Mozilla finally realized their mobile OS was never going to happen, and stopped putting most of their resources into it. Then somebody there said "Oh shit, we have browser!" And they've been "fixing it" ever since.

They've saved the best surprise for November.

I use flat screen for cytube.

Since my flat screen tv is a distance from the couch I increased the font size for readability.

When I take my laptop on the road and only use the laptop screen, I have to undoo all the font size increases.

Is there a easy way to switch between profiles? I though of creating a new user just for movies, but then the issue of Home directories comes up. My home is encrypted.

Anyone know if there is a application or setting that if the laptop is connected to flat screen 40 inch sammy, to have big fonts etc, but if just the laptop screen is used, default font size?

How do I turn my laptop into a home server?
Basically, I just want it so that I can access my chinese cartoons on my other laptop without using a separate HDD to transfer it.
Also, can I put a password on it? Since it would be a home network, I don't want people in my house viewing my private stuff.

I built a new rig a few weeks ago.

On two occasions all the peripherals (monitor ect) turn off, the pc sounds like it turns off but it stay on. Keeping the power key down does nothing, so I have to switch it off at the back.

What I have I done wrong? The PSU is 6 years old, but it showed no signs of failing on my previous rig, plus it has more than enough power. Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new one? Or could it be the motherboard? I have no idea.

Hey /g/. Total Chad here.
This saturday me and a few friends are going to throw a small party in a roof. We're going to use my pc to handle music playing and other stuff. Like, there's going to be a small super smash bros tourney, and one of the guys has a ddr mat to plug.
Sadly nobody has a cheap disposable laptop to use, so we're left with this.
The question is, how do I insulate the pc as best as possible? I thought of wrapping it in a big plastic bag. Any other ideas?
>>
>>62252940
They made an update out of nowhere that broke sound on several distros (contact your admin to install unwanted new packages today!) for basically no reason. Then they decided to kill every addon ever written before 2017, so that any addon NOT built from the ground up in the last few months will stop working when you update to firefox 57 this November. And they've replaced their old addon system (one of their top selling points) with a new one that neuters the fuck out of addons, and doesn't let them do half the shit the old ones could, unless the mozilla team decides to write a custom api for the addon. The kicker? It's only weeks away and only about 10% of the addons have even been converted. Most never will.

Do not do anything that blocks your PC's vents. That shit's gotta breathe. I'd say best you can do is put it away in a desk or something, and run peripherals to it. Peripherals are cheap as fuck, even wireless ones. Now you just have to watch out for the screen/tv.

Check your manual for calibration menus. Also some come with special software that will let you change things up from the PC. You can probably tweak it a bit, but a high quality tweaking usually requires getting your hands on a digital celebrator.

>Also some come with special software that will let you change things up from the PC
It definitely doesn't, it's just a Samsung panel someone stuck to a stand and some speakers.

I'm not trying to do any photo editing or anything important on it where I need perfect colours, it's just for games. I just need it a tiny bit brighter because it loses gamma the higher you push the overclock on it, and it's a bit too dark where it is.
>>
>>62253846
>Wha?

[The model number of your shit] + [What you want to figure out about your shit] + [Google]

This is the formula that solves 90% of the problems on here. So if someone says use a manual to find out about calibration, your next step should be watching your fingers type in "manual" "<dat model number>" "calibration" and "thank you google".

Try this literally every time you want to do something specific to your shit.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm#install

Ideally you'd use software specifically paired with a physical calibrator. If you don't have that you can use whatever came with your GPU or a third party windows calibrator. And if you can't be arced to do that, use the windows calibrator itself.

Can anyone provide me a guide or let me know how to get kmozillahelper working with firefox manually? For anyone unfamiliar, it's what allows you to use a Dolphin window as your file picker in Firefox (pic related).

I've been using Manjaro KDE since it already has this set up with their firefox-kde package. However, if I simply install the plasma desktop, firefox and kmozillahelper on another distro, it doesn't just start working understandably. There has to be some other steps the Manjaro team does to get this working, but I can't figure out how to do it. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

The first one checks the condition before adding. The 2nd one checks the conditon after adding. Either way, you would need to do count++ after your println() in order to get 0 printed, as both of them are adding before your lrintln() is reached.

You might as well go for Arch then. If you want something really reliable, go for Debian Stable. If you need regular updates that actually work, go for Debian Testing. Debian Unstable is for devs who need to check the very latest, literally unstable packages.

Which part? They've given "reasons" for everything, but everything they do still feels like decisions secretly being outsourced to middleschoolers as a class project. The linux thing was because they didn't want to bother supporting an audio package loads of people rely on, and they didn't warn anybody because I guess they thought a surprise would be fun? The addon thing... is complex. They're betting that people don't really care about a lot of the shit addons do, so they'd be willing to part with them for a browser that's easier to maintain. Maybe in the long run that'll be true. But they're sure putting people through a lot of shit this year, and it's real hard to say how well any of this will turn out. A lot of top addons have gone extinct because there's literally no way to do what they did in the new firefox (i.e. Downloadthemall)

What I'm saying that this could cause a huge chunk of their users to abandon ship, to the point that there's not enough resources to support development. All the down stream shit is affected if the upstream goes under. Or people could shrug and get over it. I guess we'll find out why people really use firefox. Waterfox has apparently committed to supporting addons as long as possible, but they don't have the resources to do a hard fork if FF changes too much. For now the easiest thing to do is switch to firefox ESR. It only receives security updates, and doesn't get 57's bs until july.

Not really so much that its better to have a native compiler, it just that it comes with nearly every unix-like system, its free, open-source, tends to be faster. So much less hassle to setup and you have limitless support. With something like visual studio on windows, you have to fork out a good bit and its proprietary.

Is 200$ for an r9 390 a good deal?

Tunderbolt for hard drives is a marketing meme, USB 3 will do just as good while not being stupidly expensive.
If you already have the hard drive, I don't see nothing wrong with being able to run linux off it assuming you can boot from it.
>>
>>62261286
If your hands are on home row and you're typing without looking, that's about as much "touch-typing" as you're gonna get.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding; I'm not sure how one would "hunt-and-peck" without looking at the keyboard. If you mean you have to stop and try to remember where the next key is, then just practice more.

How can i tell how fast a cpu is just by looking at it's raw specs (ghz, cores, threads etc)?
Probably sounds retarded, but sometimes one cpu has more ghz or cores, but is slower than another cpu with less ghz or cores.
Even my 8 core 2 ghz phone cpu is significantly slower than my 1.8 ghz dual core desktop cpu.
is there a formula or something?

Fresh install of Arch with i3. How. In the fuck. Do I get it to stop resetting my DNS servers from OpenDNS... Saints fucking preserve me I've tried like ten different methods and none will work.

>Tunderbolt for hard drives is a marketing meme
So performance is the same?
>assuming you can boot from it
Why would i not be able to boot from it?
>>
>>62261339
Phones use ARM processors while (most) desktop processors are x86. The two are really not comparable.
>>
>>62261361
For mechanical hard drives performance is the same on USB 3 and TB, SSDs do better on TB. As for booting off TB it would depend on laptop model, but USB booting is always supported.

I have a bunch of images in pic related, how do i view them as if it were one image, or stitch them together?
>>
I just had an increwdibly genius idea guys

WHAT IF someone made an "encrypted image viewer"? Something that converts your image (in various formats) into a jumbled bunch of pixels (so if it's opened in another image viewer, it looks like that).

But if you view it through this image viewer, it fixes it and displays the image correctly.

Perfect for sending secret messages or, I know you know it, hentai on your hard drive. No longer necessary to keep it in a "don't go here mom!" hidden folder under a password.

What do you think? Am I the next Zuckerberg?

ffmpeg -ss <start timestamp> -i input.mkv -to <end timestamp> -c copy -map 0 output.mkv
you can also use "-t <length>" instead of "-to ..." if you want
>>
>>62261483
print them out using your printer and then get a roll of tape, and tape them together with the tape.

Anyone has that dont gate girls that x list?

My bios doesn't seem to have any option to change the cpu voltage, of really the voltage of anything.
How can i change my cpu voltage then?

cpu is intel core i5-3570k
no idea what the bios is, but the pc is an hp phoenix (NOT hp envy phoenix)

oh, and these images are enourmous, once stitched together it's roughly 20,000x20,000

no

it's a mandelbulb (a 3d fractal) rendered in mandelbulb3d

So you want an encryption software that only works with images?

Stripped down to known working PSU, 1 ram stick, and even the backup bios, board still doesn't post or even give any error beeps (even when there's no ram installed). Was working just fine yesterday and shut off during use today.

Have yet to try a different ram slot, different ram did not work. I have another CPU I can test with too, but I don't think it's that. Dead mobo?
>>
>>62261589
Exactly. Something that works really fast because it's done specifically for images. It could be a simple pixel scrambler/unscrambler.
>>
>>62261592
Was your "stripped down" test done without a CPU? You don't mention it, but I'm like 90% sure many boards will do jack shit without the CPU.

How did Stallman become so closely associated with Gentoo here when Gentoo isn't even a recommended distro on the GNU site and he doesn't even use it?
>>
>>62261626
Yes the CPU was in.
>>
>>62261642
Stop asking questions.
>>
>>62261610
I guess? I doubt it would be quick-as-lightning to descramble, and if would either have to be it's own image viewer (making the format somewhat proprietary) or else save the picture temporarily and be useless for security outside of a "porn hider"
>>
>>62261644
Test with another CPU to be sure, but otherwise it sounds like a dead mobo.

How difficult would it be to create a simple journal/notetaking program? I'm willing to put in the effort of learning a language for this. Is it a lot more difficult than I think it is?

If by "closely associated" you mean "both /g/ memes" then the answer is that they both are very autistic.
>>
>>62252838

How do I into /g/ ?
No idea where to start understanding technology at all.
