What is the best book on perspective to compliment pic related? I started Robertson and it's a little daunting with all these grids. Do good artists always use grids for constructions just like him? I always thought it's drawn freehand, but if grids are the way to go I'll stick with them I guess.
>>
Yeah, good artists always use grids. They don't redraw them though.
>>
Every single lesson over at www.drawabox.com
>>
>>2903562
The only perspective lesson you'll ever need:

Draw a perspective grid if you need some guide lines. Size your objects relative to that grid.

I don't understand how this is a complicated thing that can take up an entire book? Especially in our day of age with 3D computer software which people are familiar with through entertainment.

fuck off dipshit; perspective made easy barely scratches the surface
>>
>>2904425
you should just give up now. If you need a book to help you with that then you got no talent for drawing. And probably not math either.
>>
>>2904438
No, you need competition.
>>
>>2904448
This is true, without competition, you will not get anywhere. Even if this is competition between your past self or your future self. Some people even dare challenge the Gods themselves as well as nature.

It's obvious to anyone who knows what the fuck you're going you're just some lazy fag who can't bring himself to study Perspecive and wishes to drag everyone who tries down with him.

Fucking. Pathetic.
>>
>>2904457
You, i like you.
>>

You can learn to understand design and anatomy. Train your skill in lines. But something like perspective should come natural to you. You should not be surprised that a house far away is smaller than the same house up close. At no point should you be in a situation where you look at something not in perspective and wonder how to fix it. If your drawing is shit then there is likely something wrong with it besides perspective. Fix everything else and perspective comes naturally.

I'm honestly convinced that any books like that one in the OP is nothing but a scam. Sold to people too lazy to do proper studies and who is looking for a shortcut and buys the idea that perhaps what they were missing were complicating something fucking simple.
>>
>>2904484
Some people aren't talented like us, anon. They were born stupid and unable to understand perspective and drawing 3D shapes for some reason.
>>
>>2904484

Looks like it, but you're wrong. Seems to me like you just read the first 5 pages of book in the OP and decided you were too good for it.

>>
>>2904484
I'm very wary of shitheads like you who sound convincing in writing but don't have the technical ability to back up your "art" of deceiving others. I've had run-ins from people like you in the past--probably the same guy who likes to trick people on this board on a daily basis.

Anyway I have a high enough IQ to know try and learn everything I can on subjects I'm interested in. Do a good enough job with notetaking and you can reteach the information for sheckles, a skill very few people have (hint).
>>
>>2904494

I want to see what the work of someone with innate talent, who's got no need for studying perspective, looks like.
>>
>>2904484
You could replace perspective with literally any other fundamental.

"You can learn to understand perspective and anatomy. Train your skill in aesthetics. But something like design should come natural to you."

You can learn anything without reading a book. You're full of shit and don't understand what you're spouting.
>>
>>2904497
I'll pretend you are serious at the off chance that you are.

too bad we on 4chan and posting your work just invites shitposting. I don't even need to post my own but could put something flawless and if somebody here don't recognize it they would try to tear it apart.

If you really want somebody to post their work then you can post your own and I can see if it convince me that I'm wrong.

>>2904495
You seem a bit paranoid. Obviously you can earn money trying to teach this shit. The book in the OP is an example of that. But the thing about studying is that it's not a matter of quantity. If you keep pounding the wrong shit then you'll be stuck for years.

Have never said that. That's how you build up all your crying on your own lie. I said that it's simple once you have the other stuff sorted out. So simple that you don't need a book dedicated to the subject. Odds are that your drawing suck for a lot of other reasons and your bodies are probably not even symmetrical beyond basic anatomy and that's why your perspective is off.

Truth is, any proper art school will teach you Perspective from the very beginning, and will have you grinding grids till you fucking get it, because it is the core skill where all other fundamentals depend on for artwork to read properly. The only people who oppose the knowledge that has revolutionized art are those who are too ignorant, or too lazy to learn.

That doesn't mean anything. Old paintings were symbolic in nature for a lot of reasons. Just because something got popular during the 14th century and standardized it doesn't mean that people are unable to figure it out on their own.

Let's see, I "found" /ic/ in mid 2013 when I discovered art is something I can do for a living. At that time there was no sticky (until later in the year) so I lurked for a while and someone named dropped cgpeers.

So I downloaded a bunch of tutorials yadayada but didn't know where to start until the sticky was made so I followed the sticky...for a while...2014 I was literal /beg/ tier besides crappy high school anime drawings.

And from looking in the archives we were arguing about perspective, apparently this was the time new masters academy had a perspective lesson out and I tried following it for a while.

In summary I was shit in 2013, 2014, 2015 I got progress 2016 I joined las and saw tremendous improvement and 2017 well...I just wish I tried harder is all. Too much time spent here.

>>
>>2904925
the thing about journeys is that they tend to end where you started. I hope for you that you can at least draw things in perspective without needing a perspective grid now.
>>
>>2904928

The thing about grids is like they are cups. Unless you are a magician and can levitate juice into thin-air directly into your mouth, there is no harm setting up a quick grid. It doesn't have to be an accurate grid, but a cup doesn't have to be a plastic cup or a styrofoam cup or your moms mouth.
>>
>>2904928

Not him, but even Feng Zhu uses perspective grids. They are tools that speed up your design process and it takes guessing out of the equation.

Only a fool would ignore them.

Of course everyone knows that an object far away is smaller than an object in the foreground, you dont need to grind a perspective book for that. The thing is, there's more to it than that. How long exactly is that foreshortened arm gonna be? How much of an area do I see before things get distorted? I think it's a matter of talent to take the right guesses. But you cant guess every single line and how they interact to each other in every single scenario. Youve got to master perspective if you want to draw more complicated scenery. Dont grind those books if you think youre good enough. Sad thing is, you'll stay in your comfort zone forever, because you only draw what seems natural for you

>>

Last sentence clearly reveals your poor understanding of perspective.

As for perspective in general, study moebius and the generations of artists his legacy has spawned, including terada, otomo and kim.
>>
>>2903562
I started with Norling and it was ok but I didnt understand last chapter on plan drawing so I picked up Perspective - A Guide for Artists, Architects and Designers by Gwen White which picked up right at the planning and seems to follow more technical approach which I thin its good.
You need to know all kind of stuff.

In the meantime I torrented Marshal Vandruff's vids on perspective and while beginning was mostly stuff I knew with a few tricks, last few lessons cleared some stuff from Norlings book I didnt understand clearly and shown few ways to get spacing in distance in a way that wasnt mentioned in Norlings book and are plain awesome.

Now I plain to continue Gwen Whites book and pick up Perspective Drawing Handbook - By Joseph D'Amelio, those books are mostly pictures so its pretty much manga tier.
You can read manga and english is you native you gonna burst trough them fast.
Each book somewhere mentions things the other book omited or clears up some concept so I suggest read a few and might start in same order I did or even from Marshals vids.
