the Euro (not the EU) is a bad idea.
Those countries relied on periodical devaluations to make their industry competitive, and they cant do that anymore.
On the other side the Euro is good for Germany because a country that exports so much with huge superavits like them, would see their currency revalue greatly under normal circumstances, making their exports less competitive.
the situation was very different in the 90s before the Euro.
>>2822718
could Mediterranean states successfully ally with eachother if the EU collapsed?
>>2823013
if the EU collapsed worst problems would be
-everybody loses their savings (or the savings are converted to the national currency, which would surely see a huge devaluation)
-contracts in Euros are broken, so a lot of lawsuits.
it would be a situation similar to the 2001 Argentine crisis, and that is what has kept EURO countries inside the EU.
the other big problem is they have extremly low birth rates, comparable to Japan.

The decline and fall of the Roman Empire. These regions used to be the pinnacle of civilization.
Bad policy making/geography
>Spain Portugal focus more on mercantilist policies in the new world, extracting raw resources while Britain adopts increasingly more free trade policies through its colonies and use of labor. They fall behind
>Italy not united, open to North Africa incursions, and a playground for the great powers until late 19th, country isn't developed (mostly south). World war II less than 100 years later
>Balkans fucked by your centuries' eastern menace, Turks, then soviet communism until late 21st
Your "traditional" European powers were protected by these border countries

> implying that England didn't transition to a free market economy once their industry kickstarted
Kek. Delusional fag. Britain just didn't get its industry destroyed in the Napoleonic wars unlike Portuguese and Spanish industry.

>Italy

This guy is correct. The people have exactly what they bargained for.
>>2823277
This. Britain did jackshit other than staying in their little island while continentals were killing each other. It is extremelly fun how Brits try to find innovation and cunning in their succes while in reality they were just lucky enough to not be connected by land to Europe
>>2822718
all i see is a bunch of great countries desu.

Anything is better than Northern and Central Europe atm with all the Islamism and radical feminism and privilege checking and mass surveillance. It's probably always been better as it's actually has a culture and doesn't go through autistic movements every couple hundred of years beginning with Latinization and Christianization, followed by Reformations and National Socialism and attempts at colonizing nigger countries. Don't even get us started on eastern Europe.
>muh debt
You can't be Slavic or Albanian and Southern European. Just no. Greece is the only Southern European/Mediterranean country in that one peninsula.
Southern Europe is among the best places on earth.

Greeks are pretty much modern day Turks. So I guess Turkey is now a Mediterranean country, too?

>So I guess Turkey is now a Mediterranean country, too?
Yes, obviously it is, idiot. Here's a little guide to help you decide such things:
>Q: Does it have a coastline on the Mediterranean?
>Y: It's a Mediterranean country
>N: It isn't a Mediterranean country.

Feminism and leftism is very VERY prominent in Spain nowadays.
This map is making my eyes bleed
>Balkans included
>Northwest Iberia included
>Southern France excluded

Lol not like Britain invented the industrial revolution or anything, sure that had nothing to do with it
>>2824375
Is it Europe? Is it South?
Then is Southern Europe.
>>2824394
The industrial revolution wasn't invented you retard. It just happened when all the Europeancpowers got their manufacturing sectors weakend due the demograohic decline of the Napoleonic wars.
>>2824421
Then you should not use geographic labels.
>>2824421
>We ain't talkin geography nigga
Then what the fuck ARE you talking about? What possible connection do Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia and Greece have, if not the GEOGRAPHICAL fact that they are in southern Europe?
