which cooler master keyboard is good
>>
>>62206065
I know this may be retarded, but, if I get a keyboard with a nordic layout and then switch the keycaps to the UK ones, will just switch in the Windows setting be enought? Or do I have to buy an specific software to do that change?

When can I get the ultimeme 60% low profile short travel keyboard?
>>

Is that keyboard any good? I was thinking about buying it.
>>
>>62206113
Technically, your keyboard is sending keycodes and Windows interprets it to characters in selected layout.
>>
>>62206172
That's why I'm asking, I have an UK ISO x250 and I just switched the keyboard in the settings and such. Just to make sure.

I hope to find out soon.

hi owo

>>62206255

Does this keyboard exist with an ISO layout?
>>
>>62206170
It's really comfortable to type on.
Switches feel nice and the short activation distance allows me to be just a tiny bit faster than on a "normal" keyboard.
The keycaps are not the best quality though. (And since it's not a normal mx clone switch, they will be harder to replace)
Also, the detachable cable is stupid though - you can't replace it because most normal microusb cables won't fit in that tiny opening in the case.
But overall, fot that price, it's good.
>>
>>62206263
ISO is dumb and ugly, learn to use the proper ansiā„¢ layout.
>>
>>62206126
>>62206297
It's a shame the leds are blue color and the switch is also blue. Must be loud af.
>>
>>62206342
quieter than cherry blue, but (obviously) louder than non clicky switches.
>>
>>62206384
Would you care to record a video typing on it? I would like to hear how it sounds.

can someone tell me what's the keyboard in OP's post? it looks really nice
>>

Well, the colour is obviously a personal preference, but I like the shade of it. It looks reserved, "non-gamery".

Should I get this flat meme you guys are talking about right now? Or should I look for something with kailh speed reds or some shit? I have no regard for keycaps and build quality because I'm literally only going to use it for FPS games

Polish. So my language also has a few "strange" letters.

The oOfficial" polish keyboard is also qwertz (with different accents than the german one, obviously), but since back in the 80s-90s it was hard to get anything in that layout, many people just used what was most widely available, which is QWERTY.
Now almost nobody uses the qwertz layout (I don't even know if it's still possible to buy a new keyboard in the polish qwertz layout) and most people prefer qwerty. Apple was probably the last company who tried to sell laptops with the "national" keyboard and didn't understand why everyone opted to order and wait longer for american layout.
My first computer had QWERTZ keyboard, every one after that had QWERTY. Using alt for some letters quickly becomes a habit and that leaves more keys for easily available symbols. Better for programming.

Newly released: Unicomp's Ultra Classic in Pearl White. Been lurking their site for months and now that it's here, I don't think I want it (shipping is $60 to Canada). Buy now and they'll throw in colored ansi keys for lower price. Dunno.

>>62206065
Hello guys, my first post here, so let's hope this goes well ;)

Here it is:

It only cost me 8Ā£ brand new. Why is it good you ask? I shall tell you. Well, first of all: this keyboard is from Logitech, which is undoubtedly the best keyboard manufacturer today. It is a rather common keyboard, yes; but because it is a Logitech, somehow it doesn't feel cheap. It's like the brand itself makes a crappy keyboard turn into a great one. I don't know, Logitech has always made me feel comfortable with cheaper products. The keys are superbly well distributed, and your fingers won't touch the surrounding keys like some other ones I've tried. The keys are also not very soft, nor very hard to press down on. You know, this keyboard makes it just right, so that you can actually take advantage of the impulse that the rebounding keys give you.

This keyboard makes you feel like gravity is actually working WITH you, rather that against you.

Another thing I absolutely love about it, is the space bar. It is just the right size, and not too small or too big like on some other crappy keyboards from other manufacturers. The space bar is the most balanced key in the whole keyboard, it sits right at the center, and you can actually use it without looking at the keyboard. I mean, that's just brilliant design.

It's an USB keyboard. This makes it perfect for use with modern computers, and even laptops and netbooks. No more using that old crappy PS/2 port. We're in 2017, people.

I could be here all day, but in the end, I just wanted to share with you my experience with this marvelous piece of peripheral engineering.

I recommend this keyboard to anyone.
>>
So I already ordered the new usb-c poker 2 and was wondering if anyone knows whether you can solder backlight leds to it like the original poker 2
>>
>>62208858
k120 is pretty sick desu
>>
>>62208858
This thread is for mechanical keyboards rubber dome shill
>>
>>62208856
the click feels and sounded like clicking a mouse basically. I would say just stick with the clears. the clicky switches are cool if youve never used them before but they eventually get annoying. especially if you live with anyone else and want to type at night
>>
what's a good keyboard for mashing out code that isn't too loud
>>
>>62208858
That's pretty much F-91W of the watch thread. Exquisite board.
>>
>>62208835
yeah I have a quickfire blue and it's loud as fuck
>>
>>62208922
anything with linear switches wont be too loud. for even quieter look for a board with mx silent red switches
>>
>>62208939
I have some knockoff browns in my current keyboard and they're mediocre, I'll look into the silent reds
>>
>>62208922
>>62208951
The loudness is caused by plastic hitting plastic. Cherry keyboards suffer from a loud sound regardless unless you put some o-rings or some mythical clips on it.

Just try pressing your browns slowly, tap them, etc, you'll see what I mean. The sound is both from bottoming out and returning.
>>
>>62208630
I thought $60 shipping, which is nearly the cost of the keyboard itself, was a bit fishy. I went to the USPS calculator and typed in the size and weight of this keyboard and to my surprise that's how much it costs to ship it. Made in USA Model M keyboard. Just those words make me want it. Clearly I've fallen for the myth and legend.
>>
who are reds for?
>>
>>62208989
That's why the silent reds are good. They are doubleshot with softer material that dampens this without reducing the travel. o rings and landing pads are total shit and they dont reduce the sound of the key returning to the top.

>>62209105
That's weird. I sent a pair of boots to canada that weighed a ton and it was only 37 dollars.

>>62209219
reds are great. as long as theyre lubed theres nothing wrong with them. linear switches are for anyone that just wants a solid keyboard with no added frills. the keys just go straight down. that's all you need. no need for any tactile feeling for many people. light springs and no extra resistance allows you to touch type with very minimal pressure.
>>
>>62209320
Isn't lubing a meme? It's not like you can dunk the keyboard into the oil and replace keycaps after. Or at least just put a drop into the switch without disassembling each.
>>
>>62209384
The lubing is really for enthusiasts (autists) only. It does help reduce the scratchy ness of the switches and feels nice. The switch stickers also are a nice touch to the feel. It can be skipped but if you are willing to take everything apart why not. It's just really tedious and takes a long time. Every switch must be de soldered and opened. It really only makes sense to do if you're building a board.
>>
Working on narrowing down my options.

>Budget
No more than $150
>Location (continent at least)
Ohio
>Preferred switch type
Reds maybe? Almost thinking of nature whites. I have blue but hate the click and can't tell if it's the weight or just the click that I hate.
>Layout
ANSI
>Form factor
Full size, but I really like the idea of the TK style that CoolerMaster has where it's a TKL size but it has a numpad since that is a necessity for me.
>Backlight
Would be nice. Not necessary I feel. But maybe just a white backlight?
>Previous/current keyboards
Leopold FC750R. Love the feel of the PBT keys, the heft of the board, just how quality it feels, but god I don't like blues.

Currently considering the CM Masterkeys Pro M, either the regular or the RGB version if I can find one on a deal, with reds. I mostly type but also game and I just can't do both well enough with blues. Browns might be fine, too, but I tried a friend's K70 with browns and I hated the feeling of it (might've just been the awful keycaps compared to the Leopold's.)
>>
>>62209173
people who never modded ALPS switches
>>
are browns genuinely bad? moving up from rubberdome and they were recommended (i've only tested razer greens and cherry mx "speed")
>>
>>62209787
Purists think anything that's not buckling spring/heavy/odd is bad.
>>
>>62209787
yes
they feel like linears but more rough, they are barely tactile at all
I only like my gay rainbow corsair board with browns because it sounds decent with the metal panel for some reason

Why are all the Topre switch keycap sets for the HHKB garbage and not a good Topre kb like the Realforce 87U?

Companies can and do manage to ship similar weight/volume for a fraction of what Unicomp charges. It just means they never made any effort to sort out exporting. Business accounts that ship any sort of volume do not pay full price on shipping. It doesn't even have to be that much for a steep discount as long as it's steady. Streamlining your process and figuring out your optimal shipping options reduces costs further. Many countries even have electronic customs filing so you can have taxes calculated ahead of time and handled during checkout so there's no surprise $30 "processing" fee on top of the tax at the receiver's end. Amazon has this shit on lockdown and it's a big part of why they're so successful.

I liked the feel of reds the best. But I guess it's hard to get an actual feel for the switches when you are just mashing on them for a couple seconds
>>
>>62211774
I tried to like Reds, but not knowing whether or not I'm pressing a key disorients me, so much so that I usually go back to my other tactile boards (such as buckling springs or Matias) soon afterwards.

I'll probably try it again in a few days, but I wouldn't recommend a Red board to someone unless they have another keyboard to quickly switch back to.
>>
>>62211857
Blacks are better than reds, the heavier spring weight makes it more obvious whether they're being pressed or not.

I have a white quickfire rapid tk but the non-standard bottom row ruins it for me. Does anyone know if the coolermaster masterkeys m can be transplanted into the qfr?
>>
>>62211290

Personally I wouldn't right off linear switches. The Romer Gs that I use are linear and while they might be a meme they feel very nice to the touch even when typing. Mistake wise I doubt that could be an issue once he gets used to them

Custom builds are so much better, because you can actually clip your Cherry stabilizers and lube them so that they feel 100 times better. >>
>>62210210
Depends. Are you going to work on other people's machines? It will be embarrassing if you will have to look at the keys. Unfortunately, the worldwide baby duck syndrome with "default" typewriter layouts is here to stay.

The most important thing from my switch to Dvorak was learning touch-typing. Other than that, it's more hassle since Windose is wonky with it. Though typing in it is comfy as fuck.

You'll pick up the speed, don't worry.

Just bought a Ducky One TKL RGB with red switches.

Would it be a good idea to put O-Rings on the keyboard or will the doubleshot ABS keycaps dampen the sound enough?

I'm looking for that heavy/deep sound, similar to this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3LUTXO-Tkc

My QFR-i has a very tinny/clicky sound and it feels very hollow to type on, because of the ABS keycaps.

Some monstrosity like a Invyr Gatistotle that uses a 60g spring, Gateron base, Invyr housing, and Aristotle stem. If you really want the most tactility possible, you should just be looking at Alps switches. When I was using a tester, the most tactile MX switch I found was a MOD-M.
>>
> If you really want the most tactility possible, you should just be looking at Alps switches
Not him, but if I understand correctly, Alps have been rebranded under the Matias name.
What is the average opinion on Matias switches and Matias keyboards?
>>
>>62217216
Matias is just a clone, as the original alps patent expired. However, it's the best known clone right now, and a safe choice (even though various other chinkshit is popping up right now). Generally the opinion is:
Complicated alps > matias > simplified alps
Since finding complicated alps is a pain in the ass, matias is the "definitive" alps switch right now.

Matias/alps are much more tactile than MX switches. They're sometimes considered almost on par with buckling springs. Moreover, matias quiet click has built-in silencing on both the upstroke and downstroke, making it much more silent than almost any MX switch (except perhaps silenced reds or something) while only sacrificing a tiny bit of the tactile feeling (so it's still better than any MX switch).

The problem with them is that due to the alps stem, keycaps are much harder to find - in particular, there are no modern PBT keycaps, at all. This means you must either wait until Matias starts producing theirs (supposedly promised sometime next year), or scavenge them off an old alps keyboard (e.g. a vintage apple).
>>
>>62217392
>in particular, there are no modern PBT keycaps, at all

That's not true, there's Granite now if you can handle DSA.

>They're sometimes considered almost on par with buckling springs.
Which is why I was interested in buying a Matias keyboard, but I've read they suffer from QC issues. Is it true or is it just a overblown problem?

>keycaps are much harder to find
Matias keyboards have those Apple-like caps, that come in ABS that doesn't seem to be that great.

>>62217509

>>62217596

>>62217596
yes, but only after you click mod them or take out the tactility leaf

there are much better old alps keyboards out there though, most people use at101w for custom builds since the board itself is decent but not many like the switches on it by default

>>
>>62212833
My budget is only $100, maybe a little bit more if there's a good reason for it, but I'm already hitting that with just the pcb and switches.

I'll keep looking for MOD-M implements or TKL kits. Otherwise I'll just go with Cherry Clears.
>>
Is there any switch heavier than buckling springs?
>>
>>62217838
>I've read they suffer from QC issues.

The simplified Alps design is sensitive to poor installation. If you bend the pins or let one get pushed partway back up into the switch housing before soldering them into place, the switch plates can be misaligned and lead to switch malfunction. Hamhanded chink manufacturers like KBP are more likely to fuck this up and this is why all of their Vboards with Matias are more prone to issues than other Matias or simplified Alps boards.

I'm doing it for the switches, since I see them literally nowhere else, if key chatter is an issue I can transplant

>Are you going to work on other people's machines?
Yeah, I have my own work desktop but I'm always helping out other people at work and showing them my leet skills on my PC. I don't care how I look to other people, but having to look at the keys kinda sucks.

you have to get the rune spell of Thor the thunder god. This can before found on z level -6 in dwarf fortress when you kill the necromancer. Take this spell to Hacker Man and he will then transform you new key layout

Will using an ortholinear at home fuck up my muscle memory when using normie keyboards elsewhere?
>>
I have a Qisan Magicforce (like OP's but default ugly layout.)

Where can I get a better looking keycap set without breaking the bank?

Also it sucks not having function keys, is there some software that makes shortcuts easier?
>>
Checking ebay like I periodically do, I came across this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-Custom-mechanical-keyboard-PCB-84-Keys/272817823126 I love the layout, and would like a second board it says he'll give me the scheme for the board, and none of these posts line up with any of the other cases I've seen... Does anyone have the file for this board? Or even heard of it before?

Yes. Same reason dvorak/colemak are memes you can never actually use in the real world.
>>
>>62226830
>>62226877

no.
use ortholinear split programmers dvorak mechanical keyboard at home.
use standard laptop qwerty at work on the go.
use split qwerty at work desk.

similar speeds on all of them.

>assemble your PC
>only skill needed is being able to stick the right plug in the right hole
>get more bang for your buck
>assemble your own keyboard
>you need to know how to solder
>pay at least three times what you'd pay any commercially available keyboard
Explain this /mkg/!

No.

the market niche for kit keyboards is smaller than your spacebar
>>
>>62227052
No mass produced standardised keyboard parts.

>Hamhanded chink manufacturers like KBP are more likely to fuck this up and this is why all of their Vboards with Matias are more prone to issues than other Matias or simplified Alps boards.
What about Matias actual keyboards? Do their manufacturing line sucks so much or are they fine, other than the shit caps?
>>
>>62227052
You're paying for the customization. The parts are small run (outside of most keyswitches), which runs up the production cost.

You can use a store bought keyboard, but it won't be to your exact specifications. It's the same for most things, small production run = higher price

No thanks.

That would be LEGO.
>>
>>62227176
Matias' own boards are fine. Shame about the glossy cases and ABS caps though.
>>
>>62224083
You might as well, since buying another tactile board is redundant. I've tried other tactile switches such as Blues and Matias and they aren't as good as Buckling Springs anyway.

I see everyone putting the Miami set on their Magicforces.
>>
>>62227176
I have the latest version of their Quiet Pro. Aside from the spacebar getting stuck (which fixed itself after slapping the key), it works just fine.

Your keyboard-fu is weak Daniel-san.

It's a personal preference, I prefer linear switches.
