Gross.

Why would anyone who prefers retro thinkpads buy this in the first place when the actual thing is way cheaper?
>>
>>62236765
Consumertards, memesters and hyperactive children that lose their shit when a web page takes an extra second to load.
>>
>>62236765
The real question is why would anyone buy this when they can have apple quality and retina screens.
>>
>>62236765
maybe if someone needs modern hardware and its actually good.

Battery Life
Warranty
Higher Res 16:10/4:3 Screen

Well that's if it maintained the traits enthusiasts enjoy, like the Keyboard, Old trackpoint, old/similar chassis(build quality), serviceability, Linux support, etc

Lenovo would never actually get this right though, and a big part of the reason people like older Thinkpads is because you still get decent hardware on the cheap.

Did anybody screencap it from that thread?

If it has the keyboard the IBM thinkpads have I'm buying.

The only thing stopping me from buying an older ThinkPad is the lack of VM technology, memory, screen and some other small stuff.
But the only thing stopping me from purchasing a modern design one is the shit tier keyboard and the touchpad.

I'm really torn, because I loved them when I had one.
I'm considering just buying the upgrade package from the chinks at 51nb for the X62/T70 at this point, if they're gonna continue making them.

I've used the X62's warranty and it was a better experience than Lenovo.

Why hasn't anyone stuck a small mobo with new hardware in old thinkpads? Monitor not being eDP isn't a good enough excuse when there are thousands od monitor models out there.

What else were you people expecting from a "retro"? People need to get with the times. If you want something old and clunky go with Dell.
>>
>>62240173
Real Thinkpads haven't gotten any thinner in 15 years anon. Brand new ones are just as 'clunky' as ones made before you were born.

Summer's ending soon.
>>
>>62239278
This.

They could even make it 16:9 if they want but they cant fuck with the keyboard, large selection of ports, easy user servicability.

I literally wrote the truth, modern Thinkpads of a given series are no thinner or lighter than old ones, have a shit keyboard, and are built to lesser standards.

Been an Apple user since 1986 as well, you probably weren't even born then. Apple was at that time the hobbyist's computer of choice because it was so nice and expandable.

Too bad Thinkpads fell from grace when the Chinese bought the brand.
>>
>>62240087
That's cute, what do you run on it?

I can afford to buy as many computers as I like anon, I have dozens, many brands.

You're trying to change the topic, you originally claimed old Thinkpads were 'clunky' but this just isn't supported by the facts. New ones are just as thick and heavy as old ones, and they have inferior keyboards.

>>
>>62240985
That's entirely up to what you use virtualization for, though. But for most people, yeah.
>>
>>62241005
If you're doing hard core virtualization you're probably not doing it on a laptop anyway for various reasons.
>>
>>62241015
Of course, but I can see the usage of it. Specifically stuff like HW passthrough for muh gaymen or small businesses that still needs it.

Still a bit dumb to just get a laptop for that, however.
>>
>>62241062
>using HW passthrough for gaymen on a laptop
lol

Point is, get a desktop if you're into all that stuff. You ever even heard of HW passthrough for laptop gaymen? By the time you have it all set up you've paid for a desktop.

The point is, even an ancient T60 supports virtualization in hardware.
>>
>>62236725

New ThinkPad are absolutely no where near as thick as older ones. I own a T420 and a T460. The T460 is half as thick. I agree on your other points though.
>>
>>62240963
The absolute state of market research.

They could have sold a couple thousand of what you describe just to /g/ for $2000 a pop or more. Instead nobody will want a literally already-existing laptop with a rainbow flag.

It's the same reason that chinks buy (((luxury goods))) with a European brand name made in Viet Nam. They don't understand quality since the Cultural Revolution.
>>
Lelnovo quality, folks. Enjoy your Retro Thinkpadâ„¢ built to modern Chinese standards.

>>
>>62238677
I surf all the time from Core 2 shitboxes and even Pentium M systems, it's never really bothered me that much. Maybe there's a site here and there that takes 10 seconds to load but once it's loaded it runs fine.

Now, I could see that being an issue if you have to use a lot of web applications for your typical use case that will probably bog those systems down to a point that it isn't worth it, but even then, higher-end sandy bridge systems with much of the qualities this shit brick will have are more than enough for that kind of stuff too.
>>
>>62241723
Is newer than a t430
>>
>>62240544
I didn't realize debian post-systemd could be configured to run without it.

1. buy generic thinkpad stickers + a green and red marker
2. color in the letters
3. sell on ebay to idiots

Thinkpads died with t420. Now we have a shitty company milking the brand and pandering to hipsters by making subpar non-thinkpads with the label "thinkpad" on it. They aren't even thicc, their keyboards suck, fucking normalfags.

The complete shit old keyboard is the deal breaker, not trackpoint.
You fucking autists ruined one laptop that was looking to be decent.
>>
>>62245433
I never preferred the classic style keyboard over the new curved island style keyboard. They're functionally similar, with the newer keyboard being easier to type on because you have a larger target.
The X1 Carbon, P51/71, and to some extent the T470 are really fucking good.

Any reason why you dont just use Devuan?

Devuan is using Jessie

>>62240691
AutoCAD barely works fine on my workstation with a modern Xeon and Quadro. But that is mainly Autodesk's fault. I don't really think many other 3D CAD programs would be that good on a C2D laptop if you want to meet deadlines.
>>
>>62245526
>They're functionally similar, with the newer keyboard being easier to type on because you have a larger target
no they aren't similar, the shitty fucking keys don't even feel tactile, All I see is waste of space. If larger target meant easier to type we'd have keyboards the size of my dick. Chiclet keyboards will always be shit, fingers going in between the keys, how is that efficient ? Fucking low quality pleb keys, you can just pin point the exact moment thinkpads became a normalfag meme

Non-Lenovo Chinks shoved relatively modern hardware into an X61 chassis. SXGA+ too. I know I'm being a shill but at least it is not a shill for Lenovo.
>>
>>62245681
>fingers going in between the keys
This is more of a problem on the classic style than the island style.
There is also a fair bit of variety between the new keyboards. Some feel terrible and spongy, but some fell distinctly tactile.
Whenever anyone uses my E420, the first thing they are likely to say is along the lines of "this keyboard feels good".
It's a super comfy keyboard.

On the other hand, the keyboards on the **40 series were atrocious, and felt like shitty rubberdomes. They weren't nearly as tactile as the **20 series island keyboards.
>>
>>62245695
oh shit, i it was 1/4th the price I would actually get it for memes alone
>>
>>62245716
>On the other hand, the keyboards on the **40 series were atrocious, and felt like shitty rubberdomes. They weren't nearly as tactile as the **20 series island keyboards.
I would disagree here, keyboard on X240 and T440 was IMO pretty tactile, same with T460
>>
>>62245842
E440, L440, Thinkpad X1, and the first X1 carbons were trash.
As I said, variability.
>>
>>62245827
It is 1/4th that price if you just buy it directly from the chinas instead of a used one from some rando outside.
>>
>>62246071
2 gen old ass i5 ain't worth 2 grand, lol
>>
>>62246204
It's Broadwell. But yeah, you're more paying for the novelty of having decently recent hardware in an X61. They're so much cash because they're made by some nerds in the Chinise ThinkPad community. And, well, chinks will gouge you if they have a chance. Yes, there are chinks that like ThinkPads things as much as people here do, enough to make a custom motherboard for it.
