It depends on the quality of the memes. Most packages of ten are garbage with the exception of one or two decent ones and run about 5 to 15 sheckles. When I bought mine, there were over one hundred circulated commons pepes in them with about twenty uncirculated. Out of the uncirculated, only two were decent.

It's kind of a long story. feelsbadman.jpg was one of the earlier memes that we (and to a lesser extent, plebbit) got autistically possessive over, and once it was spread further out onto the internet and reused in "lel so relatable XD" edits the rage just boiled over until at some point it was edited into REEEEEEE FUCKING NORMALFAGS GET OUT by the then-young /r9k/. They (and 4chan as a whole) then started coming up with weirder and more bizarre edits, which the wider internet as a whole took up ironically, making them as "rare" as possible to mock the elitism behind the whole thing. The frog's original name, Pepe re-emerged at some point, presumably to try and cut any ties to the now-normified feelsbadman.

The whole alt-right stuff was when /pol/tards decided make a cult of "meme magic" (unrelated to the ACTUAL meme magic that made baneposting crash a plane) around:
>Pepe being their mascot
>The board getting a supposedly-unusual number of gets (which is just because it's so fast on there)
>The Egyptian god Kek, personified by a frog and linked to chaos
>The Italian song Shadilay by P.E.P.E., with a frog holding a magic wand on its album art
>Trump himself having retweeted a pepe-ified edit of himself
and then, allegedly used said meme magic to influence the US election. One by-product of this was that the Cult of Kek was such a major thing across the net that it broke into the mainstream (a lot thanks to a Clinton speech being interrupted by someone shouting "PEPE!") and, because of its overuse by /pol/, Pepe in all his incarnations was listed as a hate symbol in the US.

But mostly, for those of us who aren't stormniggers or snowflakes, it's still just for reaction images and shitposting.

There was a legend I once heard about the rarest pepes.
The story starts in Berlin 1945. The germans were clearly losing the war. Hitler and the other higher ups were becoming desperate to find a way to turn the tide in their favor. In secret bunkers they began a project using religious artifacts recovered from all over the globe. One of these artifacts was a small statue of the god kek recovered from north africa.
The hope was that praying to these artifacts would grant the germans favor with any of the gods out there. They knew this was crazy but they would try anything at this point.
The setup was basically they had 1 person on each artifact praying at all times 24/7. one of the people they had doing this was an artist and he took a liking to the kek statue. so every day he would request the kek statue and pray to it for about 10 hours before going home and painting a bit before bed.
after about 2 weeks of this the dude starts acting strange. Requesting longer shifts, getting angry if someone else is praying to the kek statue, that sort of shit. By this time the russians were on the doorstep of Berlin and the project was going to be disbanded. When artist dude is told the project was over he gets livid but is eventually turned away from the bunker.
No one sees him for days. no one was looking for him though. Shells were blowing apart houses and troops were pouring into the city.
Eventually some russians find a half blown apart house with the artist dude in it. Glass from a window had blinded him in both eyes and he was half deaf. What was horrifying to the men who found him was he was painting when they found him. he was painting the image of a smug looking frog, and around him laid hundreds of paintings, all different renditions of this smug frog.

When the men approached him he didn't move. Just kept painting. eventually they start shouting and he finally notices them and start yelling back. no one knows what the hell is going on (language barriers and all) so the men restrain him and take him away.
eventually artist dude has an interpreter brought to him. he strikes up a deal with the russians. He tells them the location of this bunker and in exchange he gets the statue of kek and is get free.
once at the location of the bunker they find it mostly collapsed due to heavy shelling in the area. After some digging the russians do find the artifacts and hold onto their part of the deal mostly due to the fact the statue was made of an almost worthless stone.
Artist dude takes the statue and just starts walking east.

It's about 20 years befor artist dude pops up again. He is found lying on the side of the road about 50 miles northeast of moscow.
he is taken the the hospital and is is very bad condition, malnourishment, cancerous tumors are visible, the doctor wasn't sure how he is still breathing.

there is a small effort to find the place the old blind painter was talking about but it was called off after a guy got lost in the woods and attacked by wolfs when looking for the paintings. after that I don't think there is any info on the paintings out there.

so out there... somewhere in the wilds of russia. There are god knows how many paintings of what can only be pepe, made by a blind german man, guarded only by a statue of a egyptian god.
literally no one has seen these paintings. not even the man who made them. They are the rarest of all pepes. I'm not sure if I would want them to be found. the moment they are seen... they lose their rarity. I hope kek put a curse on them so they will never be found.
