Quick question.
I've acquired a cheap guitar, which I'm going to be painting after I've finished laying down the primer.
Before I start, does anyone know of any adverse reactions between oil paints and a Nitrocellulose primer?

Any good tutorials or whatever on drawing tasty looking food?
>>3006114
If you can draw a tendie, you can draw anything.
Your homework: draw 500 tendies
>>3006119
Let's not make another forced meme, man.
>>3006123
I don't know how to tell you this, anon, but tendies have been a meme for a while now.
>>3006129
The first time they made it into /beg/ was in May, wasn't it?
>>3006114
I don't know any tutorials, but what I would recommend is to watch some videos on food photography for commercials - in those they show how they manage to make things like salad or a burger from McDonalds look tasty in advertising.
One popular example is to spray vegetables with olive oil, to make them more glossy.
These videos won't teach you how to draw them, but will help you understand what looks 'tasty' about food.
>>3006138
Tendies are love. Tendies are life. You know how the old masters were obsessed with drawing the Virgin Mary? Tendies are the new Virgin Mary.

>>3006175

>>3006184
Ya just keep drawing the same picture over and over again until you get good at drawing that picture. Then you can move on.

>>3006184
Mate, people just don't get what drawing is about. It's like 70% skill, and only 30% knowledge. You can't read a book or two and suddenly become good, you just do the same shit over and over again until you do it good.

I think it would be pretty useless to talk about how I approach gestures, when Loomis and Hampton wrote a whole book about how they approach them. My teachnique is just what works for me and a combination of bits and pieces from books from the sticky.
Don't draw them too small, so you force yourself to use your elbow and shoulders. Don't use too many lines to draw one.

you drew both of the eyes from the front view
>>3005727
>>3006659
Well, it is indeed. I'd like to get a better understanding of what i did wrong before going on.
>>3006308
there's a lot of inconsistencies regarding the perspective of the nose, ear and browline in relation to the side of the head
i think you're using the construction method incorrectly, reread whatever material you used and really follow through. or just watch the proko head construction vid and use his method
if anything i think you need to establish the side of the head with the axis first so you know the tilt of the head and draw accordingly based of that but idk i'm /beg/ tier too
>>3006650
>>3006536
the form and head looks really flat and stiff, her right arm in particular is super jaring, in order for her arm to be visible like in your picture her body would have to be almost in a side profile angle, as for clothing I feel like it should be wrapping around the body more considering that action she's taking
i can't really put my thoughts into words as well as i'd like but to boil it down the major problem is perspective, practicing gestures would benefit you greatly, and here's a picture to further show what i'm trying to say but idk
>>3006671
Not too bad. Now focus on getting rid of the lines and replacing them with value transitions to help define your form more.
>>3006718

you wont make her any cuter without first improving your tech skill i think.
>>3006749
It looks cute in a huggful way
>>3005946
Your values are wrong for daylight. There would be darker shadows, regardless of what time of day it is - it's something we know instinctually, because it's our environment we see every day. The key to photosrealism is color and value. It's coming off as cartoony/plastic because of your indistinct lighting.
>>3006536
She doesn't have a knee, you have a tube bending at an angle. A knee is a joint, that moves in specific directions, and has a distinct shape.
Her shoulders are completely wrong, as well, and the overall pose is awkward.
>>3006650
The left shoulder is still completely wrong - putting cloth over it only makes it worse.
Clothing takes studying fabric, and how it hangs on the body. In a pose like that, the cloth would be flat and tight against the knee, but because you don't have a knee, the cloth doesn't make sense.
When your underlying structure is flawed, hiding it with cloth doesn't improve it.

>>3006863

>>3006318

Take a closer look at his chin.
>>3006936
Oh, I see it now. Thanks.
>>3005726
I tried to draw it with color first, not outline before hand.
I wanted to place the colors based on their dark-light value and if possible also match the hue, but it sort of went meh.
I went and did a second layer with black pencile to better match everything.
How do you pick the colors?
Ive only ever did drawing with graphite before. The new color axis thingy really make my brain gag.
I really want to start using actual paint (acrylic maybe oil) but it allways look so shitty when the color and paint layer start to come into play.
>>3006941
Oh and sorry for the size, I dont think I can resize that in my phone.
>>3006938
Now compare facial expressions. Yours is much softer. You see how on the photo the lower border of the eyebrow goes slightly below the upper border of the eye? Also look closely at the eye itself, it should be further away from the nose bridge (closer to the ear) which also pulls a corner of the mouth with it, because its end is supposed to be below the iris. In general, just jack off for an hour somewhere, then come back and measure everything again.
>>3006941
You use so many different colours in the same places, that everything gets very muddled. I see what you try to do and the values do come out in places, but I think if you were to work cleaner that it would come out looking better and sharper. It looks like the chickenscratching of applying colours to me.
>>3006805
> the shoulder is wrong
> the knee is not there
Yeah but IN WHICH WAY? HOW are they wrong? Which should be the correct way to have those parts?
it's frustrating to have to insist so much to get some precise correction
what in the balls does it take to understand skin color? theres so many different lighting situations/colors/subtleties that it seems impossible
>>3006947
Holy shit thanks. Fuck they look like different people.
>>3006964
I see what you are saying.
It's sort of a mix of me trying to get a new color by mixing colors (I think it would work better with wet on wet, but it's pencil so it dosn't really work like that, and even then theres too many colors)
and sort of trying to render it better by adding more layers and not erasing, for some reason I really don't like to use eraser. Even though sharpening the light values make a really good and realistic contrast, erasing feels just...meh.
I guess I should buy more different value of pencils, pick only one pencil per 'smudg' and use eraser more (or use the white of the paper)
Thanks anon
>>3007011

Here's an attempt at redline.
>>3007014
In the future try to find as many points of reference as possible before you start.
>>3006172
CONSTRUCTION. seriously dude. An egg shape for the skull. Then double height of it. Half it and you have the eye line, half the lower portion you have the noseline, then halve the lower portion again and you have the bottom of the lips. This is probably not clear in text but you need to watch some videos on youtube about construction, then seriously grind for 365 days straight. Of course you can have a couple days off if you feel like it but just draw head/skulls consistently.
tell me about the line of action
>>3007069
in addition to this: once you got the construction, LOOK carefully at the picture to replicate the same lines you see on it on paper. Spend 90% of your time looking at what you're drawing and put it on paper quickly. What you're drawing now is what you think a face is, so (apart from the lack of construction making it look weird) it will always look like your "generic face", whichever it is in your head.
It's funny that when drawing portraits/people you subconsciously attempt to make them look prettier.
>>3007095
No one likes ugly people.
>>3007069
Construction is just a meme, no real artists use it.
>>3007079
The book Force by Mike Mattesi to me explains very well what the line of action is
>>3006865
Basically it just means that your work is unrefined/unfinished. Your thumbnails read well, but you haven't completely finished rendering and your work just looks sloppy when blown up
>>3007150
They do, they just don't have to lay it down on paper anymore. It's like at first when you learn how to write you are writing in those (pic related) to know the angle and height of letters.

Is it worth it to, for better or worse, put time into making a finished piece? I've been practicing as much as I can, but It's mostly amounting to throwaway studies. After all this time, I don't have anything I can call "mine".

Oh, hey there, long time no see. How are your heads doing, did you learn the trick to them?
Anyway, to see what's wrong with your hands, copy each gesture with your own. Move your head to see your hand from the intended angle. Pay very close attention to where each phalanx of a digit goes (the angle, I mean). Look at the connection of the arm as well.

With the way you drew them, there's not much else to comment on, but one can definitely see the unnaturalness in digits. You see, they are so closely packed together under the skin that a movement of one might easily cause movement of the others or restrict their movement.

>do artists literally have every inch of anatomy memorized?
Not exactly every inch, but they memorize the forms bit by bit.
What I do is break down the body into three parts: the shoulders, the abdomen/chest area, and the hips.
With this base, I can add on the neck and the legs.
I would focus on the head in more detail. Things like the distance between the ears, the angle of the eyes, stop, and muzzle proportions are very important.
Use triangles to help you plan the facial features.
Oh god kill me twice. I'm afraid to spend more than five minutes on any drawing, it only gets worse. How to stop feeling so bad about your drawings?

I like horses. I feel horrible drawing them.
>>3007468
aah... thanks.
>>3007542
dehumanise yourself and face to grind
>>3007542
Spend more time on it. You'll see your mistakes more clearly. After that it's just working on how to fix it.
>>3007558
You mean like I shouldn't feel sorry for every small mob I killed or I'm taking the word "grinding" too serious?
>>3007562
increase your fundamental skill
throw yourself absolutely at the grind
with the hours and the effort
only then will your lack of quality become just about bearable.
>>3007255
no one answered :^(
>>3007542
You need to break yourself. Kill what you love inside of you. Become empty and hollow to work your way back but with the skills you attained via killing your love. I speak from first-hand experience, though I only finally managed to break myself.
>>3007570
i would say avoid this.
you must keep the love and you must endure its burn
instead only realise that the path to your love lies in the grind.
>>3007542
Sharpen your pencil, draw bigger
>watch Bob Ross on twitch

>that sounds way better than suicidal thoughts
>blow the last of my money on painting supplies

Anything to make this look better?

I actually quite like the pose and the perspective going on is not too bad either.
>>3007617

other than that it's looking good.
>>3007594
it's your fault for spending all your money on a hobby you're not good at
I am mentally ill /ic/. even my psychologist can't figure out how to pin point my problems.
one of them might be bad anatomy
what's a good program to use for digital work?
>>3007594
post your work, i'm curious to see what Bob Ross inspired paintings look like when theyre infused with desperation and rage
>>3005727
Mage drawing here. Please critique.
>>3007654
conveniently turning the staff symbol so it faces the camera
>>3007657
Yes she is. It's for the picture.
>>3007659
you expect us to believe they have cameras in this magical fantasy world of yours?

>>3007667
How do I fix them?
Can I have some tips about painting with acrylics?
I'm struggling with blending.

She's actually at a cosplay convention
>>3007669
whoops, forgot to resize.
>>3007668
first off it looks like you made the arms manlet sized in order for it to fit the axe handle on the page, i think that's where the underlying problem is
>>3007668
they are too smol for the big guy
why do my rough sketches always look better than the finished product

>>3007684
can you tell me what I should fix?
>>3007681
you know ittt
>>3007686
the tits on the skinny lady look too far apart, looks like you're trying to force it to match the tits of the fat lady
it might look better if you played with the perspective more instead of the camera just facing straight on
the skin looks like clay, it would look more interesting if you gave it a good light source
>>3007691
Thanks, I'll try to fix those things, I'm still just doing the shadows, then I'll do light and other misc. colors on a layer above it
How late is too late to start drawing?

When it's after 2am.

You have 2 days.
How do you get good linework in photoshop without a cintique?

>>3005957
just start you pleb. Also I don't understand what the problem is. Have you tried grayscale? It sounds like you're trying to color but you're interested in grayscale. So stop coloring and try grayscale?? Use reference, do exercises, google some shit, and have fun with it.
>>3006313
>>3006289
Read a science fiction comic or something. And then start with blobs/generic ideas that originate from the material you consume. It sorta looks like you're trying to draw from a vacuum. Your background is empty, your characters very undetailed. I face this problem all the time, too. Consume some art and then try drawing after that.
>>3007588
Is THAT not sharp enough?
>>3005727
I'm frustrated, I've been at it all day but I can't get something even close to acceptable, eyes are way off, looking lopsided, nose is weird, jaw is always off, mouth looks weird. I've been practicing basic exercises for weeks and tried using construction on it but it still comes out as symbols..
>>3008012
After a few hours I traced over it and compared and then tried again and still don't have it.
>>3006531
Center of gravity feels off. I would move shoulders to the right and hips to the left.
>>3006729
Stop relying only on atmospheric perspective.
Do something harder.
>>3007309
that's a small hand/big foot
>>3007672
Your cast shadow looks off. If I get light direction by looking at your terminator it seems the cast shadow should be larger. Did you project it properly? I'm assuming you are working with sunlight because of no visible gradation at the ground plane.
>>3007728
>falling for loomis meme
Loomis is terrible for absolute beginner.
Critics please.
>>3008048
Huh, it really is off. Thanks for pointing that out! I'll be more careful in the future.

Wip aka quitting now.
Critique much apreciated.

I like it alot, anon. What's your method? Do you measure the angels or lengths or anything like that? Do you start with a large shape then fill in the smaller ones or do you start with one and build around it? It sort of reminds me of a fractal.
>>3007951
Nope. It could be sharper
made an album cover

did more to this
