No. There's no archaeological evidence for either. The idea of a United Monarchy was probably invented during the Babylonian captivity when religious leaders were trying to unite their people under the idea of a single, codified "right" way of doing things.

There's evidence of King David in the Tel-Dan Stele, which contains a 9th century BCE inscription referring to the "House of David." It would logically follow that Solomon probably existed then, too. That being said the version in the bible is likely highly mythologized and idealized.

IIRC from Israel Finkelstein's book there's not really evidence of a united monarchy, but I could be wrong.

The David story in the bible is actually really fun. If you read between the lines it comes off as a huge apologetic - all these people around David keep dying but the story goes out of its way to explain how he had nothing to do with it.

At one point the story says that at one point while David was leading a band of mercenaries, but he didn't actually attack his own people - he just lied to the king he was working for and said he did.
