I really like mine with +10g springs, too bad they only give you enough for half the keys, but extras aren't too expensive on amazon.

They feel pretty much linear without the +10g springs, but with them in they have a nice soft tactile bump.

Technically, anything is an upgrade over rubber domes. If you're European you might want to check out what's available in sites like keyboardco.com, candykeys.com, mykeyboard.eu, and maybe some national online hardware seller: the keyboard itself will cost a little more, but you'll pay less in shipping and won't have to bother with customs, custom fees and VAT.

I suggest to check out the Matias Quiet Pro if you need something with silent tactile switches.

Where can I find ISO layout keyboards? I'm looking to buy a cheap mech keyboard for my brother for his birthday soon and I'd like to get something with an ISO layout, because we live in Europe.

The only cheap keyboards I can find on amazon, chinkshit, are all ANSI layout. Am I SOL or is there some hidden site that indexes ISO layout keyboards?

Define "cheap". If you want something decent prices start from 100€ upwards.

For where to buy, this: >>62229794
>>
>>62230206
I was thinking about one of those chinkboards with knockoff switches that go for like 50 bucks or so.
My brother is a kid, he's never used a mech keyboard except when I've let him try mine. I don't think he would really tell the difference between good switches and chink ones.

>>62230275
What do you mean by knockoff switches?

>>
>>62230275
>chinkboards with knockoff switches that go for like 50 bucks
You won't find those in Europe except, maybe, ebay or Amazon: you either find shitty boards with awful gaymer design with cherry mx switches for €50~100 on amazon, or higher quality boards with cherry mx switches from €100 upwards on specific sites. Non-cherry switched in Europe can be found in only specific keyboards, but the price won't be significantly lower than the rest. In any case check the keyboard company.
>>
>>62230906
Damn, that's what I thought would be the case.
I think I'll just buy one of those Redragon gamer keyboards in ANSI layout and call it a day. My brother would just use it to play games on it so it's not like the different layout would fuck him up too hard.
>>
>>62229770
That would imply that you programmed your keyboard to act as Colemak or Workman or whatever. That's certainly possible, but first of all it requires a programmable keyboard, and second it basically makes it so you can't change layouts again. Not to mention that it would be pretty tedious.

Then there's the fact that you can't carry your keyboard with you 100% of the time. If you find yourself suddenly needing to type something, you could be forced to peck at qwerty. Meanwhile, a usb can be added to your keychain and be always available.

>>
>>62230885
Ok I'm done with mechanical keyboards, every time I try a switch it sucks and then you guys say "oh that switch is shit you should have bought a different one." It seems like every switch sucks which is why you guys have like 10 different keyboards because you can't find a switch that feels good, so you keep buying more and more but you just can't find it.

I might buy one from amazon to try it since I know I can return it, also rubber domes have felt better than any switch I've tried besides buckling springs.

>>
>>62228418
AMIIIGAAAAAAAH!
How patrician. First, there were capacitors replacement services. Now keycaps. New hardware when? How many decades will they survive, I wonder?
>>
>>62230947
Switches are personal preference. For any given switch, you'll find someone that hates it with a passion and someone that loves it to death.
That said for some objective metrics, some switches are better than other. What are you looking for? Tactility? If so, zealios or mod-m are your best bets for cherry-type switches, but you're really better off with matias or buckling springs.

Also keep in mind that good keyboards are expensive, but a lot of cheaper keyboards are "good enough". You'll see people recommending $100 boards because for most people, who are used to keyboards worth $5, that's already very expensive and they might not want to spend more. But that's like buying $50 headphones and then complaining about non-audiophile sound quality. Thankfully, unlike headphones where you can easily spend $1000 or more, for a proper, good keyboard you're probably looking at maybe $300-$500.

>spending more than $15 on an accurate, easy to read watch.
As for the keyboards, K120 is unbeatable.
>>
>>62231001
Just a question, for how long are you using the new keyboards?
Are you trying the new switches for a day or two and giving up?

The first time I used a mech keyboard after using rubberdomes all my life I hated it, lots of unwanted keypresses, the tactility was off, everything felt wrong. But after a few days of using the new keyboard I fell in love with it and now I can't go back. I wouldn't say it's so much of an acquired taste as it is something that needs a bit of adjustment.

Well, when you have tiered garbage that is Cherry & clones which, however, got everything else for them, Alps resurrected but without DIY, keyboards or options and Topre - pressing which is like touting vuvuzelas of homosexuality - you might as well try something new and go with short-travel mechanics.

Cherry ML are hated on for years, Romer G are unreliable (breaks, chatters) - but Kailh switches seem to get some praise.

It's one aspect of keyboards I literally do not care about. I like the ANSI enter layout, but I really miss the ISO extra key (who thought a humongous shift key for no reason would be a good idea), but hunting for ISO layouts is so much of a pain that I am quite fine with settling for ANSI.

Sometimes I feel like I want to buy a meme colourway but they're nearly all ABS, and the very few that aren't seem to be in meme - usually flat - profiles.

Is it so hard to make cherry profile PBT keycaps?
>>
>>62238950
Everybody knows PBT takes on a resonant frequency of 2.45Ghz when molded in cherry profile. They'd vibrate violently and explode the first time anyone operated a microwave nearby. It's just not possible, I'm afraid. Too big of a safety risk.
>>
>>62238999

Hello guys, my first post here, so let's hope this goes well ;)

Here it is:

It only cost me 8£ brand new. Why is it good you ask? I shall tell you.

Well, first of all: this keyboard is from Logitech, which is undoubtedly the best keyboard manufacturer today. It is a rather common keyboard, yes; but because it is a Logitech, somehow it doesn't feel cheap. It's like the brand itself makes a crappy keyboard turn into a great one. I don't know, Logitech has always made me feel comfortable with cheaper products. The keys are superbly well distributed, and your fingers won't touch the surrounding keys like some other ones I've tried. The keys are also not very soft, nor very hard to press down on. You know, this keyboard makes it just right, so that you can actually take advantage of the impulse that the rebounding keys give you.

This keyboard makes you feel like gravity is actually working WITH you, rather that against you.

Another thing I absolutely love about it, is the space bar. It is just the right size, and not too small or too big like on some other crappy keyboards from other manufacturers. The space bar is the most balanced key in the whole keyboard, it sits right at the center, and you can actually use it without looking at the keyboard. I mean, that's just brilliant design. It's an USB keyboard. This makes it perfect for use with modern computers, and even laptops and netbooks. No more using that old crappy PS/2 port. We're in 2017, people. I could be here all day, but in the end, I just wanted to share with you my experience with this marvelous piece of peripheral engineering.

I recommend this keyboard to anyone.

Question; has anyone else had experience with Corsair RMA support? I've had an RMA received on the 22nd of August and that was the last time they contacted me about it also, saying that they no longer actively support my model and will ship me a replacement keyboard because of that.

...Nothing. No messages after that, no update on their tracker to go from processing to shipped, no "sorry we missed you" notes through my door...
Anyone else experienced this kind of shitty service?
And yes, I did contact them to agree that it would be an acceptable exchange and asked them to send it to me -- and then a week later politely asked if there was any status update or information on why/when I would get my new keyboard -- nothing.

>>
>>62251929
Pic related keycaps aren't SA, they're a new profile called MT3. SA is popular because it looks pretty and retro, so it's great for taking pictures of it and getting upboats, but it's way too high profile and very uncomfortable to use. And now because SP are a bunch of retards that won't expand, SA keycaps get shipped to you a year after you've actually bought them, if you're lucky enough not to run into delays, which is what usually happens.
>>
>>62251997

Why is there no good switch?
>>
>>62245608
Is that the ones with Razer not-Brown switches? You might as well find a different keyboard with Browns then; it'll be cheaper and won't look like shit.
>>
>>62254378
Because everybody have a different taste.
>>
>>62245641
HD600 are good headphones though. If anything the tada68 is the HD600 of /mkg/.
>>
>>62251027
I'm of the opinion that starting out you should get a tactile board if it's your first mechanical. Linears are more niche and not as good to type on.
>>
>>62251102
No, because tactile Cherry MX and its clones are basically modified linear switches.

yes
>>
How are chinese keycap knockoffs? I'm looking at some sets and they're quarter the price on aliexpress.

>>62254930
Most boards you don't have to build yourself. There are lots of enthusiasts that have never gone more in-depth than pulling out keycaps and mashing new ones in.
>>
>>62254848
Fucking madcatz
>>
>>62254930
why not get the one in your pic? 980m is similar plus arrow keys.
>>
>>62254952
>>62254958
Then which ones. I'm kinda retarded and all i can find is either the one pictured. or something i gotta build
>>
>>62254933
Yes it is, also I don't want to ruin a Model M
>>
i have one of these am i retarded
>>
>>62254991
Really depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend. Familiarize yourself with the different keyboard sizes (full sized, TKL, 60%) and the different switch types and find one that suits you.

Models Ms are mass produced and cheap. You can regularly find them for 20-40 bucks on ebay. There is so much documentation on them that any almost any kind of mod is possible. If you can build a normal cherry mx keyboard, then you can easily mod an old piece of shit model m

Is it really true that topre boards make little queefing sounds when you press they keys? I guess from air escaping out from under the mat.
I want to get a topre board but not if they constantly make
>pft
>pft
sounds when you type on them.
>>
>>62255369
No, never even heard of that. Topre is incredibly quiet with kbdfans silence rings.
>>
>>62255369
It's more of a "thock" sound. Never heard of it queefing.
>>
>>62255495
don't the silencing rings keep the domes in a partially pressed state runing the domes (faster) and removing some tactility?
>>
>>62255369
This is known on type-s boards but not on stock topre boards
>>
>>62255269
Well this is 4chan, so that isn't surprising.
>>
>>62254848
You should play Neverhood on it
>>
>>62255516
not with kbdfans' ones, they're only .2mm thick.
>>
>>62255837
Oh you mean the 25 dollar ones? I might look into getting them since I still need to buy a pbt spacebar
>>
where do i get a box to ship my keyboard in
>>
>>62255940
from the post office you dumb FUCK
>>
>>62255989
idk man ive never shipped anything before
>>
>>62255537
Is there a video somewhere where I can listen to the topre queef? Is it noticeable on the type S boards because they are otherwise quieter or does it have to do with the lube?
>>
>>62254991
The thing that comes closest to that keyboard is the Leopold FC980M, other than that you'll have to find, which isn't easy, buy, which is stupidly expensive, and build, which requires skill and time, your own 96 keys keyboard.

I was in your same situation: you either get that Cooler Master, or you forget about that form factor.
>>
Cherry Mx red or Gateron yellow?
>>
>>62255926
yeah, its the best aftermarket silencing option.
>>
>>62255016
Ye
>>
>>62256028
search yt for topre sound, it doesn't queef
