There's so much more that could be done with the pose. It's not entirely stiff so much as just having more potential- exaggerating the twist in the torso andposition of legs to appear more dynamic and lively. It looks like she's being forced to pose at gunpoint. The photo itself is pretty boring unless it's one of those splash banners for a Youtuber. If anything I'd look at actual batters in high-FPS on Youtube and analyze how they look during the stages of their swings

How the fuck do I NOT make my colors so fucking muddy? I do a grayscale color/shading job, then use a gradient map + color layer combo to give it true color but it always looks like shit. Artgerm makes it look so easy, does he have a better understanding of values than I do? Where am I fucking up?

Nice edge control!

When you soften up your edges how do you lay it in? I've been having some trouble getting control of my edges in places with high density of detail. So I was just wondering how you approached it to make the brush strokes you lay in one area not muddy up edges in another.

I'm kind of assuming you work hard round and soften it up with a soft round afterwards but I've also seen people work soft to hard sometimes. Just trying to get a grasp of how to tackle some more complex planes.

I failed to mention before that I'm playing around with rendering arguably for the first time here, so I'd love some feedback on what's wrong here. If anything, the amount of shadows might be a bit strong in that previous pic, but idk. i use hard round (with opacity on pen pressure) 90% of the time, and sometime the smudge tool to soften my transitions up but i try my best not to as much as possible because it then has a weird photoshoppy airbrush look to it. without the smudge tool i usually just lay down two values next to each other, eyedrop the middle, paint in the middle that value, and then repeat until it looks smooth. i don't know if i am explaining very clearly you can look at my pic related
obviously when i'm actually painting it's a little more natural and less procedural. also i use the hotkeys to constantly change my brush size so its easier to go from big picture to tiny details whenever i want

good to hear, cause feature placement was an issue for me i was hoping to get past, especially nose and lips. and yeah, this took about 30 minutes of just fucking around, so the brush strokes were in fact slapped all over without much thought.

I will conform, I do agree with you. I never really did any proper studies with "shapes in 3D space", like you know, those drawings of manikin-like caricatures showing how shapes overlap each other? Where/how does one get any examples to learn from? I feel stagnated when it comes to perspective and form knowledge.

There's a lot of flaws, bullet tits are one but the most noticeable one is definitely how fucked your jaw-face-cranium associations are. The top of your head is lopsided and the jaw should end and go up at the midpoint of the side of the head, while yours kind of goes on forever.

For one (unless you're going for the "original child-like" presentation), her body looks far too "adult" for that childish looking face, either go for a youthier body type or make her face older, bringing down that jawline would help in that regard for one. But you should first fix the whole construction of her head entirely first and for most.

With that said, I hope you make something out of this, there's not enough art of this girl for my tastes. (Also fyi, fix her "claw" hand, imao.)

Yes. Best thing I found that describes it.

Ah thanks, my 2nd layer of shadow kind of blended together with the ear section and I forgot to change that part, will try to work on it. Also I would be lying if I say I don't like torpedo tits, and AFAIK pointier tits are trendier at that time period but I guess that's too much so I will have to work on that as well. Proportions are not relative to the stylized head, it is uncanny. if you are using real world figures for reference and slapping on an animu face it doesn't work.

Draw the gesture of whatever you are referencing a number of times, then redraw it without looking at your reference to help solve this issue it worked for me at least.

Since I was the anon that pointed this out first, I'll give you my opinion of how to make what you're trying to do workable.

Late reply sorry, but ever since like 2-3 threads back I've seen you post I've thought you needed to make the eyes bigger to remove that negative space between the eyes and imo this makes what you're trying to do look better. But what is more clear is that you're trying to hit "stylization" too early before you got more of your anatomy and fundamental knowledge down first. I can tell from how the girls upper body construction is, it lacks confidence of how the skeleton would be underneath the skin and same for the muscle structure.

But to the point of the argument, if you're going to keep the "eyes reach the sides of the face", make them bigger. But get more skull anatomy knowledge first so you know WHERE they should be so you can exaggerate them later.
