Not posting pictures of my home, but my "battlestation is an entire room - I used dining room tables from ikea for work tables, I have a drafting table, a large wooden standing easel, an area for computer (two laptops, 24HD cintiq, large monitor) and an area for painting, with all of my watercolors, oils, supplies, paper, storage for finished work - in other words, I don't have a "battlestation", i have a studio.

My old mac pro is dying and im on the market for a new compact desktop workstation. I need something small enough to fit in a suitcase or whatever because i move location every 6 months or so. I'm tired of using underpowered laptops that struggle running fucking photoshop. Also id like to be able to game on it.

Get yourself a high end Lenovo chinkpad. They've even got a pretty decent one with a built in Cintiq. Otherwise, if you've got money to literally burn, the new Mac pro is actually a really respectable pre-built. If you don't want another Mac, just look for pre-builts with either an i7 (6700k or 7700k are your best bets), or an AMD Ryzen processor (1800x is best for that, but even the 1600x isn't bad at all)

Stay away from AMD Bulldozer and Intel i5 or lower. If your pre-built has a dedicated graphics card, with one of those processors, it's likely paired with one that's good enough for what you need

I realize I worded that badly it looks like I want to stick with laptops. I'm thinking more of buying a compact desktop tower, something powerful. Whatever I buy i'll probably go for an i7 and a decent graphics card. All the high end gaming towers I see are either the size of a fridge or look like a dumb spaceship with led lights and stuff. Maybe a gaming rig is overkill if I'll mainly be using it for art/video processing.

Also, don't discount a high end Microsoft Surface. The i7 surface book model has a pen display that goes toe to toe with a cintiq, and excellent portability. Not only that, it looks professional as fuck, has the chops to back it up, and the removable base makes it an exceptionally good sketchpad. Something to consider:

I'm trained in color correction. When doing that, you want your environment to be neutral as possible, because ambient light can influence what you're seeing.
Bright blue LEDs are not exactly the best lighting if you're doing any kind of color work.

Extending that - when I'm working on color, I have a 50% grey desktop, and I have Photoshop set for the mid-grey toolbars. Granted, my monitor is calibrated, but even a uncalibrated monitor, if you can see the desktop with your painting app open, that color will influence your eyes - so either have a grey desktop for working, or work full screen with your apps. If you're painting, turn off bright light sources near your monitor - a dim room is best anyway.

It's hard to recommend something without knowing your budget or how small exactly you want your system to be.

If you need something tiny you need an ITX system, which is pricer. If you just want something compact then mATX is fine and doesn't come with a hit to cost.

The one thing I can say for certain is build your own. You get the exact system you need and you save money doing it.

I started with the intuos draw but didn't like the disconnect so i just went out and demo'd the MSP in store and bought the cintiq pro.

I had to RMA it because of a screen defect so i'm back to using a regular tablet and the disconnect doesn't bother me anymore, I still like the cintiq though.

If you're new you really need to learn to draw without using a cintiq before you go touching one of the newest editions. Ive been drawing for nearly two years now and I don't think my work even comes close to validating a cintiq let alone getting one after a month. But then again I am poor.
