your room's perspective seems the biggest problem here, make the human guy's legs longer and also give a lightsource to your painting, lighting seems too ambiant.

I like how it looks with the other guys, but the perspective looks too fucked...
so this would be better on the virtue of looking less wrong.
best would be to figure things out a bit more properly to fix the whole thing, but obv it'd take more time and would be less spontaneous.

It is a good composition in terms of her being off centered. The painting needs something else. Seems like an incomplete message is being conveyed.

If you are trying to make the piece impressionist style then there needs to be more color and hint of shapes in the neck piece.

You might try adding the complimentary color to her shirt to create some conflict in the painting since the blue background. Her shirt sprinkled with Orange shapes might add a layer of complexity.

Places like Riot and Blizzard are a mystery to me, I feel as if they'd be a fantastic experience for 1-2 years but after that you should have extracted a good deal of knowledge and aspire for more. I say that as they seem like creative blackholes for the majority of the incredibly skilled artists there who now have no personal voice what so ever.

Glassdoor also paints an almost cult like mentality at Riot that sounds like a cesspit for anyone not drinking the koolaid, it must be a nightmare to speak against that hivemind if you're in the thick of it.

>post his work

Fuck it, why not. Here comes a blog post

He's polite, but behind closed doors I was his punching bag. He never said anything good about anyone, had an obsessive amount of resentment towards his stepsister, and complained that girls reject him due to his height and dick size (I didn't ask, he brought the subject up himself). He'd borrow money from me all the time.

He ripped on me a lot including my art, and not in the bantering way. Yet he'd come crawling into my arms sobbing with TEARS IN HIS EYES when he bitched about what a bad artist he was. He was the epitome of tortured artist, pushing himself and grinding it which I admire but damn, nothing I said helped him when he wallowed in self pity. I stopped talking about art with him because it got nowhere, and then he started saying that I wasn't supportive and that I didn't care about him. Like bitch, really?

idk why I put up with his shit for so long. He started fights over everything. He installed a recorder in my car one night and listened to the conversation I had with a friend, and lost his shit when he found that I was planning on moving. I am surprised he didn't kill me right there and then.

He started throwing my shit out onto the streets and I was like fuck it, I am done. I left that night to a different town, slept in my car for a couple days. He sent emails begging me to come back and sent money to my bank for over a year since I left, even tho I never responded. It only stopped once I closed my bank account. He's attractive and hard working with a diverse portfolio, and he wouldn't have a problem getting girls if he wasn't completely fucked in the head. All his problems were in his head.

that's because you gave him no clavicles and started painting before having a clear idea of how the body works.

I suggest studying bridgman, he's perfect for those kind of blocky shapes when constructing the body.
Try to block simpler forms that work in space and pose in front of a mirror to get a clearer idea of what you wanna do.

Also, if you're not already doing it flip your image every once in a while to refresh your point of view.

The 2 loomis anatomy books are ok if you're a complete beginner, personally I like the hampton method, he gives you a step by step way of doing things that once you incorporate it complete changes the way you approach drawing bodies, it goes something like

Gesture

Connections/movable masses

Landmarks

Perspective

Anatomy

Then there's bridgman but don't just mindlessly copy him, try to do this
http://aartventure.blogspot.com.ar/2014/03/studying-bridgman-properly.html

copy, then look up reference that matches what you copied, understand how the shapes bridgman gives you work and move once the body twists.

Krenz has some good stuff too, he's excellent for understanding simple shapes in perspective, I'd recommend getting down his anatomical model right before trying to move into any sort of deatil.

And the most important aspect, study from life, copy real people, watch closely how they move, how weight balances, every person you see is a moving reference sheet, train your eye too see this things.

Just to give you an idea this is the kind of stuff I did before I started taking practice seriously, I'd do hunderds and never understand why they were wrong.

you should not try to paint on a white background buddy
otherwise i think you should work on your brushstrokes, are you using airbrush? it looks sharp and soft in the wrong places.
the eyes just look emotionless and dead and the eyelashes look a bit too scribbled
>>
>>2780600
Yeah, I'm triying to make a background but i havent finished it yet, I'm working hard in my brushstrokes but SAI is hard.

And about the eyes, emotionless and dead is what i was aiming for, but I agree the eyelashes looks like shit, any tips or tutorials?
>>

why even draw?
>>
>>2780636
dude thats not what i mean
when you paint something you should not start with a white background
dont really have anything on the eyelashes specifically but the eyes look pretty flat, basically the lower ones just come out of the white of the eye
idk how to put it into words man
if i had time id do an overpainting

I was going to comment your work in /las/ thread, but I guess I can do it here as well.
Cast shadow should have sharper edge, whitish bowl at the bottom should have darker core shadow, and adding cast shadow from the whole object on the ground would help with showing form of this object. And those black outlines look really out of place, cartoonish even.

I would suggest reading "How To Render" by Scott Robertson, since you're interested in industrial design.

You should use your darkest darks more sparingly. Specifically, I think that they should be reserved for the shadows of the buildings that are in the foreground (or whatever is in the shadow of the cliff), places like that. As it is the comp is very dark, even for what I think you are going for.

Consider lightening the whole piece up.

Well, a lot of it translates to drawing from life (like comparing angles, looking for negative shapes etc). And drawing from life is necessary to get into any art school - I'm thinking about going to one.
But honestly, doing a study like this just seemed like a nice intro to digital rendering.

Somebody posted this in the last thread asking for advice.

Dude use the lasso tool for the hard edges and then block in the values and use the mixer brush as a smudger to soften edges where you want to, also give more consistency to the background, paint the whole thing with a solid color with a very slight darkening near the focal point which is the torso/head, and spend more time on the block in stage so your figure looks more solid, good luck!

a dragon? it looks like aphex twin's face!
second important thing is to think about the format.
you should spend some time working the the foundations of your image, so do very simple thumbs like pic related to get your values and composition organized first.
otherwise, you might spend hours rendering a beaufitul hoe and then notice what's wrong.

...and if you post these early stages asking for directions you can usually get some useful tips
>>
>>2783550

Aye! Thanks a lot for your feedback man! I did do the simple thumbnails stage for the dudes I'm doing this for and this (my image) is what we landed on. I'm not saying that it's good or anything but I'm just going to have to do the image that I'm doing right now because they like it and I don't have a lot of time.

You're also right about the dragon. The one I have in the background now is just a 10 min. placeholder. I've been looking at Piotr Jablonski's (The image included in this post) dragon thingy for compositional reference but I prefer your idea of doing a whole winged dragon thing with more breathing room for the BG and the chick. I like your composition and I'm going to take it into account while doing this shit. And yes "you can usually get some useful tips". I fucking love /ic/. This is literally the only place in the whole interned where you can get "useful tips" if you can take it.

Your values should be pushed a bit more in the foreground, and lightened a bit in the background.

honestly, I think >>2783566 would fall into what people would call chinese over rendered crap. values are very messy, and there are a number of choices that are hard to justify, all buried under pretty meticulous work.
you're much better off taking inspiration from rapoza; even if I prefer the chinese, you want to take inspiration from something that is technically good, because you can transfer ability on any style.

>>2783599
That's pretty, just need to point out some stuff, if you don't mind. The head is too big and the hand and feet look a bit bad ( not terribly bad just, there is this stage every artist has where they tend to make hands and feet in a bit of a simple, have to show everyting position, you are currently doing that.) Easiest thing you can do with the hands and feet is just take a photo of the position and use it as reference for your painting and in spare time just do a bunch of hand studies. I did that and hands are the most fun in the world for me now.
Overall the painting looks good, but I would add a bit more contrast in value, make the darks a lot darket and make lights lighter. Your painting is going to look a lot better! I like it so far though, nice pose, nice composition.

Thanks for the feedback man. I know what you're saying when you're talking about "Chinese over rendered crap" but I don't really agree with you on what you said about Joblinski's work but maybe I'm just a bit of a fanboy. Most of his stuff is pretty subdued and he's not Chinese. But yeah. Rapoza's much more up my alley and I fucking need to stop looking at other peoples shit anyway.

>>2783601

I did two quick paintovers on your work because I really love what you've done so far. I hope you don't mind. The first one is the "quick and dirty way" of making shit look good in a forest and I'd probably just go with it. Have light coming through leaves and shit so you can get that fun scattery light all over her. You can literally choose where you want the light to hit because "Well you know the leaves in the trees were like that". It really gives you a lot of control!

Image II is just the same thing without the scattering. I think I added too much contrast and saturation but it still illustrates some of the problems I see in your work. Have more saturation and contrast on the area you think is the most important in your work. Edge control is important. Flatten your image and tighten the edges in the areas where you want people to look and blend em in areas where you don't want them to look (oversimplification but still). Another thing I took issue with were her hands. I don't know if it's just because your image is unfinished but they're both really unnarturally still which is definitely a problem since they're in your focal-area. Hope this helped!

>>2783619
>>2783599

Oh and another thing I did was adding warmth into her skin tone into places I thought it was necessary. Your version looks kind of pink. I don't know shit about any skin tones but I'd still say that you might want to play around with that shit some more!

Here's a little experiment I've been doing in my free time. Yes I know the perspective is completely fucked, when I first started sketching this I planned on making it some minimalist thing that only used silhouettes and flat colors. I ended up trying to test my endurance by drawing a fuckton of bricks. I got about 60%-70% of the bricks drawn individually before I tapped out and started copy and pasting. right now I'm trying to focus on getting the mountains to look right. Drawing snow capped mountains is hard as fuck since there is so many distinct gestures and 3D forms coming together it's ridiculous.

you are confusing quantity with quality.
that said, quantity has a quality all in its own.
this however is not that type of quality.
this is not something you should continue.
this is a waste of time.
detailed does not = good.
you are polishing a turn even before the line work is completed.

you may get mad at me saying this , but believe me, its the hours spent on your shitty drawing that will be angry, not you. if you had not personally invested any hours into this piece you would be able to see its shit.

Your're absolutely right. However like I said in my post i'm fully aware the image is fucked, it wasn't even supposed to be a 3D image in the first place. The purpose of this is to see if I can even draw detailed in the first place. It's just an exercise of patience to test my ability to draw for long periods of time without losing focus or giving up. I appreciate you telling it to me straight, all of my normie friends blindly praised this because it was detailed and ignored all the technical issues.

Overall, not bad. her boobs are looking a bit chunky because of the shading and the right boob needs to be rounder. the left forearm seems to have a bit of an unnatural bend to it that slightly suggests that she has 2 elbows. the shading of the left arm sleeve also seems a little flat.
>>
>>2784621
looking pretty good so far. what will be the most important elements in the picture? right now the midground mountains have the greatest amount of contrast and definition. You may want to lighten them slightly if your important elements are going to be in the front, otherwise disregard what I just said.
>>
>>2784677
not bad, the values are off though. Since it looks like a pretty sunny locale, the water near the shore should be much lighter as the sand should reflect light in the shallow water. the rocks in the back can have a greater range of values - the furthest rocks should have a value more similar to the sky while the closer rocks should have more relative contrast. You are also missing the cast shadows for the trees.

When you're practicing drawing from imagination, is it ok to just totally throw away observational drawing? I'm really just trying to get the shapes and planes down I'm seeing in perspective. I believe the observational part is more relevant once you get a good idea of the basic forms of the human body.

I've been drawing people from 3D software, and it's a great replacement for life drawing that I just can't get access to.

(Website is sketchfab if you're interested)

Does it get easier the more you draw the human figure? I never realized how horrible it is to draw from photographs until I gained access to 3D rotations of human beings. I can now learn everything about the human body without guessing and thinking and ultimately winding up with something that is totally off-mark.

Here's a good model that's not on sketchfab:
