The Japanese are masters of adapting elements of other cultures.

From the Chinese they got their writing system, rice culture, and early high culture

From the Manchu, horseback archery.

Then the Europeans arrived. They got guns and better boats from the Spanish and Portuguese.

Then they just got general science and shit from the Dutch for 200 years.

The the Americans arrived and dragged them in the 19th century.

But they lost interest. So the French and British moved in, modernised the fuck out of the army, then they had a little proxy war, the British won. But the Emperor who was supposed to fight to expel the barbarians just turned around and said "lolno, come in we're open guys."

He sent an embassy around the world, who came back saying they had a lot of shit to catch up on.

So they took the British and French navy, the French and German army, the British education system, French laws with a British-German constitution on top, and then just a mix of industry from Britain, America, France, Germany.
