Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

I'm mostly using Croquis Cafe and New Masters Academy youtube channels and they seem to have mostly female models. But you are right, i need to leave the comfort zone and switch to males for a while.

LAS made me realize that im never gonna make it.
On days i didnt draw i was telling myself that i could make it if i tried and could easily imagine that i was better than i really am. The reality is im shit and everyone will improve except me. I was expecting this after seeing the first few tribunals. I spent more than two hours making changes to that picture, most of it went towards detailing the hand. I guess in a way maybe I should be flattered you guys think I'm capable of more, but I'm still learning how to render so it takes me a very, very long time. Plus there is a lot of work I do that I do that I end up undoing or erasing but since it's digital it doesn't show easily like eraser marks on paper. I still think overall it looks like more than 30 minutes of work whether you believe me that I spent several hours on it. I don't know what I'm supposed to do from here on out. I have a lot of commissions and other work so I've been staying up until 4 and 5 am just to have time to work on a thing for las but I can't start a new drawing every day and I can't show all the time I'm spending on my wips unless I stream all the time or something. Thanks anons. I was expecting to see the Zelda one first honestly. I did that update on a day where I only had an hour of free time. I thought I was going to get way more done but as I was working the colors were coming out weird and I realized one of my overlay layers was completely fucked. I ended up wasting the entire time trying to fix that layer only to realize I'm going to have to completely start it over so it looks like I did practically nothing and maybe technically I didn't since I have to throw that layer out.

I'd like to believe that simply by being in the tribunal their alarm bells are ringing, telling them to maybe change their approaches, but some of them have been in the tribunal several times now

People seem to think not being a complete beginner means you must be an expert at laying in details or something. Even professionals can spent upwards of dozens of hours on a piece.

No one who reports stuff like this seems to get that a picture isn't 0-100 in one go, there are moments where you have to think about where you're placing things, moments where you make mistakes and must change them, and even times where a specific part of an image might take redoing over and over and over and over.

Yeah I never realized how little of what I do shows on the wips sometimes. Like that stupid dragon thing I've been working on. The latest version I uploaded I worked on in 3 different sessions, all over an hour. Two of those sessions I ended up undoing 98% of all the rendering and detailing I did because I wasn't happy with it. This morning I spent a little more time on it, still hated it but thought some stuff was better so I uploaded it. Flicking back and forth between the new one and previous one, it doesn't look like much changed despite me knowing I spent hours between the two. I don't know what I can do about that though.

Tribunal aside he has a point. I really do need to be faster. I want to try and get some work this summer and I'll be fuck out of luck if I can't finish a decently rendered if not fully polished character in an hour or so. I've tried going faster but those are the times I end up throwing away work so I've been taking it slower. Maybe it's too slow. I'm hoping once I get some of this other stuff done I can spend more time and push myself more but in the meantime I'll see if I can push to get more done in the time I do have.

You can make time. I took 6-8 classes/semester, ran two student groups, and worked 20 hours a week part-time in college and still somehow found time to waste playing games and occasionally draw. If it's important to you, you'll make the time for it.

I guess that slow work doesn't look like much progress when viewed all at once. I definitely don't want to overextend but I could maybe get away with reaching a little more.
