What are you studying, /his/? What are your ambitions after you finish?

As for mine:
>Study economics with a minor in philosophy
>Attend law school
>Practice law in some quietNew England town (See: Burlington VT)
Ultimate Reach goals:
>Get in the public eye somehow, become "famous" local, perhaps through some high profile case
>Run for small local government position i.e. Mayor
>Eventually run for something larger like Senator or Governor

A man can dream
>>
>>1463401
OP you should become a selectman or other local politician. it's easy as fuck as long as you promote yourself well! small towns just vote for whoever's name they've been seeing around. my friend just did that.

Degrees Attained:
>B.Mus. in Music Tecnology
>M.Sc. in Acoustics
Degrees Undertaking
>M.Clinical Audiology

I'm gonna work as an audiologist and teacher, preferably overseas (US citizen here). The audiology will give me some prestige and a well-paying day job to always rely one, the rest of my degress and experience will give me lots of opportunities for teaching and consulting work. Designing headphones, labs, listening rooms, music and medical facilities all fall under my various areas of expertise.

c-course this doesn't really have much to do with /his/ I guess

>move towards post-scarcity

How does one become recognized for philosophy nowadays with the widespread access of books for everybody.

Is it still by being part of an intellectual group and having your works spread to other intellectual books until international recognition, or would it be different nowadays due to the internet and other mass media?
>>
which party would you run for?
>>
>>1464810
not o'pea but most local elections are non-partisan and thus non-declared. mayoral races might be a little more partisan but in all the new english towns around me they just have boards of selectman, councilors, or aldermen and they don't run on a party platform. it's because there's no reason to have political parties at the town board level, they don't appoint judges, call hearings, push through majorities to pass or block legislation, etc. it's basically the board of directors at a company, they work-out strategies, balance the budget, and hire town employees. it don't matter if they declare a party or not.

You have to come up with an intolerably esoteric online "movement" like Object Oriented Ontology or alternatively you can write clickbait for buzzfeed

>How does one become recognized for philosophy nowadays with the widespread access of books for everybody.

You bother getting a PhD. There's a difference between more people being knowledgeable about a topic, and you going through the motions of a huge bureaucracy to get the correct merits.

Or, you can try your luck as an autodidact and start writing books on the topic.

I have a friend who studies it, and he says it's a whole lot of fun.

I don't know about career prospects though.
>>
>About to finish a degree in Geology
>Not very good at actually *doing* science though pretty capable of understanding concepts
>Somewhat strong writer

It's probably going to be the science journalism route for me unless I get my programming chops in shape.
>>
Im starting translation in september, pretty excited about it. I'd like to become a freelance translator (after getting experience of course).

If things work out and if I have the time and the disposition maybe I'll pursue another degree. Could be history or linguistics.
>>
>>1465408

Are you trying to do written or real-time translation? Also, what language(s)?

I didn't do well enough in state exams to study law so my dad made me repeat them.

If I get a high enough score, I'll study law and then probably try to get a gig as a legal consultant for a company or something like that.

Failing that, I'll continue working shitty construction jobs and drinking my wages as God intended.

Written translation.

English/french to spanish.

Want to finish my history degree at Oxford, maybe a PhD, teach and write. Perhaps run for office a little while after that.

Social Sciences with Licensure for undergrad, so if shit hits the fan I can teach history in a high school. American Studies Master. Found a program in Germany that sounds great. Will learn German and learn some Americas history. History of ideas related Master. What I want to focus on. Likely 16th century Europe. Doctorate in the same field. Adjunct or assistant professorship in smallish education focused university.

> Study history with a minor in japanese culture and language

I studied philosophy because I'm fucking retarded

I'm studying mathematics, I only have a few more months left and I could not be happier to be finished with the degree. My goals for the next couple of years are to go into Peter Pan mode and start going on adventures. I'm going to hike the PCT next spring with my buddy, then go overseas and try to pick up a new language (probably Hebrew).

Ultimately, I want to get involved working on a large global issue. Some kind of work for an NGO with a lot of travel and opportunity to interact with folks from the developing world. I haven't put too much thought or work into it yet.
>>
I would love to study history or archeology and hopefully get a PhD, but is it a wise choice if i'm not particularly interested in becoming a teacher?
>>
I just enrolled in History at the university. I am very excited.
My goal is to discover trails of Aryan migrations and to study racial differences.

Architecture.

Honestly don't know if I want to practice or not. I love doing the job but most architects don't hit the sweet spot in their career till their 60s

I'm doing an MA first before trying my hand in a PhD program. My advisors recommended it as my undergrad was at an unranked state uni, plus this place is funding me (yes, funding as an MA student). It's at NIU (nothing fancy but they send their grad students to places like Princeton with funding so I'm happy with my prospects.

computer science.

I wish to get a job where I have to do as little as possible and be able to read books while passing time while making enough money to pay for an apartment and occasional travel.

really I'd want to be a night guard like those fat people in american movies but I don't know if that profession really exists anymore. the real reason I'm getting a college education is so I can feel superior to people who don't.

>What are you studying
electrical engineering

>What are your ambitions after you finish
I'm working at a co-op right now for an engineering firm, and I like it so far. Ideally probably something design and testing based like I'm doing now. It's a pretty comfy mix of deskwork and building so it's never too dull or physically demanding.

pic somewhat related: a design for a digital circuit I made for a project at school
