You have more Anime artists than "Western" ones. Dividing this is stupid, as both Eastern and Westerns styles borrow from each other and are heavily stylized. It's just "anime" is more popular since it's got a bigger appeal, and the west mostly does children's cartoons so less people are exposed to other western styles. Also, this is 4chan, so you're more likely to be an anime fan considering this place was literally nothing but /a/ during its conception.

Also, I always seek out this thread no matter what style of stylized art I post. Further dividing an already small board on the grounds of elitism is fucking dumb.

I recommend Chico changes the titles to just Alternative and Stylized Draw Thread. Just drop the "anime" from the title since ALL anime art is stylized art, and having a separation in the first place is unnecessary, and it's clearly bothering a small group of people who feel marginalized and feel triggered when they see anime on a weeaboo forum.

So just make everyone happy, choose the best piece of art to make each thread, and drop "anime" from the title Chico. I'm cool with keeping you as the OP, but I do partially agree with some of these complaints.

How do you go about constructing anime faces, /ic/?
I feel like no amount of Loomis or anatomical study helps me, I always fuck up the jaw, perspective of the eyes, and the whole head in general by fucking up on a single stroke, then spend 5 hours correcting it

To be honest, that just means you suck at drawing. Like messing up a single stroke? You should be over that already. Once you have gained line confidence aka being able to place lines however you want them and therefore can focus on another subject at hand like drawing heads, then you would easily be able to learn how to do faces. Also, if you can't do Loomis, you can't do heads. Loomis is like the building block and foundation of heads. There's the other guy Reilly or whatever, but just keep working at Loomis and it'll just click how you do everything else. So keep at it, 5 more hours.

I'm colour picking across her clothes from light to dark and its pretty much a straight line up in terms of value with little change in saturation or hue.

Vary it up a bit, coollight/warmshadow or the other way around, or maybe some subsurface scattering on the skin, or having the shadows of her clothing be a bit more saturated as bounce light from one part of it hits the other; make the parts of her interact with one another.

use a brush setting to link pressure with line weight, or you're actually handicaping yourself, you end doing toughtless scribbles around without caring fo your drawing and reference's forms

don't focus on rendering final details while everything is so sketchy
don't lose the drawing, the drawing is the foundation of a good painting, draw with painting

getting away with a good painting without caring too much about drawing is a priviledge of really experienced artists

Well, the final painting rarely tends to look the intial sketch so I thought I could breeze over it. I'm struggling, because I can do a decent sketch but it all goes to shit when it's time to start painting, so I figured why work on the sketch. I got bored and tried an artist who isn't as challenging as Sakimichan, so this is my study of Loish's Ambrosial. Do I still have the same underlying problem? I'm still working on this one in real time, so I can fix what's wrong with it if you tell me.

I've superficially observed that the "shadow" effects for skin in oekaki works are represented mostly by a discrepancy in saturation, not value. The OP image for example only uses about 1/8 of the value range, but also uses the entire saturation range for the skin. Even this image, in which the subject supposedly has "dark skin," the values are still packed tightly together, her base skin tone is just more saturated. Any comments on this? Does keeping the image bright add to the appeal?

Depends to be honest. I would say shit like what's going on under her right leg looks like shit but that's ultimately unrelated to the discussion I feel, and I still I like the rendering of the rest of it. The bright feel is nice and welcoming but I feel it can get pretty confusing in more detailed or mashed up pieces. Would have to see one for that case though.

It's a common courtesy to everyone to have images at a manageable size, especially since superlarge images eat up a lot of people's precious mobile data.

Again, if you want people to even bother looking at your stuff to critique it, I recommend you resize your images. Otherwise you're gonna get ignore most of the time.

Well as I said above I tried to keep the original proportions of the artist. scar in the manga has pretty big protuberant zygomatics, which even if it looks weird in line art, still look like that. he also has a big jaw and huge depressor muscles under his mouth. I know they're a bit too big here, but they're a big part of scar's look, I mean he's a homeless nomad serial killer in search of vengeance. add to that his ethnic side.

Well, yeah. It's not quite finished. I'll look up some decent ref for fire should I decide to go with the bottom one. I also gotta reshape it since it doesn't match up with the perspective.

I'm kinda playing around with a few things, and the overall colors before I start to fully render everything. So I just use blobs as placeholders. No point in wasting time to render something properly, only to change my mind halfway through. Rather make the decisions now, and then go all out once I'm settled.

Fire makes sense with the light source, plus it looks a bit nicer.

I would honestly consider making it darker, and adding it about to fire a beam for a secondary interesting light source. Just a suggestion though.
