AMD RYZEN 7 1700 for 367 usd, and the Ryzen 7 1700x for 400 usd. Is it worth getting the 1700x considering the price difference?
Hell, in some places the 1700x is at 490 usd, with that difference of cash i could get a decent cpu cooler.

with 1700x vs 1700, its about overclocking
1700x gives you some extra hz without the need for OC
and you should know that ryzen in windows does not downclock for most mobos, so if you OC to 3.9 it stays at that frequency at idle
though what should be also said that I have wattmeter and when I oced there was no obvious difference between idle on OC and idle on stock, nor temps didnt look any different. Its kinda strange. When I have gpu that does not downclock its temps are 20°C higher...

anyway I am on linux and there it seems to downclock no problem, dunno whats up with that.

mostly its about millions of consumer notebooks and PCs going for ssds while no new nand factories were build

as for ssd I personally had good experience with WD Reds, I like that the most because they are relatively cheap and very quiet, had few others in my case...

The majority of people here buy Sata III NAND SSD's, the influx to notebooks are almost all going to m.2, since for gaming you won't notice a difference. Desktop SSD's are still fine, in fact the Samsung 850 Evo's have been dropping in price, you can find a 500gb one for 149 on newegg as we speak though it was 139 a few weeks ago. Is there more sauce to that claim than a rep from Kingston?

You're thinking of i9. Threadripper is actually fairly low power consumption and heat considering it has 16 cores. 7900x consumes more power and runs hotter than 1950x and it's just 10 cores. I'm really curious to see how big of a housefire the 18 core will be.

I mean you should definitely do that to get rid of miners, but it's not worth doing it just for the hardware - their cards will be all stressed and used-out. You really don't want to be using second-hand miner hardware, unless you have enough spares that you don't care if it randomly fails on you or something.

There's literally nothing the Ryzen processors won't emulate as well as the 7700k outside of BotW on Cemu. But even then you're talking about single frame differences that's mainly due to the application itself and not the processor. Don't worry about emulator performance unless you're getting a really cheap processor.

i5's are generally not worth it these days, with 1600s performing very similarly in single threaded perf but having drastically more multithreaded perf.

But, if you absolutely need moar single thread you should be buying a 6700k, 7700k, or maybe the 8700k if it doesn't shit up the intel bingbus method of keeping latency down. Really, the 7700k might be the last low latency single threaded chip intel releases if they fully transition to mesh.

Probably not, and it's not like they all use a single core but truthfully the work fine for the most part. As much shit as PCSX2 gets it plays 99% of games just fine and stuff like Dolphin works amazing. PPSSPP is also amazing and most older systems have a variety of emulators available to suit your needs. Only real demanding ones right now are Cemu and RPCS3 but those are pretty early in development so having the most powerful processor in the world wouldn't make those games suddenly play okay.

the nature of emulation requires them to have a heavy single thread, as that's generally how most console chips function except for the ps3 which was the definition of too multicored to program easily for, which is why its emulator is slightly multicored.

There's obviously a huge issue with the software stack, because major issues with the front end are STILL not resolved despite being referenced in their own whitepaper. This isn't even including their "fast path" version of primitive discard, of which neither version is working. On top of that , the drawstream binning rasterizer isn't working either. It's an utter shitshow and they haven't made any real progress since december, so the launch happening in august is just embarassing.

Hi /g/ I got a bonus at my job that lets me spend 500 euros (600 USD) on hardware I want.
Unfortunately the site that agreed to it for some reason doesn't want you to buy independent parts, for god knows what reason.
I was planning to get a GPU but I can't. I'm only interested in the shitty overprice prebuilt PCs (could try to sell it but noone will buy it probably), and the monitors.
Should I go for a 4k monitor? I'm not knowledgeable on this. I like playing videogames but I read 4K is a meme right now because not enough games support it and a 1080TI barely handles 4K or something like that.
So is it just not worth buying it at all or is it a good investment if i can get it for free? Also read that 1440p/144hz is the best thing to buy

Honestly most gamers want 144Hz 1440p for a smoother, fluid gaming experience for optimal reaction times. If you just want to feel like you are watching an HD movie while playing I guess it could be an option.

You will probably need a 1080 ti if you want to play at that resolution though. Maybe lower the graphic settings a bit.

I should have probably mentioned it in my post. I want IPS because I often want to watch movies from my bed and doing that with my current monitor (TN) is godawful since the viewing angles and colors are all fucked.

The Ryzen 5 1400 seems like the ideal fit for you imo. If you do a little bit of streaming, the extra threads will help. Just be honest with yourself. If you are a real casual streamer, a Ryzen 1200 and Shadowplay would suit you fine. If you are doing it on a weekly basis or more often, the Ryzen 1400 or 1600 makes more sense plus you can use CPU encoding if you really prefer that. Also you are pretty safe with the AM4 socket, you got a clear upgrade path for the next few years.

Btw, for anybody interested in 144hz gaming, be aware that means you are either A: Going to pay out the ass, or B: settle for a shitty TN panel. I ended up going for a $200 freesync 144hz monitor, and i hate it a lot. I was using a $90 aoc ips panel that I was able to get to stay stable at 65hz, and it looks so much better. You want a Gtx 1060 6gb or maybe a gtx 1070.
You don't need to spend $200 on a motherboard. You don't need to get a top-tier power supply. A reasonably priced quality unit won't catch fire on you. Get a bronze or gold 600-ish watt unit, semi modular. The main advantage of full modular over semi is using custom cables, which I doubt you will.
Everyone's storage needs are different, so this part may be incorrect for you. but most gamers need quite a fair bit of storage space. 500gb tends to fill up pretty quick. The solution for most gamers is to get a 1tb spinning hard drive and a 128-275ish gb ssd for boot and their most played one or two games. Your mileage may vary.
3200mhz ram is very far into diminishing returns, even on ryzen. Go with 2800mhz or 3000mhz for decently cheaper.

Is there any real world difference between the i5 3570 and i5 4590? I'm broke and want to replace my X230 with a desktop since I'm only using it docked with an eGPU setup right now anyways but used Optiplexes with the 4590 go for like $40-50 more on average over the 3570

Yeah that strix board looks good. Other good ATX boards in that price range include MSI b350 tomohawk, MSI b350 gaming pro carbon. ASRock Fatal1ty AB350, MSI - B350 KRAIT GAMING. There's a gigabyte one in that price range, though i wish It had more heatsinks on the overclocking bits.

Finally moving from an 9 year old MicroATX prebuilt I got when I was 14.
1.3ghz, integrated graphics of a notebook back then, 4 gigs of ram, blah blah it's shit. Even the monitor is a 13 year old T19-1, a future gift to my grandkids.

Well there's no homeserver thread so I'll post here.

Looking to build a new "server", essentially just an always on desktop, but very much aiming for something low-power/wattage usage since it'll be 24/7, and small form-factor. 8GB RAM minimum, need 1xPCI-E.

Really not sure what parts to pick from, and need some suggestions for mobo and RAM, and if I should get an SSD or just run off a USB 3.0 stick? Majority of data will be on a 4/8TB HDD.

If you really want intel, then I would personally get a 7th gen rig going, with ryzen here and coffee lake around the corner, there are a lot of good deals on motherboards and 7th gen processors. A 7700K is still overkill for pretty much any game today, and you can use the extra shekels to get a 1080ti which is the main performance factor if you want to get high frames at higher resolutions.

So /pcbg/ I bought my system 3 years ago and when I bought it I bought a x87 extreme6 mobo because it was on sale half off but I was retarded and bought incompatible ram with it.It worked fine for years and now it wont post.
