Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

Drawing right now isnt very rewarding for me since im not very good at drawing so i figured i would improve more if i could reward myself for practicing. I went shopping earlier today and bought a ton of snacks and i could eat one for every hour of practice i did. I ate everything before i even began practice and now im too full to draw. Has anyone tried implementing a reward system like this? How do you stop yourself from eating everything?

The best way to stop yourself from eating big amounts of sugars, is to not buy them in the first place. You cannot eat what's not there. I think meditating and facing your boredom head on is going to be more beneficial to you. In fact, heading straight on for the stuff you don't want to do and forcing yourself to do will spike your adrenaline and dopamine levels, making you want to stay once you actually begin.

There's no easy cheats for this, you gotta grind like you mean it, even if you don't like it at first.

As a beginner (not complete beginner, I finished Loomis and a bit of anatomy and I do the drawabox exercises daily) Would I benefit more from doing many quick life drawing sketches / gesture drawings or doing only a few but doing them very thoroughly? Any advice for hair? I'm currently drawing the hair as if there were no light source and then using an eraser to lighten where the light hits. Lips are also challenging.

Every time you betray yourself, you lose motivation and self control. Great masters are made through pain and sacrifice, not comfort and avoidance. If you draw today, even when you've given yourself excuses, you'll give yourself a very good boost to your morale and self esteem, which will commence a series of positive behaviors in you that'll cause you to acquire momentum and put in even more effort and time into this, sort of like a rolling ball going downhill.
It's your call, but take this seriously.

Excuse, I want citations for what the other person claimed, not to get involved in another, separate argument for the lolz. Alright 5 minute gesture drawings on tablet, a perspective exercise and a drawing done on paper, all still horrible. What would be the most efficient way for me to improve?
>>
>>2885874
It's coming along nicely. You could if you want to push your darks more. It'll make the picture look nicer. The back for example is almost all black on the right side and there are plane changes in the middle and left side of the back. On yours, you can't really tell the definition of the back.

The face is not quite accurate. You resorted back to symbol drawing on the eyes, nose and lips. Remember to pay attention to the changes in shading. Above and underneath the eye you have core shadow because it's facing away from the light. The eyelid is slightly being hit by light. The bottom line of the eye has rim light.

The angle of the nose and forehead are not correct. The nose should protrude out more. The shadows are also not accurate. The lip needs to be cleaned up and have a cast shadow underneath., but the shape looks correct to me. The upper lip is mid tone, the inside of the mouth is a darker tone, the lower lip is in light and as it turns away from the light it gets darker. The face can also be darkened some.

I think that's it. You did the ear really well. The hair, you just gotta push the darks more and it will look better. There's a lot of black there that you can put in.

Also, resize a bit next time so that your picture will be easier to look at as a whole.

Well, I had copied some skulls last month and anons told me they were good enough. I also made a reverse drawing of that image with the long neck, and it turned out pretty true to the original. As a result, I got overly confident. After completing (painting over) the portrait, I looked at the references again and suddenly realized something very important about the relative positions of eyes and nose, which I totally missed.

This is the ''Draw through'' method. The techniques necessary to begin developing a grasp on how to to them can be learned from Scott Robertson's How To draw book, in addition, his DVD named ''Basics of Drawing'' also deals with this subject. Maybe you'll be interested to know that FZD students are made to do this type of practice quite a few times to perfection so they internalize it and can later, sketch 3D shapes without much issue free-hand.
>>
>>2886188
What have you learn so far through doing it?
>>
>>2886189

I have acquired a much better understanding of how to draw complex 3D shapes in perspective without reference, how to do measures and find where stuff should be at size and angle wise as it recedes further into space. It's slowly, but surely making me have an easier time visualizing 3D shapes in my mind and it's making studying other subjects such as light be much easier, as I can now attempt to dictate a light source and find with accuracy where the cast shadow and the different gradations of tone would be located. The more I practice, the more I internalize it and the less I need to depend on the slow, and pain-staking process of being autistically accurate as my guesses become more educated.

This is the basis for design, once you can move around 3D space in a 2D canvas without much issue, the rest is sketching like a madman and learning about the world and how it works so you can build a visual library and start designing your own stuff.

Easy, buy the sweets as a reward for doing practice and not the other way around. What I do each night is that if I do at least 4 hours of practice I get to play overwatch and earn a loot-box. It has worked pretty good so far.
>>
>>2886229
I would just sit in front of paper for four hours and then call it a night probably without even drawing.
>>
>>2886189
>>2886196

Also, I want to add that for every subject I construct I gather very valuable information about it, how it's put together, how it functions and why. This is great for being able to create stuff from imagination as it will be nurtured by ideas based off reality.

Mhm, I did a shitty M1 Abraham and it took me around 5 hours and I didn't finish it completely. Afterwards I did a Mantis and it took considerably less, around 2 hours but it still had errors. But it beats the 14 hours I spent doing a lighter (first construction drawing) that I didn't even manage to finish. The more I do them, the easier it becomes, but if you want it all to be extremely accurate, it's definitely time consuming and tedious. I wouldn't be surprised if I spent more than 30 hours doing one of the more complex projects FZD students do, like the big temples. I am planning on buying a bunch of copic markets, a felt tip pen and a toned paper sketchbook, then go out and sketch as much as possible. I have a long way to go.

But well, putting in the sweat into this sort of exercises pays off, so it's worth it.

>Not really though. I just want to be myself. Art is like a medium for me to be able to express and evoke emotion that I've always wanted. How big are the size of these construction drawings? Since you seem to crop the page, perhaps a hand size? I do wonder. All those hours put into drawing must really be worth it when you finish and look at the result that you put all your heart and soul into crafting onto paper. We all have a long way to go, but I hope we continue to be able to have some fun during this journey. It gets lonely sometimes, however with everyone else, maybe it won't be. Since it's a world where we can share together our progress and help each other out. Thanks for good luck. I'll make sure to cherish it forever. I hope you will forever continue to draw and be able to show me what you've always been working towards. I'm really curious as to what it could be and what kind of adventure you will have had by then and be able to share with me and many others.

I've been spamming this Draw through method stuff for a bit these past two weeks, hoping that someone would attempt do learn them. Nah not nearly enough. Don't worry though. Just keep drawing and you'll get over that fear. For your next drawings, play around with the shading and try to go as dark as you can with your pencil. If you mess it up, it's no big deal.

The drawing will really pop more if you darken those values.

Keys to Drawing

Really, seeing how rough and forced your lines and strokes, shows how you've never even bothered to study the book.

There are other "how to draw what you see" books out there, but Keys to Drawing is generally recommended.

Those books for the most part teaches you how to be comfortable with your own drawing. You'll find it easier to form a shape, draw lines, confidently.

Finish the book. Really study it, apply the teachings, and you're good. You can set the pacing afterwards, go slow or fast.

It's the best beginner book. It actually teaches you how draw, literally.

Don't skip it and jump straight to Loomis or Bridgman whatever. You may study them alongside, but focus on Keys to Drawing first.

Let's explore the heights of my retardness.
Is there anything that's okay with the left portrait, and does the right one look correct enough?
>>
>>2886536
Oh that? That's just a combination of having done it before, taking some time to think and plan our lines so they go where we want them, and luck. It's mainly experience though. Once you've drawn enough, you typically know how it'll be even if you placed it in extreme perspective. I guess if I had to explain it another way. We already have the rough image in our head that gets clearer as we go?
>>
>>2886528
That's the difference between a beginner and someone that's drawn for decades.
>>
>>2886537
Nothing jumps out at me except that hair, it looks painted on and has no volume.
>>
>>2886040
Sorry for the late reply. So I'll go with perspective made easy+hampton. Thanks.
>>
>>2886546
Well, yeah, I didn't even try to apply any effort to the hair. For now, I'm going to draw a simple portrait each day with the sole purpose of understanding the positions of each element in this angle. Doesn't the left face strike you as retarded? I feel like it looks really wrong somehow.

While your self-assessment isn't wrong, your piece has larger issues that need to be fixed first.
1.First, look at how much darker the photo is than your piece. Squinting will help you see the general disparities.
2. See how the water AND the sky in the photo fade as you get closer to the horizon? This is really easy to imitate with watercolor and will help to create depth.
I would suggest creating 2 practice pieces that only have the sky, ground, and dark horizon of trees. Make the first much darker than the photo to break your habit of painting way to lightly. Make the second as close to the photo as possible.
The water will have a bit of purple in it.
Do these 2 things and like 80% of the area of your painting will look great.

Perspective wise there's a couple of wonky ones; at the bottom of your image and the one on the far right. Unappealing or unaesthetic would be more appropiate.
Seriously, work on your faces, they're not anime style, I love manga and I read it everyday and I'm telling you they're seriously off.

can you post a before after picture of your drawings?

It's not a pleasing anime face. Study manga faces like you studied the body if that's what you're going for.

Make the face more 3dimensional and give it more realistic proportions, even if the eyes are bigger than normal keep them inside the skull and the mouth should only be slightly bigger than the nose. Show some forehead and place the eyes lower.

Look at artists who do something similar, that is realistic but stylized proportions. Their face proportions still are close to loomis, while the eyes are bigger they don't exceed the skull.

>>
>>2887441
also anon, stop drawing eyes so high in faces, looks really weird. generally speaking, eyes are at the same height as ears are (around the center of the face)
>>
>>2887440
Look at the eyes in this infographic. They are anime style but they are still 3d.

>>2887441
Not even Joker from batman had a mouth that wide.
>>
>>2887443
>eyes are at the same height as ears are (around the center of the face)

To be fair, he put the eyes at the height of the ears, only that he placed them to high as well.

Proportions are way off, head is too small and features are freakishly big. It looks very uncanny and uncomfortable to look it.

You don't have to draw realistic faces but you should at least follow the fundamentals. Your anatomy is decent but the faces honestly look like a 12 year old drew them.
>>
>>2887421
The perspective of the face does not match the head that it is attatched to. Her right eye is a little off. Right arm is at a weird angle and has no depth to it, it looks very flat.

>>
>>2887500
If you make the right side pillars look less flat and do something about those patches of grey on the pyramid, the picture would look pretty nice (for a game out of late 90s or early 2000s). Although you should also pay more attention to the background and the shadows. Remember that any fire produces light and that the sun doesn't really produce such distinct shadows as the one from that pillar. The tree on the left side looks strange, it's like it fell down on the pillar but didn't catch fire. I also suggest working on the effects to make them look more appealing.
>>
>>2887507
ah these are all good catches thanks. i still got quite a bit too go but ive been known for polishing turds so i want to see if this one its actually decent.

as for the tree, so maybe i just drew this wrong to begin with considering how it seems to point toward the view even though the trunk is supposed to start towards just behind the first pillar then the tree goes back towards the further pillar if that makes sense. i guess a way to fix this would be to rework the fawns so that they are viewed from 'beneath' the tree instead of 'above'? sort like pic related since its basically exactly what im trying to do.

>> i guess a way to fix this would be to rework the fawns so that they are viewed from 'beneath' the tree instead of 'above'?
That's right, and the trunk should be foreshortened then. Right now it doesn't seem to be in perspective.
>>
>>2887523
Since you're doing 1-point perspective like that then they should share the same vanishing point.
>>
>>2887528

Yep. Figured that out 45 minutes in.

Ooc, could I get a redline that shows me how to line up the perspective say I wanted to keep the chair at that angle, but use the lines from the desk's VP?

Version Number 2

Is this less flat

I liked the fluffy texture parts on the original's armor and tried to make it bigger in this one but I don't like how it came out. The original armor design was better I think. I may try it a third time combining those.

You don't seem to get what that guy tried to tell ya. Your dude looks even flatter than the one before. Look at this picture and try to understand how it creates an illusion of shape, even though it's far from perfection.
