I started out with the information that was collected by my grandmother and aunt. I can't remember the number, but that was less than a thousand people. After putting them all in a family tree program, I discovered that a couple of the names were popping up on the internet and discoverered that I was related to my country's leading genealogist. So I decided I wouldn't just add my direct ancestors and their expanded relatives, but also the relatives of those relatives. That's how I got to the number of around 4000.

I still have to go down to the archives to look up my great-great-great-grandfather, though.

Oh, and this is only for my mother's side of the family. My father didn't know his father and his mother born out of wedlock so I'm locked out of researching that side of the family.

Also DAR records are just about as unreliable to a point. In the early days the only requirement for membership was "a lady's word." Yeah. The other organizations are a bit more stringent. But it's a bit 'ol mess figuring out who is valid and who isn't, particularly since that will effect standing in certain (warped) social circles.

I lost my family tree thing somewhere in my hard drive, but the rundown is that my great grandparents came from Spain, decided to settle in Granada, Nicaragua and started a business and a family. They lived in this cool house that my grandmother inherited later on and we decided to move to the states.
That's the only thing I know about my family history.

Also this is unconfirmed, but I suspect there was an Italian in the mix but I only heard my grandmother mention it once.

I've been thinking of learning more about my mother's side of the family, but I don't even know where my grandfather was born. I'll look into it during the Christmas holidays.

Also, interstingly both my grandfather and great grandfather were on the far right, my great grandpa was even quite involved in fascist (maybe more proto fascist) veteran organisations. But they hated Germans more than they hated Jews and Communists, so they still fought against the Nazis.

No, I actually live in Britain. My parents moved here after the Soviet Union fell. I was born here which is why I also use the flag.
