I am creating a map for my Dungeons and Dragons game and I am trying to strongly base it on 1400-1600 Europe. I have been slightly tweaked names of real historical places, but also used creative liberties to mix things up (wizards and orcs and shit). I've used my history books plus a lot of Wikipedia to get the jist of it.

Anyway I need your help. If you can recommend any FICTIONAL NAMES OF CITIES that resemble real cities but don't sound too retarded in that native language, I'd be appreciative. Anything I could improve, change, or add. Or any other heraldry, ethnicities, geography, mountains, rivers, or general mockery is fine too, go nuts.

Thanks
>>
>>593667
Why not just use an actual map of Europe and change names/cities/nations/labels etc.?
>>
>>593671
I wanted to shift the geography around so include fantasy elements as well as not make it a exact 1:1.
>>
>>593676
I guess, but unless your players are geographically retarded they'll be able to tell they're essentially playing in Europe anyway, so it seems odd to put in the effort but not just make something unrecognizable.
>>
>>593684
Well, I intentionally wanted the world to feel familiar enough, very low-fantasy. If you show people a super-fantasy world sometimes it takes a long time to explain everything they need to know.
With something like this I can just point out notable cultures and they can "fill in the blank".
>>
I like your stuff op , did these sort of maps myself years ago , if I recall I called a large siberian-like area Jankara , you could also try Wolfrim , Vindicus , Targus , Omerania , Kantila , Servillia , Santus Val , Safa , Koberon , Kalavus .

hmm

maybe make a map using this and try to imagine how civilization would arise

Those sound pretty cool, I'll slide them in.

>>593768
Nailed it.

First of all >>>/tg/
Second, !Europe settings with !HRE, !France and !Rus are boring AF you lazy piece of shit.
Third, just go to Wikipedia's list of German/French/Russian placesd and search for towns with less than 5000 habitants and steal their names.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_and_towns_in_Hungary#All_other_towns_in_Hungary
for example
>>
>>594651
>forests are distinct bodies rather than the default settlements drill holes into
Unrealistic senpai.
>>
>>594671
Everything is forests really, the ones on the map are just extra dense, unpopulated, untouched, full of monsters and weird shit so nobody really goes throught them.
>>
>>593667
>principality of Gothos

literally kill yourself

>boring AF you lazy piece of shit
It was a good starting point for me since I'm not a History buff and I wanted enough variety.
>towns with less than 5000 habitants and steal their names
This is probably the best option, thanks.
>unpopulated, untouched, full of monsters and weird shit so nobody really goes through them.
I had the same concept, the major difference is that typical D&D setting include vast wilderness frontier areas with no human settlements, which doesn't really feel "European". So I wanted this map principly to show civilization with the understanding that there are ancient ruins and enclaves of monsters hidden throughout.

>>594759
What specifically is bad about it?
>>
>>593667
"Sharabia"
Ha!
>>
>>593667
Really cool, especially with all those sigils and coats of arms. Did you get those from the internet or did you make them yourself
>>
>>595108
A lot of them are just basic clipart type or vector shapes I googled and ripped off, a few I slightly tweaked and slapped together in photoshop. The Aedria one I build from vectors.

>>595097
That one is more of a placeholder than some of the others, I've considered "Abyssidia" or "Rashidi" or "Shahir".
>>
>>595117
"Abyssidia" sounds the most fantasy-esque in my opinion, I like it
>>
>Sharabia
>Bolska
I like it OP, although it's not very subtle at all. I hope that's something you're aiming for, because otherwise I've got bad news.
>>
>>595144
I personally don't mind some blatant ones but actually that's why I made this thread, to get some suggestions for renaming.

Do you have a tutorial? I've been wanting to draw maps like yours for a while but all the tutorials for free image editors like Gimp or Paint.net suck.

Does anyone have the meme-european map?
>>

Due to the significant geographic relocating of the British isles, I fused several region together into hybrid cultures. The most notable is Arkhos, which is Denmark/Scotland. Welyg is a fusion of Wales and old-growth ancient dark woods (The Welygwood, source of Halflings and Gnomes), think uninhabitable unseelie feys and willowisps. The Region between Lomburg and Welyg is going to be labeled "Belgundia" or something like "Merovingia", maybe.
However, so much has been displaced that there has to be some editing of real cultures.

From a style standpoint the north of Sangrield is like "Enchanted Forest" and the eastern Gothic lands are like "Dark Forest". Basic jist of the fictional history is that at some point in the past the Gothic Empire was the big bad evil crew that conquered huge stretches. Eventually the fringe duchies rebelled and carved out their own states.

I used this to generate the continent silhouettes: https://rjanicek.github.io/voronoi-map-haxe/
Unfortunately you don't really have control of the biomes.
Then in photoshop I isolated the layers and put a thin hard drop shadow to get the outlines.
I also "blurred" everything by using the cutout filter.
You could use vectors to create national borders or other lines.
Then labeling the countries/cities is just finding nice fonts.

The lack of scale makes me think of some kind of scandinavian inter-fjord feuding clans.
