate my portrait and tell me why it's bad
>>3083759
That's cool anon! Do more detail and shading. Work on your highlights. If the light is coming from behind this fishman, then his face and body should become gradually darker as it gets closer to the front of his body.
>>3085670
i consider this quite alright even though it has this foot-fetish vibe some sketches have
>>3085684
not that guy but at the moment its too messy to even tell what is going on. All I can see is a foot and a face
>>3085684
>wip
Kek...
>I'm asking you to tell me whats wrong because is not done
You have shit lines.
Clean it.
>>3085685
The eye on the right is slanted inward and the left eye is much less slanted. You can also tell from the reference that her face is supposed to be longer, and the nose should be a bit more narrow. Add more shading around the nose to fill the form, and add more shading to the right cheek. Your drawing makes her cheek look too flat. Her eyes have no place being that big either. The mouth should be slightly narrower, the lower lip needs more volume, and the curvature of the mouth might need to be adjusted to be less straight. The eyebrows could be more prominent. Think about the shape of the ridge her brows rest upon. They should flow with that form.
Not to be rude either, you're better than me.
Is it "cheating" or counterproductive to draw something, scan it and then use SAI/Photoshop to use it as the base for a digital drawing?
Is there an advantage to starting the drawing digitally, or is it the same?
how do I into clothes physics
I can see shapes in my heads but when I draw characters their clothes just look ridiculous and unnatural, how do I figure out where wrinkles go or how a piece of cloth might fall?
>>3085725
no rules only tools my dude. starting the drawing digitally is just kind of a convenience thing in my opinion
>>3085305
Could still really use some eyes and words on this.
>>3085721
thanks, i was hoping no one would find the reference lmao; i'm gonna try it again today
>>3082103
looks like she is about to fart
