I have two questions about Amazon.
1. I, for the first time, bought a kindle book on amazon instead of the hardcover, because i needed the book right away and couldnt wait. I noticed that the only way to pay for it was through One Click (R) payment.
It doesn't tell me HOW exactly i am paying for it. Credit card? debit card? i have more than one payment method on my amazon account.

2. i downloaded Amazon Kindle on my phone, and it also did this weird Instant Apps installation. i looked it up and it says Instant Apps can run apps on my phone without installing them. But i installed the Kindle viewer, so wtf is it running on my phone without my permission?

Is there a recommended software I can use to try and salvage some data from it?
>>
>>62368351
Pleb here. Without going through my life experiences thus far, just know I'm wanting to pic up software engineering, but unfortunately lack a lot of prerequisite knowledge. I have some experience programming in Java and (a little) in C (haven't gotten to pointers yet).
I'm trying to work through K&R 2e but my lack of knowledge of operating systems and computer architecture is holding me back. All I've ever used is Windows, so I would like to learn Unix (maybe linux or solaris?).
I got a book on computer architecture that uses examples "based on Intel-compatible processors running C programs on Unix or Unix-like OS."
The book says that if your computer runs WIndows you have two choices:
first, get acopy of linux and istal it as a dual boot option so your machine can run either
or
installing a cop[y of the Cygwin tools and have a Unix-like shell under windows.
My question is, will doing either of these affect the performance of my PC? And which would you recommend doing? Thanks.
>>
>>62370762
Just run any lightweight distro on a flash drive, then go into your bios settings and extend the boot window to 5 seconds. Most linux distros use very little resources.
>>
>>62370899
Cool, I will try this. Recommend any distros? I have heard Mint is good for beginners so I'm leaning towards taht. thanks btw
>>
>>62370932
I'll avoid the angry (You)s from certain distro fanboys and just say to use any babby-tier distro, which would be Mint (like you said) or Ubuntu, although Ubuntu is more resource intensive.

Should I get an external hard drive to back up my files? Does it just plug into the usb slot? Do they have a higher rate of failure?

I just want to back up a bunch of more torrented files that would be a huge pain in the ass to find again.
>>
>>62370932
I've never used mint but I do know that debian is pretty good. A "noob-friendly" distro like mint or ubuntu may not be the best choice of you're trying to learn more, since it never encourages you to go out of your way - you could probably use it just like windows, with a few differences such as installing packages for software.

So try out debian - it's very similar to ubuntu but does a bit less hand-holding. When you see something you don't understand, do the research needed to make an informed choice. Soon you will have a good idea of what the fuck Linux is and how to use it at a high level, what the differences between distros are, and you'll be able decide for yourself what to do next.
These mainstream distros also have a vast amount of documentation about every aspect, and plenty of people on forums and chats. So if you get lost, it's not going to be hard to find help.
t. installed Void as the first distro and had to figure everything out myself

Just back up your files every 3 months or whatever and keep the external backup HDD in a sealed enclosure or something, plenty of those on the market.

How big are all the torrent files combined? If it's less than a niggabyte, back them up over several small chinkshit external HDDs. They're very failure prone, but the chances of them all failing at once approaches zero. And yes, they do just plug in to the USB, but larger external hard drives may require you to drive the external HDD by plugging it in to a power outlet
as well.

>>62371080

Hey not him but when my HDD was dying I was able to like hold F8 when booting my laptop (making sure not to boot from HDD which would risk it dying entirely if not just stress it needlessly), boot from a Windows 7 recovery CD (burned the .iso to a USB), open notepad and through the notepad options was able to move the data to a different USB I had plugged into the laptop. I'm not sure if the steps are right, but provided the HDD can still be powered this may be the safest way to attempt to salvage data from it, provided an actual digital data recovery expert or however they might be called doesn't know a safer way.

how come my 360 controller isn't working on my laptop anymore?
I have a Hori playstation controller that works perfect still. I've noticed I consistently have problems with 360 controllers though. They work flawlessly at first, then they'll start getting finicky (like I have to keep them in the same position or else it will disconnect... same problem when I try to charge my phone on the laptop as well), and then they stop working completely. Usually the only remedy that works is to just purchase another 360 controller but that would be the 4th one and I just want to fix the issue. I know the controller isn't broken. When I go into device manager, theres nothing, no "unidentified usb device" or whatever, its as if nothing is even plugged in

Unless you really need the horsepower for some workstation grade tasks like constant 4k rendering, I think you should be OK. I would wait for intel to make a comeback on some good cpu's before you go and get one, I would suggest getting the i5 8500 or 9500 when it comes out.

It's hardware. It would be cheaper and better to get a new 200$ phone. Sure, you could get your phone fixed for 50$+ (depending on what's wrong with it), but it's likely it will break again.
Sell Z2 for parts, buy a Xiaomi phone or anything else cheap but good that's made in 2016/2017.

"Up to 32GB" means it can't use cards with higher storage density, aka newer ones with a different storage format. So anything 64GB+ won't work on it because it's designed differently.

I have a 1080p TV with HDMI inputs. It will not display a signal from Computer 1. But it displays from Computer 2. This appears to have started with no apparent cause after using the TV for about a year.

I've checked that Computer 1's output works on a different 1080p monitor. I've tried different HDMI cables. I've factory reset the TV and updated to the newest firmware, testing after each step. I've updated Computer 1's graphics drivers. I've tried all 3 HDMI inputs. Nothing.

Any ideas? I'd try another video card but I don't have one at the moment. But even then it's bizarre that it works fine with a different monitor at the same resolution and refresh rate. It's like my computer just decided it's had enough of the crappy TV's shit.

Why might an older CPU with inferior specs cost more than a slightly newer one with superior specs on the used market? Specifically, an i7 3770k vs a i7 4930k. Because of the integrated GPU?

Sometimes it's because the supply of a part has dried up, but people who need a replacement but can't/won't buy a new "infrastructure" (in the case of a CPU, things like mobo/RAM) and are willing to pay somewhat more of a markup as long as the price difference is still less than that of a new mobo etc.

I know you're talking newer CPUs but there's also the people who will pay almost anything for old shit because their shitty Windows 95 shitbox is running some kind of mission-critical function that can only be done with ancient programs and/or proprietary hardware, thus if they want to get a speed upgrade or something goes wrong with their CPU they've forced to pay exorbitant prices.

>>
>>62376139
I just tried that. What happens is the list of urls shows up, and on the right under download from, it says the url shortened link (click.tf, not the actual file downloading site), and when I try to mass copy, that shows up. Now, when I click on that column, two options pop up that say "copy download address to clipboard" and one says "source" with the url shortened link, and the other says "data" with the actual link, which is what I want, but I don't see any way to mass copy the data/actual link because this option only comes up when I click on an individual file, so I'm only able to do this for one file at a time. When I CTRL+A and copy to my clipboard, it's just the url shortened links. Another thing, because the filename isn't in the url link, I'd need to be able to copy that as well. The filename shows up under name in the left column, and it's in the JDownloader LinkGrabber section, but when I copy this stuff to my clipboard, it doesn't show up, and I don't know how I'd get it in there with the links. I'm going to need all that stuff together, so I can use the search feature in notepad or whatever to find the filename and associated link. Otherwise, I'd have to check through over 2 thousand links.

Hi hi, so earlier I asked how to reformat a partition so I could install Windows, and after doing so I attempted to install it again and now only get this screen. Before I did the reformat I could move forward up until it told me that I had to, but now I'm stuck at the very first screen (except now the background of the window is clear instead of white) and it won't detect my mouse. I'm using a USB 2 slot so the drivers shouldn't be the problem. Google tells me to get a mouse with a ps/2 cable since that sometimes worked, but I was going to see if anyone here knew any other way to fix it.

Multimeters tell you all kinds of useful things about electrical circuits - most often stuff like 'are these two points connected' and 'what's the voltage difference between these two points'. I don't know much about SSDs. What should I know about them? They seem to cost more for about the same capacity... I also heard they they lose data or something if not accessed for a long time or something like that. (I could be wrong, feel free to correct me)
>>
>>62380455
Thanks
>>
>>62380567
Yes, they do cost more per gb, but not nearly as much as they used to. HDDs are great for large secondary storage, but you really don't want to be running your OS/programs off of them in 2017. SSDs are waaaay faster. It will make your computer feel like a new one more than anything else. Most people get a 256 gb ssd and stick their files and shit on an HDD. Large games can go on an HDD, they'll mostly just take longer to load. Losing data because you didn't boot your SSD for several months in a row is theoretically possible, but I wouldn't worry about it. On the whole your shit's safer without moving parts, and pretty much anything negative you may have heard about SSDs only applied 5+ years ago when the tech was still broken as fuck. Also forget about defragmenting with SSDs.

The only reason to switch to intel is if you intend to game at the highest setting on the highest fps possible so you would want the i7 7700k. Anything else you AMD with their Ryzen lineup.

just open it with mpv and press right arrow 3 times (skips 5 seconds each time)
you can even make a key skip 15 seconds (or precisely the time of the intro) if you like

Absolute noob here

I just downloaded FF Nightly files from FF's page.
I extract the it Ark and then...?

I can't find the setup file or whatever, what do I do?

No, I want to understand how to install it manually
>>
Will adding more RAM consume extra power? I'm gonna up it to 32gb from the current 4gb and I wonder if this would make the laptop consume extra energy.
>>
One thing I hate about Nightly is that when the first file you save is larger than the next, if you save the next one before the first finishes downloading the save order on Windows will be reversed. This is unacceptable for things like manga scans. Is there a way to evade this at all? If so, how?

I'll try to word it quickly, I mean if file1 is 7mb, file2 is 24kb, 99% of the time file2 will be saved first even if file1 started downloading. This changes the Windows order, which I don't like. Is there a way to make the order you started each download reflect the Windows save order, no matter if the later ones finish downloading first?

You're never invoking your uuid function, just declaring it.
Try writing uuid(); under the function, also variable names do not need ""

How many Mbps does it take to see a significant difference in quality for a video. Wondering how high I should crank my bitrate for streaming. Seems odd that streaming is still 18Mbps max for partners on most sites but I can record at 130Mpbs
>>
>>62388452
Check the streaming site you are using, most limit free accounts to ~3500kbps.
4k 60fps requires 15mbps,but if the streaming service is limiting you to a certain rate you're just wasting cycles streaming at a higher rate
>>
>>62388644
Well I'm not doing 4K thankfully. The only thing that's hard is that the sites seem to fuck with you in that few actually tell you what their real limits are, and most of them recommend 3K anyways just because they don't want to bother transcoding down so if you want to stream at a high resolution and FPS you have to limit your bitrate for people with shitternet.

Really I just want someplace that I can stream decently high-quality, so that my fighting games don't look like a blurry mess to my friends, and have low latency with viewers so that people can play Jackbox games with me without having to use the Twitch account required option.
