I didn't see a Completely Retarded Thread, so perhaps my question is most suited here.
I trying to learn more about computer architecture, and the book I just picked up says:
"The examples in this book are based on Intel-compatible processors (called "IA32" by Intel and x86 colloquially) running C programs on Unix or Unix-like OSs."
My computer is running on an AMD. Does this mean the book is now useless to me?

What's up,

If u were more scrutiny while playing with yourself, I wouldn't write dis message. I don't think that playing with yourself is extremely bad, but when all colleagues, relatives and friends receive video record of it- it is undoubtedly {bad news.

I placed malisious soft on a porn site which you have visited. When the target tap on a play button, device starts recording the screen and all cameras on your device begins working.

Moreover, soft makes a remote desktop supplied with key logger function from your device , so I could collect all contacts from ur e-mail, messengers and other social networks. I've chosen this e-mail cuz It's your working address, so u should read it.

I think that 320 usd is pretty enough for this little false. I made a split screen vid(records from screen (u have interesting tastes ) and camera ooooooh... its awful AF)

So its ur choice, if u want me to delete this compromising evidence use my bitcoin wallet address-

You have one day after opening my message, I put the special tracking pixel in it, so when you will open it I will know.If ya want me to show u the proofs, reply on this message and I will send my creation to five contacts that I've got from ur device.

P.S. You are able to complain to police, but I don't think that they can solve ur problem, the inquisition will last for several months- I'm from Belarus - so I dgf LOL

Its the regular fanboys war between intel and amd they both sell CPUs for the same customer, this year Amd launched Ryzen and /g/ exploded because it blows intel on every area at a lower price, of course it was to be expected because intel has been rising the prices more than performance on new CPUs.

>implying anybody will answer me

I saw in my portmaster output that a port I use on a daily basis has no maintainer, and I thought it would be nice to take over and give something back since I've never done anything like that before.
I went through all the porting documentation, and studied the makefiles, and noticed the the port in question actually makes use of an unmaintained branch of the software and is not only way, way behind the latest version, but also packages a bunch of stuff that hasn't been updated for fucking years.
I ended up making and testing a simplified port with just the base software + docs using the newest release without the extra stuff.

Now for the question: is it okay to submit this stripped down port to FreeBSD or will I get laughed off the internet for daring to remove functionality from a port?
>>

Guys, can I easily transfer files between two Windows 10 PCs using an ethernet cable?

If not, what's the best way to transfer about 500GB in 10 hours or less?

What I have:
>really shitty wifi, about 6MB/s transfer rate leading to 20 hours until completion
>a router that's kinda far from my desktop, and some relatively short ethernet cables
>a ~55GB USB stick
I'd love to just connect both computer with an ethernet cable, but I have absolutely no clue whether that would work, or how to get it to work if it requires any setup. If not, I guess I'll have to drag some stuff around to arrange a wired LAN.

You can create a shared folder (properties -> sharing on a folder), then on the other pc in windows explorer click "network" on the left-side panel, find your first computer, log in and you'll find the shared folder. That's what I'm doing over wifi.

My question is specifically about NOT using a router, but just connecting the two pcs with an ethernet cable in a sort of ad-hoc network. Could that work at all?

More ram does not give you more game FPS period.
What dual channel ram will do assuming you will go with two 8GB DDR3 sticks is more bandwidth which will speed up rendering videos and some scientific calculations/specific loads.
Faster ram does not give you more FPS in games unless you use integrated GPU like IntelHD since that gpu is using the system ram to operate.
Get another stick and dont think about it.

I'm assuming Android, in which case just do it in Java and download the official Android Studio IDE. It's such a simple app, and using a different language will be painful, so just stick to the standard stuff.

For iOS, their development ecosystem is about as gated as their user ecosystems (along the lines of needing a mac to be able to develop iOS apps). There are third-party tools and frameworks that let you bypass that though. You'll need to do some research.

If there's no normal way, perhaps somebody could spoonfeed me a cmd or powershell script to execute several separate copy jobs sequentially? I'm sure it can't be complicated (it would take me about 5 seconds to type out on POSIX) but I really, really can't into windows CLIs

I finally finally found a beautiful vim theme I love in every way that doesn't make my eyes bleed.

Only trouble is its like 13 years old and from vim.org. It doesn't have great syntax support and neither does its vivify clone. The diff is the default ugly (but usable) one.

How do I get a modern version? Am I going to have to take a more fully rounded theme with better syntax highlighting like jellybeans and manually replace all the gui and console colour codes myself. I guess I could release it if I did that.

Pic related its so basic it fits on one screen.

Buy a raspberry pi and dick about with it. Honestly the best way to learn is by necessity though. So try and think of a pi project I guess? Or install linux on your PC and make some project there

Right now at work I'm creating a git-push auto-deploy thing on a linux server. Lots and lots of bash scripting (which is your basic linux command line stuff). Also its a server so no gui obviously.

There's Mixer and Smashcast.

Twitch is the least technically advanced but has the largest audience.
Youtube has the most features but limits you in a lot of way, has terrible integration with normal Youtube, and you'd be supporting Google.
Smashcast.tv is basically Twitch but slightly less stream latency and not run by any of the big evil 3.
Mixer is the most technically advanced but the smallest in audience and run by Microsoft.

Degree doesn't mean as much as good experience. Sure, at 18 it's not a bad idea to spend a few years and bag a degree, as long as you don't end up fucked by debt, but at your stage I think you need to learn everything yourself, as much as possible. is there a different term or description than "ambient occlusion" that you can include in a graphics options menu? i think ambient occlusion is something normal people won't be familiar with and it's a nightmare to try to translate it to different languages. i don't want to put "soft shadows" because i associate it with the penumbra of a shadow cast by direct lighting (the sun) instead of ambient occlusion which is the shadow cast by the surrounding lighting (the sky).

My ethernet cable broke and I tried to fix it myself. I cut off the plug, put on a new one and clamped it. The order of the internal wires is the same as in the original plug and the cable is working. Though before my cable broke, it worked at 1 Gbps capacity, now it only reaches 100 Mbps. It also takes a while before the LAN LEDs light up and Windows "notices" that a cable is connected. Intel reports a cable length of 255 m (cable is only 5 m), which leads me to think it's experiencing a high impedance or some other bug.

Any hints on what the problem could be or what I should check?

Pic related: top is my 2nd attempt. My first attempt was the same (maybe a little bit better) but I chose to try again to rule out user error. The bottom one (Equip) is the original plug where the clip broke off and physical connection became unreliable.

The cable is a cat 5e straight-through.It's used to connect my Thinkpad to my desktop for file sharing and internet through a network bridge. Desktop and laptop both support 1 Gbps connections.

I need more RAM. What's the difference between RAM? Different between RAM brands, even? What's the difference between the different Mhz of RAM? I know that DDR4 is faster, but how so? Is it really noticeable?
>>
>>62419535
>Is it really noticeable?
Not unless you really try and get what you pay for.
>difference between ram
Different generations of ram.
>Difference between brands
some glow in the dark
>Difference in frequency
It's not much of a real difference unless you're from 2006
>>
>>62419569
So basically, get any RAM that I can afford and it doesn't really matter for muh gayming? What about mixing RAM? Do they have to be of the same frequency? Same brand, maybe? Same DDRX?

As long its not a nameless chink brand no difference.

Same speeds and timings if you can, some motherboards are picky about it but high end motherboards dont care at all.

When you mix RAM the higher speed RAM will automatically downgrade itself to match the lower speed sticks. Different brands can work together, only thing that really matters is making sure the voltage is the same I believe.

You should prefer the same brand and model. Different brands and/or models may not sync up properly to allow for dual/triple/quad channel memory support. Intel is more forgiving about this with their "Flex Memory" thing.
>>
>>62419356
You can with Linux. Windows will shit itself, if it even boots it will complain about how your hardware all changed and it needs to install like 500 device drivers and probably tell you that you need to buy windows again.
>>
>>62418990
These days swap space is basically just used to prevent out of memory (OOM) errors. Make your swap space at least as big as the most memory intensive application you're going to run. While you may not really use swap space one benefit is that disks are so slow compared to RAM that if you do run out of memory the application will slow to a crawl trying to write to disk which will give you time to figure out what is causing the leak and stop it. No swap and the kernel will just immediately terminate the application causing the leak even if it's in the middle of something important.

I have an x230t that came with Windows 7 that I've upgraded to 8 > 8.1 > 10 whenever the new releases came out.

I've noticed the performance has gotten kinda shit recently so I think I'm going to go ahead and buy an SSD to upgrade.

Would you recommend I do a clean install of Windows 10 on my new SSD and transfer over the files I want or just clone my current HDD to the new SSD and keep going.

My instinct is to clone and see if performance is better before I do the extra work of tracking down whichever key I would need to install Windows 10 with on the clean drive and then going through the various folders/files to see what I would want to carry over.

What do you guys think? Is the extra effort worth it or do you think its fine to just kick the can down the road for another year? I don't think I'm going to replace the laptop for another few years at least, especially if the SSD upgrade is as life-changing as everyone makes it sound.

Thanks!

ddr4 is a newer standard and it won't fit in ddr3 slots

if your current ram is ddr3 then your motherboard is only compatible with ddr3
if your motherboard uses ddr4 you can only use ddr4
you have no choice either way

basically the only things you really care about unless you're making a high performance web server are
>am i buying the right ram that will actually fit in my machine?
and
>how many gb is it?

if you fell for the ryzen meme you need the fastest ram you can get that your motherboard supports

Hey /g/, for a project I need to download music (mp3 are even ok, it's not about audio quality, more about database management and scraping). I don't personally listen to music, so I don't know where people download it.

My question is where can I download songs with metadata in mp3 format? And is there a website that has album arts that could be scraped?

Ran it both before and after this happened. I used to use WDS to find useless files like old savegames etc to delete but just had too much crap that i can't move to another drive.

Same with Desktops, RAM slots have numbering in them, usual 1/2 or 1/2/1/2

Always fill 1 first then 2. There's probably a reason why it's designed like that but hey, whatever works

just bought a psp slim (couldn't repair mine and bought the new one that is pretty cheap)
.
it boots and works with music and all that stuff but when I try to play any game it always hangs during the game boot and the memstick indicator won't even blink or light up then it fucking turns off.

I tried this fix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGRV9KX3btk&t=0s

then changed the driver to M33 and out of nowhere I was able to only boot a single game

I think the issue here is that my memstick is already corrupted and dirty. Even tried using microsd to memstick adaptor but it seems that the sd card is also dirty (had to fsck the card on windows after trying to copy some games and the games don't even fucking appear at all)

PSP still had it's warranty sticker, never been opened (in fact I was the first one to open it. button flex are all original too).

Is this a hardware issue or it's just that my memstick cards are shitty?

I also plan on doing this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-6eEBsUVc0
