Not particularly. But neither were the Greeks. Real history doesn't have "good guys" and bad guys. But moral ambiguity upsets retards.
>>
They were fighting a war of aggression. You can't be a good guy if you make war for territories(money, resources)
>>
>>2157836
Of course not. But they were brown which means it's trendy to say they were the good guys

Your motives might not be selfless altruism but you might be bringing peace to war stricken lands.
>>
>>2157947
This
Despite an arguably much """better""" society, it was a war of aggression. You don't get to just invade, kill, and tax foreigners because by 2016 AD standards you appealed to a leftist sense of tolerance.
>>
>>2157947
>They were fighting a war of aggression.

Not really. Athens was supporting rebellions in Persian territory. Is that not an act of war?
>>
>>2157970
>Persian territory.

You mean the territory that was originally Greek(e.g the Western coast of Turkey), that was annexed by the Persians?

Well yeah, duh.
>>
>>2157947
>They were fighting a war of aggression

This is actually a myth.

Athens had aided Miletus in its attempts to revolt against the Persians. The first invasion was an attempt by Darius to punish them. The second was by Xerxes to punish them for defeating his father.

Athens can be seen as being essentially the Taliban and Persia the U.S, doing a police action of sorts.

they were colonies so leftists probably view the invasion as anticolonial

The entire point of 300 isn't to be a historically accurate film that has a deep meaning and morals, it's meant to be a film told by an unreliable narrator who skews the story in favour of the Spartans.

In actual war, there are no good guys and bad guys.
>>

Full moral ambiguity is autistic though

the culture where the kids will have their fun by hunting and beating their slave into death as a spartan teaching

Athens instigated the war through their actions along the Ionian coast, but Persia trying to conqueror the entire Greek peninsula made their war unjust since there was no such thing as Greece back then. It would be like conquering Canada and Mexico just to get to America. So >>2157918 and >>2157841 were right.
>>

>Is everyone a nu male nowadays?

Yes.

Hating on "nu-males" is just a way for internet people to feel superior to their peers or 'kids these days'.

Its the new fedora.
>>
>>2157836
I'd say say they were half bad. They were in the right because Athens helped the Ionian revolt. They were in the wrong because they tried to take all of Greece instead of just Athens
>>
it doesnt matter, not a word he says. so what they kept slaves? the persians were invading sovereign lands, they had the right to protect their way of life.

>Spartans weren't free men because they had slaves
Actually that's why they considered themselves free men, they were all free because they had their helots to do all the work, while they trained purely for war so any Persian invading would have faced free spartan men.
>Persia is awesome because it didn't have slaves
This is judging historical civilizations with modern morality which shouldn't be done, even if they didn't have "slaves" there were almost certainly lower class people who were treated poorly. Slavery was common back then and we shouldn't hold one nation higher than another just because the people that were forced into backbreaking labor in their nation weren't called "slaves".
>Sparta was good because they defended Athens and Athens was a democracy, but Athenians were privileged white shitlords so it doesn't count.
This whole bit is hilarious, Sparta is remembered as the good guys because they made a suicidal last stand against an innumerable invading, force they didn't stand a chance against that wanted to conquer and rule Sparta, it takes a lot of mental hoop-jumping to somehow come to the conclusion they are the bad guy in this scenario. They weren't trying to defend Democracy, most of Greece wasn't Democratic, and people talked about Greece as the birthplace for Western Civilization long before Democracy was in vogue. (unrelated, but I think it's funny how he mention Socrates was killed for thought-crime when the main thought crime he committed was talking about how bad democracy was).
>Multiculturalism is good

Well, it is Cracked.
>>
While the video is pretty dumb it does highlight the interesting issue that we as Westerners perceive ancient history through the Greco-Roman point of view and are thus scewed. We consider the Persians to be barbaric invaders when in reality they were the advanced, civilized empire adventuring in the Greek backwater. Alexander the Great was just another "warlord leads barbarian army and topples civilized empire" episode.

>You mean the territory that was originally Greek(e.g the Western coast of Turkey), that was annexed by the Persians?
Those Greek colonies were previously under the rule of Lydia (Croesus), when that dumb faggot declared war and lost against the Persians and submitted his kingdom to them the Greek colonies were rightfully passed to their control.
>>
>>2163666
There's nothing "nu-" about that though.
>>
>>2164280
you say that like shooting up a school is definitively bad or something maybe take a less black and white approach to such an action

I remember reading historical articles on Cracked. From time to time they were able to find some really obscure shit like an article about criminal underground in early 20th century Hong Kong but also made up some nonsense to appear more interesting. They fucking made me believe that John Quincy Adams was looking for the race of mole people in the Arctic.
>>
It actually makes sense for Americans to like a nd justify the Persian empire.

Both have the same modus operandi as empires.
