Air doesn't have to come from right in front of the fan. I have an S340 with a solid front panel. The air comes through the top and bottom.
Removing the front panel so that the intakes have nothing in front doesn't change temps, I've seen 1°C difference at most and 0 most of the time.

Like I mentioned before I got the C16 kit to work at 3066MHz. The mobo is an ASRock AB350 Pro4 with the AGESA 1.0.0.6a update. Given how well that went I doubt the Flare X or Trident Z C14 will struggle to work at full speed on the AB350 ITX, but I'll find out this weekend for sure if it needs some tweaking or not.
