Avoid symmetrical forms. Avoid too many lines and texture, it makes skin look old and wrinkly.

i was recently commissioned to draw an x-ray shot of a very large dick penetrating a vagine. since there is nothing but dick and generic vagina walls in the shot, creating a sense of scale proved difficult. how would you all approach solving such an issue?

If that's the case consider doing a tiny uterus? though that might not be enough. You could consider talking it out with the commissioner. Often times people who ask for commissions have weird ideas that work in their head but can fall apart at executing them. If you feel something doesn't work or would be difficult to do maybe go back to them for their input.

all i can add is that there's more to line economy than not being chicken scratch, it also ties in a lot to keeping your forms clear and readible, and the weight of line they've chosen to use throughout the sketch does not lend itself well to the amount of detail they want to show with said line

i'd suggest maybe with the current designs you're using, work more on making the movements a bit more exagerated (look into anticipation/payoff/timing/easing/overshoot/etc all that funstuff) as well as adding some more secondary action (things moving in reaction to the "main" movements, think hair movement, fat/muscle jiggle, the rest of the body bouncing in response to a thrust, etc)
also don't forget to give the guy a bit more love too, tho that's maybe more a personal taste thing, i've never really liked the whole "blank void person with a dick" thing

Looking at what you posted I'd say all of the above? Unfinished piece or not, from what's there you can already tell there's some serious uncanny valley shit going on with this mix of 2d- and 3d-like rendering, the face isn't attractive at all and there's something off about the arms. The pose is rather stiff, too. I highly suggest studying some successful porn artists and trying to figure out what makes your dick hard about their works that isn't being captured at all in yours. I don't see any reason why you can't focus on more than one point of improvement at a time

I wish someone told me this and then broke through a concrete wall using my face when I didn't listen.
