This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

Remember the words of our good friend Glen Vilppu: 'There are no rules, only tools'
How come the Anime thread in /ic/ is always the most hostile? People in the normal threads are typically more helpful/constructive. That last thread was a fucking disaster.

this type of art attracts the tumblrinas
they get triggered and baited way more easily

It's not really the whole thread. /ic/ is a really slow board with about 100 total, give or take. These threads average out around 60 different IPs per thread, so if we take into account IPs that naturally reset, as well as shitposters, you can average around 40 people per thread.
Of those 40 only a small number are actively engaged in conversations, as the people drawing really just sort of come and go.
So really, it's just one really bitter dude who like to hang around here and gets easily pissed off. You can always tell by the way he posts, he gets very angry all the time, and gets offended when people don't take his criticism well. I don't really think he's a shitposter persay, just a really bitter person. It's kibd of easy tp notice since /ic/ is a smaller community, but if you've been to other forums, you'll always notice those really strange people here and there eith legit autism who are always gettibg angry. This anon in particular thinks the veil of anonymity hides him, and he'll ocassionally samefag to give the illusion of multyiple people agreeinf with him, but his posts are still about a minute apart from each other. I don't think he's like s troll or anything, I imagine he posts art too sometimes, but something tells me he mustn't be very good either, since his behaviour screams jealousy, so he slams other people to validate himself. He's probably just autistic.
If /ic/ had IDs he wouldn't do that so often. And we won't get rid of him, he's been around /ic/ for a good 2 years. He probably hangs around /a/ a lot too. He has similart posting habits to that board, and he obviously hangs around this thread the most.

Why aren't we getting green bouncelight from the grass? Why arent the shadows more blue? Why do the bushes in the foreground look like vegan turds?

First ever painting. That's why. I know fuck all about painting. I'm reading Alla Prima, so hopefully I'll learn something.
I plan on doing more actual paintings here and there as colors and stuff are my weakest point.
>>2653819
>I plan on doing more actual paintings here and there as colors and stuff are my weakest point.
Still life paintings really help in that regard, aim for accuracy with colour and colour relationships and with that book you'll make some nice gains.
>>2653820
Yeah, that's what I wanna do. I'm really itching to do some real life ref paintings, as most of that was imaginative work, and took a lot of guesswork and stuff. That's why I just wanted to get it over with.
>>2653773
Give them some form of expressions, they look like creepy mannequins.
>>2653847
That's how the original looks like to be fair.
>>2653847
Take it up with Miyasaki.
>>2653818
>Looks good
No, it doesn't. She says that they're smiling but what do people look for first in a smile? The eyes, you read people's expression through the eyes you may not realize this but it is one of those subtle characteristics that you pick up immediately.
Those eyes are not smiling hence why Anons are saying they look like drones - expressionless and void of life.
>>2653904
>anons
it's really just one dude desu
>>2653919
you mean the guy who bash "miyazaki/daisuke in person", or the guy who defend "miyazaki/daisuke in person"?
personally I've tried twice to say something to help, but it doesn't seem like anything is going to work. I mean, he's "miyazaki/daisuke in person", so how would you help, lowly mortal?
>>2653940
I meant the shitposter who's excessively rude with his ''critique'' and gets angry when people don't take him seriously.
I've seen it happen with other posts too. Not just the daisuke/miyasaki anon. Seen it happen to M, and a couple others. Makes you wonder about the sort of person who's so lonely they actually lurk an art thread to berate people's work in order to get others to acknowledge they exist.
>>2653773
Why is links neck as long as his head? Also why are their eyes so unfocused?
anyone have any resources for robots/mechas?
>>2653848
That's not being fair, that makes it worse. It shows you are unable to deduce problems with something you are "referencing" and just copy down the same mistakes. You can't learn anything this way and your work suffers for it.
>>2653817
If you assume they are black cooled lava when up close it's not so awful
>>2653963
I don't know man, I'm too tired of this shit to try to identify posters anymore. Usually I have more an issue with people who don't take well crits or just don't listen to them, as I didn't get that much help on the things I posted last, but there are indeed too much people who just say "you're shit" without anything else.
>>2653963
>>2653806
You're actually delusional. I'm the guy who criticized your shit in the previous thread, and this is the first time I'm posting in this thread. I only posted a fraction of the posts you accusing me of in the previous thread as well.
The problem here isn't me, it's you. You're the one incapable of accepting criticism, and just keep running around in circles with your excuses. You have no sense of your own lack of skill, and you're so paranoid that you think you're getting stalked. I've never samefagged in my entire life, and just because you do it, doesn't mean others do.
You seriously need to grow up and accept criticism. You're turning into the next Malfag.
>>2653787
>>2653797
>>2653848
>>2653851
Look at this shit. It happens every time. People give you honest critique and point out the flaws in your picture that are evident for everyone to see, and you refuse to accept it. You make excuses that are just plain wrong, then you compare yourself to a professional Japanese artist by posting the reference you used, which ironically looks nothing like your own picture. If people post redlines, you just outright reject them. In the end, you become hostile and bitchy and accuse everyone who's trying to criticize your art of being the same person.
It's the same every damned time.
I drew a blossom. Any tips?

I think you want to redo the creases on the right leg. They're making it look odd
This is what happens when you people try to critique unsalvagable works like >>2653773. There is literally nothing good about this art, maybe the wolf creature, but that's about it. And now when you guys have tried to help him, you get shit on. He's a terrible artist, one of the worst I've seen on this board, probably due to the fact he skipped over learning the essentials and dove straight into rendering (which is shit as well). But now this thread has been clogged up with responses to this image and literally none of them are helpful because you cannot help people who refuse to learn. Stop replying to shit. Stop critiquing pieces drawn by people who haven't bothered learning the fundamentals. you people are so goddamn retarded i swear
>>2654343

I do it all the time to at least help the artist out, yes I'm extremely harsh, but why the fuck should I care about your feelings when I'm simply telling you the truth. We're not as good as we think, be open minded, stop being so attached to your art work. Accept criticism. Pce faggot.
>>2654770

I'm almost at the point where I write a post to the mods and report myself, just so they can read it. /ic/ has turned to complete shit over the past year.

You're on 4chan. In case you forgot. Also this thread is about anime lol.

Rule number two:
>Only constructive criticism will be accepted. Rude or offensive comments will result in a ban.
Just becuase it's 4chan, that doesn't give you or anyone the right to derail a thread by acting like a jackass. The posts I pointed out are bannable as per the rules once mod sees them.
Take your cancer back to the /b/ drawthreads. I deal with enough teenage angst at work.
>>2654910

I don't really like the sense of weight in her legs.
A good tip from classical art is to think about both upper and lower leg as having two major forms (cylinders) - the one on top is boney and hard (femur, tibia) and the other is soft flesh (adductor group, calf). When sitting down, the mushy form gets squished between the hard one and the surface the figure is sitting on.

Yeah, my workflow is a mess,a massive one.
>>2655766
you need to set reasonable rules to fix your workflow, do it lazy
set yourself some limits to render
three layer groups: line art, base colors, lighting
nothing else, don't break that pattern, keep it simple
keep a main base color and everything else on top of it at 90% opacity, that basically makes them closer and fit better
make shadows on only 1 layer, multiply/difference/divide modes, sightly gray-dark cold color (purples do best)
all base colors due to shadows will be pushed exactly as far, being beilable
If you divide the workload to paint shadows in actual casted shadows and AO, it will be easier and will get cheap 3D read
don't spend time rendering weak drawings

doodlezzz
Quickie.
I'm so garbage at rendering and not using lines so heavily. What do.
Is drawing something purely upon rendering (no lines) a good way to render?
>>2657403
so if you draw the same thing over and over again until you master it like a frontal view of a character will you get good?
>>2657453
you will be able to get good at drawing that one thing, but it will take you an absurdly long time in comparison to those who utilize deliberate practice and good study habits.
>>2657458
I've been drawing for about 2 and a half years now and most of what I've been drawing is the front view face of an anime girl, I don't want to say that I got "good" per say but I got proficient at drawing that view and the 3/4 view. But lately I've been experiencing a period where I just feel like I've gotten worse, it all starts when I see the thing I've drawn and I don't like it, and try to draw another one and it's just as bad then it takes about two weeks or so to finally start "liking" what I draw again, and then I get scared to draw that front view face because it might be bad, and it's gonna trigger that whole repetetive cycle again... then when i start drawing that front view face again a lot of times it starts inevitably getting bad again... I wish I could always feel that good feeling, it's always so short and bittersweet, and I feel like I have to keep fighting to reach that moment each time. I know that a good feeling will come after I go through that "hell" so that's why I haven't quit yet. I know the theory of the hand and eye but it's just getting so frustrating up to a point where I feel so lost.. It's like getting high off of some drug and then that down low period...
>>2657504
just fucking post it loser.
ill tell you if its bad
>>2657508
uhh ok i'll just link my deviantart account I literally don't have any draws tho http://james7006500.deviantart.com/
>>2657509

>>2657509

>>2657519

you're miles away from the /beg/ threads
>>2657551
really cute, although I would recommend bringing her left eye in a bit
When will i draw normal legs? Also loomis part XX.
>>2657572
>When will i draw normal legs?
If you stop rendering the same pose and actually study legs.
my oc critiques are welcome
>>2657584
>implying drawing legs properly has anything to do with studying legs
he needs to learn to see and draw ovals
he needs to triplecheck shapes proportions, lines angles, type of curves etc
his problem is not anatomy related
>>2657572
people dont have thigh gaps that big, especially not when sitting down
>>2657616
>his problem is not anatomy related
Sure thing. Anatomy is not a problem.
>>2656822
I love it, good job.
>>2656155
Give her a neck and this won't look too bad
>>2656822
Basic 2 point perspective would have made this much better
>>2655809
blog asap and work on those proportions
>>2657595
y-you must be baiting
>>2657635
If someone draws an helicopter wrong, it doesn't mean he should study helicopters because he's missing something about them
the problem is within the basic skill set to check proportions from the reference, to see form within the reference, to then construct it 3D from 2D
otherwise it will be flat and with strange proportions/shapes, like his pic
>>2657774
hi pops :D
wheres the rest of her legs :-/
>>2658000
shes amputee, i heard people like amputees
>>2656981
Jet set radio fanart
>>2658031
Only if they have a ton of semen dripping out of their cunts.
Thoughts on this? Is it loomis approved?
>>2658254
>flat nose
Yeah, no.
>>2658256
You're not Loomis
>>2658254
Feet on the left one are completely flat rectangles and a bit too small.
The cap feels like it's too big for the head/doesn't fit properly.
Right character's back and butt are not aligned.
Good work on the arm/hand (holding the cheque), the hair on both, and the face of the right one.
>>2658258
NO DON'T START FLAME WAR
STOP ANON
REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>2658259
Thank you for the constructive crit. This board need more people like you.
>>2658307
The hands are tiny and the left arm seems to have an extremely long upper arm/small lower arm because of the angle of the lower arm.
>>2658320
oo, didn't even notice how stupid that left arm feels. Thanks
>>2655757
can you link me to his pixiv?

>>2656846
Second page in progress, still need to redraw clean the second panel.
Think I handled the render of the rocks better this time, guess I'll tweak the first page's to match them.
>>2658837
it's a really bad framing/poses, the effects are really nice and dinamic, on spot, yet, the camera POVs kill the hype
you've made 3 consecutive windows where the main character is on the same pose, 3/4 looking up, then 3/4 same direction, frontal antagonist, while recycling a whole page-scene, that's too much
the man appears frontal and stiff, get some movie or wwe references for better coreography, you could have made it way better with just better starting choices/planing/design
>>2658846
>while recycling a whole page-scene
That was clearly the point of the scene. Wouldn't have worked with a new POV.
>>2658849
what are you going to lose by changing the camera angle anon? if anything keeping the same POV hurts you more than helps.
hermaphrodi
>>2658929
Cute.
Weird legs though, too manly, and that arm.
>>2658930
>arm

>>2659181
hey thats pretty neat, whats your process like?
I've been wanting to do something similar, but if I dont paint methodologically it ends up looking very painterly and unpolished.
theres a lot of layer manipulation there right, kyle?
>>2659181
Pretty good. But why are her boobs so big?
>>2659181

>>2657375
Nigga, stop spamming.
He's progressing slowly? Whatever the guy is slow and actually progressing.
You on the other hand don't seem to do anything but post this same exact post everytime he shows up.
YOU know what you're doing wrong. Stop.
>>2657458
You know what, that just isn't true.
All people learn differently, some loomis loomis and git gud, some actually need tutoring, some get good through grinding.
I read the sticky intently, did everything as adviced, actually READ Loomis, but couldn't draw a fucking proportioned person.
Then I traced over a couple medical illustrations for work and suddenly I could draw proportionate figures, amateurish and crude, but finally fucking proportional.
If /ic/ is ever to be an actually useful resource for aspiring artists we need to stop it with "muh fundamentals" and "muh sticky" and actually analize and comminicate what specific fundamental flaw the piece in question has. Otherwise we're just sending people wandering the desert, sure we give them a farting camel and vague map of what the desert looked like a century ago, but they're still aimless.
>>2659181
This is pretty cute well done anon might fix lips tho.
>>2653307
Her boobs look weird
>>2658307
Too much focus was put on the details of her face, legs look too thin and long, arms too, practice more with gesture and anatomy.
