I have deep hate for Google and the Botnet, and everytime I own an android phone I feel dirty, then when I flash a custom rom they are usually pajeet infested and I feel like I am holding a house of cards in my hands.
I had a 5s once and it was pretty comfy, so I am debating on getting an iPhone 6S or a Redmi Note 4.
I feel this is more a matter of needing therapy than asking on /spg/, but:
Spend 150€ and feel dirty, disgusted and question my ethics,
or
Pay +350€ for a slab of soap that holds my hands while simultaneously ravaging my pockets?

of the 3, Oxygen > LG UX > Touchwiz

For the s7e with LOS, you can download and use the Google Camera if you get the 820 (https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-updated-zero-shutter-lag-xiaomi/) with the exynos you're sol, though.

G6 has LCD, if you can get past that, it's a solid phone. Between s7e and g6, I'd rather have the g6, but I'm biased, I've had 2 older galaxy phones and after moving away I can't go back to touchwiz.

But it seems some guy on xda made a hal wrapper for the stock camera to work on los.. So maybe there is hope.

How is it meaningless? I work with very sensitive data. Everyone in my line of work (and we are only 540 in the whole country, very specialized law-related stuff) uses an iPhone (fitting in and peer pressue is a non issue to me, don't give a fuck). Government issues iPhones to everyone, police forces that do investigation issue iPhones to everyone. It must mean something, no? (Genuinely asking)

Battery life is always better on MIUI. Less bugs too. Understand that when you flash Lineage you agree that the battery, camera, microphone, and speaker quality will be worse, sometimes significantly so. It depends whether you value the price of freedom and full control over your phone instead of it fully working as intended.

Hello everyone, looking for some advice/opinions.

My brother wants to buy a phone. He made a list of phones he is interested in and the prices they are available at for him. The price range he selected is pretty clear, topping out at 300 euros at the most. He likes the Moto Z (Play) but he wants to know if any of the other ones might be a better (value) purchase.

What do you guys think is the "best buy" here and why? He has no specific requirements beyond it being a "nice, well-made phone" and for it to perform good.

Oh and one thing: not sure if you guys here like it or not, but, no Xiaomi phones are not available.

Some new plan that may seem nice on paper but will somehow screw people over some how over the older plans.

Also probably showcasing the V30 since it will be the first device to support T-Mobile's new 600Mhz Spectrum as well as being the first to release it stateside for no money down.

As someone who used to work for Magenta, their planning for things are a little too predictable at times.

Why can phones still be turned off from a SECURE lock screen? The only option should be emergency call and nothing more.
>>
>>62192343
You should always be able to power off a device, even if locked.

I have my phone set to unlock with my finger print, but if I am ever pulled over I am turning my phone off immediately because courts have ruled a fingerprint isn't a password and police can force you to unlock your device without a warrant.

However with an encrypted device once it turns back on it requires a password be entered before it even starts the boot process into android. And once it's in android it requires a password be entered for the first unlock after a reboot before allowing finger print unlocks again.
>>
>>62192389
That's all very good and all but you're assuming you'd have the chance to pull your phone out and turn it off

Requesting purchasing advice.

Smallish phone. No or low-profile side buttons, dgaf about any physical buttons on the face. Water resistant at a minimum, would prefer IP68. Easily rootable OR ships with AOSP. SD card slot. User-replaceable battery a plus but not mandatory.

I'm coming from a Galaxy S5 Active, which I can't actually root because I can't install the Windows Media Center bullshit on my desktop that's necessary to install the Samshit KIES bullshit.

I've got an HTC One M8 and it's pretty great across the board, but there are a couple of huge problems. When it dips below 15% battery, the trigger for battery saving mode, half the time it just flat out turns off. Not a huge deal, but occasionally it'll reset some random settings when this happens too. Specifically, weird settings like it'll turn on word prediction when typing, vibration feedback when typing, and brightness settings. Worse off, the fucking mic usually doesn't work. Once in a blue moon it'll do it's job, but about 90% of the time the mic just flat out doesn't work when I'm making or receiving a call.

I used to have this problem where the phone just wouldn't know what outlet to use for different applications. Like, it wouldn't know that when I plugged headphones in to send the sound through the 3.5 jack. That was fixed by me buying Sound About Pro. Shitty to have to spend 3$ to fix that, but it works now as long as I'm diligent in monitoring what I'm doing.

Ignoring that, it's an amazing phone and I love it. The battery size is a little small, but totally manageable. If those problems didn't exist, I'd never buy another phone. Because of that, I'm leaning toward buying another HTC to replace it. My budget is >300$, I'm in America, and working with Metro PCS (T Mobile). Any suggestions would be great.

Every time it goes to 30% it then loses 1% every second or just drops instantly to 0, but it still has its battery life but I can't use it with the "Your phone will now shut down" message popping up every 5 seconds. My dad's Xiaomi Mi4 just started doing something similar recently too, it'd just outright shut down and refuse to turn on despite having any healthy amount of battery life and he can't turn it on while I can't use more than 30-50% of my battery.

>>
>>62198333
This is just my opinion, but I see better reasons to get an LG V30 than a note.
As mentioned before, the current best phone (S8+) still beats the note in pretty much everything that isn't subjective.
Price, battery life, the curved gimmick is actually more pronounced on it, the hard to reach fingerprint sensor is easier to reach on the S8.
At least the LG V30 is different enough to warrant a subjective preference.
It's also going to be the first LG with an OLED screen, added to the high quality DAC and build quality (not glass covered like the samsungs),
>>

Nokia 8, or should I hold off until the Pixel 2 gets announced?
>>

Pixel 2, no question.
Nokia 8 has some pretty questionable design choices and the only thing it has going for it is the camera imo.
That screen ratio in an age where everyone is getting rid of bezels.

Because there is nothing but speculation on the Pixel XL 2. Even if it is in any way a variant of the V30 chances are that everything that makes the V30 great is going to get axed aside from the OLED display.

Honestly it would be more hopeful in that maybe the Pixel XL 2 rom will have enough similarities in configuration/drivers that it could be ported to the V30 with little effort. It will be like having a GPS edition V30.
>>
>>62199211
The "speculation" about the design is pretty solid honestly.
It's going to be based on an LG platform unlike the regular pixel which is HTC, hence the difference in bezels.
I agree that, assuming it'll share the V30 platform, it'll discard stuff like the high quality DAC, but other than that it reains to be seen.
If the design leaks are true, and they have been so far from the source they came from, it'll be a pretty phone.

Technically it's just image retention and not true burn-in. It isn't permanent and if you leave your screen off for 12-24 hours it will go away. However if you use your device often, it's going to come back fairly quickly. Apparently the LG V20 has a fairly big issue with it at higher brightness settings.

I preordered mine within 2 hours of preorders being open.

Looking to be a pretty top tier phone. Only real downside is the price, which for many of us isn't particularly an issue.

$290 and you want a good camera? Might try an older Samsung then as I heard those have decent cameras, I guess.

It depends on what you are looking for in a carrier and your location. If you are in Warsaw, Orange is the best shit especially since they run insane promos for mobile internet like their recent 1.4 TB of data for 200 pelens.

You'll need to define what a "good" camera is for you since nowadays it's not all about megapixels and sheeeit.

I am not recommending you buy at Saturn but their page gives you a quick rundown of the prices for some Xiaomi phones https://saturn.pl/telefony-i-smartfony/smartfony.xiaomi
>>
>>62208283
>>62208283

Also, I tend to use Saturn as a sort of demo store as I can take a look at the phone and get a physical feel of the model on display and also check the actual model number for LineageOS support down the line.

Well the redmis dont even have 4k recording or slow mo and other features, no stabilization too. The camera is there just to be there.

I found this one, is a moto g5 plus a good phone? It does seem to have a respectable camera, other specs seem fine too.

I've had an iPhone 4s for forever so I'm due for an upgrade, I was debating on getting an s7 edge, s8, or iPhone 8, what do you guys recommend? I have Verizon, USA, and don't care about price

Otterbox Defender, biggest raised chins on the top and bottom so flat falls keep the curved sides untouched, comes in black, mint green, grey and blue, and magenta

there's only 1 good glass screen protector for the S8 but it cost $40 and requires a UV light, just get a film one

So I just got a new phone after upgrading from my LGG4. I loved the G4's camera app, and the camera app with my new phone is kinda shit. What's a good camera app that's like the G4 camera app with things like white balance, shutter speed, etc etc.
>>

If it's brand new it's covered under the manufacturers warranty, just get it replaced you beta cuck.

I'm planning to finally upgrade from my Moto G2 to a Oneplus 5 after watching a fuckton of reviews, planning to get 128gb/8gb since it doesn't support SD card expansion, I read that 8gb is a meme, anyone with experience on the 1+5?
>>
>>62210442
I've heard that Samsung is kinda stingy when it comes to physical defects/damage, and will often try to blame it on the user and make them pay, even if the user is not at fault, is this true? In my case, there's a weird circle shaped scuff on the top of the screen.

>beta cuck
thanks /pol/
>>
>>62210472
Not in my experience, especially for brand new devices.

Shit shows up damaged all the time, generally due to shipping. Samsung will likely just throw a new panel on it and ship it back out as new, or potentially refurbed.
>>
>>62210617
Alright, that's good to know, thanks. It's pretty frustrating since I just went through this shit just a few months ago after my old LGG4 boot looped, was hoping I wouldn't have to use another crappy loaner phone again.
