She's said it herself, her entire channel/career is designed around being as viral as possible, and, basically, selling out as quickly as possible. And that's fine I guess, but it basically results in all her stuff being shallow af.

I like to compare her videos to Adam's "One Day Builds" on the Tested channel (who Simone works for currently). Many of Adam's builds are just static props, frequently from movies I haven't seen or care about. But the fun is in seeing his enthusiasm for it, seeing the build process, what tools he uses, watching the problem solving, etc. With Simone's videos, it's "here's something I made a few days ago. It's powered by an arduino, there's some springs and shit in there, now watch a 30-60s clip of it working really awkwardly that's designed to be ripped and reposted in gif format for maximum virality". Horses for courses, but it seems very shallow in comparison, especially given that the "robots" are barely functional. The "omg this woman is promoting engineering to young women" angle that keeps following her around is a bit on the nose too.

I guess it'd just be nice to see a more substantive build from her, even if the end result is similarly shitty/nonfunctional. Everyone seems to like her, so some collaborative build with Adam on the Tested channel would probably be popular and fun.

As for her sponsors terminating her contract ... I mean, it's hard to tell what was really going on there. It sounds like they didn't really have too much of a problem with her behavior on her own channel, with the issues arising from her mouthing off during the live sponsored event. She didn't have much more to say beyond that, so it sounds like *she* probably violated some part of the contract using that kind of language on stage. Anyway, I don't blame her for it, but the "I'm too edgy for corporate sponsorship" angle to promote her Patreon is a little on the nose too.

Well I'm not sure I was expecting "trench-deep" content, but sure. Most of my 'shallowness' comments are merely as a result of comparing her work to that of the technical-based Tested videos, which is probably unfair anyway. It's mostly just a personal preference type thing - her short funny videos are great, but it'd also be nice to see some projects/videos with a bit more substance and/or process. I thought we might have been getting some of that with her Tested collaborations, but so far, zippo. Just "seriously, a weird water tank in a truck?" advertisements and some appearances on their podcast.

Regardless, her content is designed around memes and being viral, and that kind of stuff has a *very* short lifespan. If she doesn't do anything new with her videos, it's unlikely that any of this "shitty robot nation" stuff will remain relevant through 2017. And with her self-admitted tendency to run her mouth without much of a filter (to the point where she's already managed to lose herself corporate sponsors), and her being highly politicized in otherwise-fun shitty robot videos, I wonder if she's a bit of a ticking time-bomb before she manages to piss off some big swath of the internet.

But maybe I'm just being an overly critical dipshit.

I mean, I thought I was pretty clear about this part - I was expecting (or, more like, hoping) to start seeing some videos on her channel more in line with what Tested does. Again, Tested is an apt comparison here. Adam has a fun personality, *and* is capable of doing more substantive (but not needlessly technical) videos. I don't see why Simone couldn't be doing similar sorts of videos too (especially *with* Tested, which is why I'm a little confused as to why their collaboration has yielded almost nothing of any real interest yet), even if she keeps her simpler videos as her staple show.

At the end of the day, I just don't think the meme/viral-based format has any real staying power. She's pushing the "I'm a quirky girl who is interested in robotics, engineering, building stuff, etc" angle, so my natural assumption is that she'd start making some videos where she ... actually does some robotics, engineering, or building stuff. So far, nope, not even after collaborating with a large building-stuff channel.

She has the ability to do some really cool projects right now - she has the know-how, the networking, and the personality to tie it all together.
