It really depends on how your local job market is. For example, here, it's all political campaigning and government type jobs, so you better enjoy making a lot of editorial work and photo retouching for candidates. Kinda soulcrushing.

There's some fantastic stuff on the field tho, I love design and don't really regret my time spent on it, but yeah, finding a cool job can be really hard.

I can't speak for anatomy jobs globally but here it seems like it depends on what you can add to it. A medical undergrad can go into an actual med job, a graphic designer can illustrate for academia and the medical industry, a programmer can develop imaging technologies etc. Obviously it's not that strict but you get the idea. Not sure if will be able to find relevant work tbqh.

Self taught for 6 months 1 week and 29 years old, no previous experience, study or interest. Pic is the lesson plan I had on the side of my stream from back when I lived on Twitch. If I could go back and change one thing it'd be to start with perspective and to draw from imagination as much as I studied.

I setup a sketchbook on conceptart.org and maintained it for a couple months but I got tired of the site being down half the time I posted so I abandoned it. I did keep a list of all the resources I used as well as how/why I used them.

I think I've made good progress but up until a couple weeks ago I was only averaging around 4-6h/day on art. I've recently cut out anything non-art/LAS related and on top of my LAS submissions (1-3 hours pls no bully) I do a couple hours of studies and 7 pages in my sketchbook (a little more than 2.5 pieces of printer paper.) I think I made good progress in the first 6 months but I want to make great progress in the next 6 so I'm going full tryhard.

Sorry for blog. Everyone else was giving short responses and/or dank memes and I can go overboard since I keep track of everything

I dunno it's easy to waste a lot of time if you focus on something for too long. I added portraits specifically to the lesson plan because they require everything I'd learned up to that point. Plus it's a marketable skill and faces are important regardless of what I decide to do.

After I finish the lesson plan I'm going to try out illustration, concept art, animation and comics to see what I want to focus on. I'd rather spend a month or two figuring out what I want to do over choosing whatever sounds like a good idea and end up wasting a lot of time or burn out because I'm doing something I don't enjoy but was convinced I should do

I have one theory.

When you study and understand certain concepts, your brain starts to think about a bunch of different things when you create pieces compared to before when you drew blindly.Therefore you're going to make a lot more mistakes because you're trying to get things right.

Also it's easier to learn really simple symbols and draw them in such a way that it still looks appealing. It's why the simplest formless cute pictures of Pikachu on Deviantart could have 1000 favorites or whatever but a detailed portrait of noticeably higher skill level could have 7. The more you try to do, the more areas you have to fuck up and as such it wont be as easily consumable to the eye.

Anyway, just keep going anon, you gotta be bad for a while before you get good anyway. And these periods of feeling like shit will always happen. You just gotta push forward.

I wish I spent more time drawing in high school, I doodled during school hours in pretty much every class (grades were still good) but didn't really bother actually studying art and spent most of my free time at home on 4chan or other websites. I wish I came to /ic/ more and actually looked into all of the recommended resources, I could be so much better by now. I'll just have to work extra hard now. At least it's almost spring break. I promise I'll try to spend at least 1/3 of my waking hours every day drawing or reading relevant materials.

In this case it is illegal and the image host wouldn't host it. Nudity itself is fine but any thumbnails that feature minors engaged in sexual activities will be removed

Yeah, I'm not into it but my personal belief has been that as long as children aren't involved in its production then I don't really care. That seems to be the way most countries handle it law-wise but Canada is one of the few that ban it completely, no exceptions.

I don't know it works with me being in Canada, the server being in the US and the content being hosted elsewhere and I can't afford to hire a lawyer to figure it out. Like I said, I'm not the art police so I'm not going to tell people what they can or cannot draw but I can't host illegal content on the server

You're right I think that's the best way to handle it. I just don't know what's illegal or not and it's best to err on the side of caution when it's something that's known to be illegal. I'll remove any infringing submissions and if the submitter has an email set then I'll contact them and let them know.

I'll add an alert to the site explaining the change and get started on a ToS

I suggest the addition of an NSFW+ checkbox which pops up when clicking the NSFW check-box. This can indicate to people a warning of responsibility before looking at an image that could break local laws and makes the uploader responsible for an understanding of these laws. I suggest emailing the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund instead of Googling and I'm sure they will be happy to answer all your questions because they exist for situations such as these. Also congratulations, when a art website starts to hit the legalities of free expression, you know it's growing.
